  • At White Collar Advice, our mission is to guide individuals facing white-collar criminal charges through the complex sentencing and federal prison processes. We understand that most of the people we serve have had no prior encounters with the law, making it even more crucial to equip them with the knowledge necessary to navigate the challenges after leaving federal prison.
In this live video, I will be sharing my personal experiences and the invaluable lessons I learned during my first year out of federal prison. Having served time in federal prison, I bring a unique perspective to my work, drawing from my mistakes and experiences to educate and empower others.
This video, titled "Navigating Life After Federal Prison: 10 Traps I Fell Into and How to Avoid Them," delves into my mistakes during my first year after prison.
From constantly comparing oneself to others and overlooking small victories to seeking validation from external sources and underestimating the impact of prison time, I will cover many mistakes I encountered. I emphasize the importance of learning from these errors and offer practical advice on navigating challenges after serving time in federal prison.
By sharing these personal stories, I aim to inspire, guide, and support those in similar circumstances.
Whether you're a justice-impacted individual or a loved one seeking to understand the journey of post-prison life better, this video offers valuable insights that can help you make informed decisions and avoid common missteps.
Please subscribe to our channel to stay updated with thought-provoking content, empowering stories, and expert guidance on navigating the complexities of life before, during, and after federal prison.

Absolutely suffered from the same "ailment". Last 3-4 weeks dragged. Letters stopped coming, books got finished and didn't have replacements, all I wanted to get was home. Hope you are well.

Justin, I was at the camp for 9 months. The entire time, I was focused on doing better, and being better. About 3 weeks before my release, I too was walking the track(ours had concrete) my mind started racing about what ifs, that I had a full blown panic attack. I hadn’t had one in years! Luckily 2 good friends saw me take a knee, and talked me through it. You had Andrew and Michael, I had Melvin and Kevin. Please keep this work going!

Justin, thank you for being so authentic and honest about your mistakes, and having a sense of humor about them! As a spouse, I’ve been in my own “prison” with many of the same feelings, shame, anxiety, depression over the loss of many relationships, etc. I’m also getting very anxious about my spouse coming home. He’s in a wheelchair now. He’s going to need some medical equipment and Dr visits and surgery. Im constantly thinking and worrying about getting the house ready, wondering what it be be like to have a probation officer coming over, will they judge me for not having a clean house or much furniture now that everything has been taken away… What kind of work will my spouse be able to do, what will be expected, will I be able to provide enough assistance, will I be able to provide for us, etc etc… Lots of worry to go around. Thank you for making all your videos, they help calm the anxieties, for sure!

I am really touched by your words and admire the strength you are showing during tough times. It is not easy, I know. When I was going through struggle, I used to think, "what is the next right thing to do." When I did it, I made progress. The probation officer coming to the house is nothing, I promise. The key, as you wrote, is ensuring medical issues are met and you are ready for the transition. Watching these videos proves you are willing to learn and do the work. I wish the best to you and your spouse.

I am sitting here crying, just listening to you, Justin. You are so real, and the way you speak into the camera, made me feel as if I was sitting face to face with you as you gave your advice. I am currently living somewhat of a similar experience, but not quite on the side of a felon or prisoner, but on the side of the prison wife. I have gone from the wife of an executive director to now the wife of a convicted felon, who was sent to state prison for an altercation he lived with an officer. A man who has never hurt a fly! Our lives flipped upside down from one day to another. Today my dear husband sits in prison completing a 5 year sentence with 10 years of probation waiting for him once he gets out. I get up each day asking myself, how is this even fair? 15 years?? When you have murderers out there who have gotten less than this. What kills me the most, is what he will face once he gets out. When he can't any longer provide for his family the way he used to do it. If he can't find a job that would allow him to begin feeling he is a provider again. I am a mess each day. I get up each day to be his #1 cheerleader and provide encouragement from where I don't have it on someday. I end up so empty, stressed, and feeling left without any energy once I hang up that phone. Thank you for doing what you do. We need more men like you giving back to the men and women who come back home to broken dreams, home, and feeling lost. Thank you!

Hi Justin when I was close to release I was afraid to not get in trouble, I wasn’t at the camp I was behind the fence and wire, and you never share your release date because someone would try and cause trouble so you get sent to the SHU and so you wouldn’t get released…🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

The other part that stunk was I had to do 6 months at the halfway house in Boston, then after that ankle bracelet for 6 months more. I just did 2 years then having to do that when I got out was hard, because if you went to the halfway house after your time I think they were tougher than some of the guards in prison.

I am not connected to prison in any way. However, as a devout Catholic and a Perpetual Promised Lay Dominican, I have a great desire to pray for folks in prison, and I do. I have been praying for Elizabeth Holmes. I think I read she went to Catholic Schools as a young person. I am wondering, if One ever wanted to send a Rosary to her (or to other prisoners), maybe a beautiful Holy card, etc., for her to have, can a person do that? I even thought maybe sending something anonymously through the staff. Could you explain how all that would work? If she is Catholic, is there Mass and Confession available to her? ---Your advice is in general, good advice for all, to apply to One's own situation! I truly like your videos and the wisdom you share. God bless you and your family! +JMJ+

I am so sorry Wake Forest did this to you. I live about 2 hours from this university. You are so much better than Wake Forest and this man that said that about you. I hope today he is ashamed of himself.

Don’t be sorry. It’s a wonderful learning lesson. And for clarity, Wake Forest didn’t do it to me. Another university coordinated and organize the event for Wake Forest. And I let it happen, so it’s my fault. I knew. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Wake Forest.
