- Nobody told me about this parallel universe...
This is a clip from my playthrough of an older mod made by MelonSpeedruns. I'm a big fan of the castle layout, but I wish it had some custom music. - Игры
really makes you appreciate the textures of both mario 64 and oot, how color choices and brush techniques did so much of the storytelling since the overworld geometry was so limited. amazing job
Very true, such a different vibe with the Zelda64 textures.
The texture memory was severely limited too. Each pixel did a whole lot of work.
Brush techniques?
How everything drawn/(brushed), for example, look at walls of hills and mountains, and all the "brushing" they had to do to give everything texture. @just-mees
almost like two different artstyles present different purposes to how the player connects with the world 😮😮😮😮😮
I'm nearly in tears because a scenario almost identical to this is something my five-year-old mind came up with a quarter of a century ago and now it's a reality, a beautiful modded reality.
Its awesome the power of mods to create the things we only dreamed of as kids
I haven't evolved mentally
I know how you feel. The resident evil 7 dlc where it's basically an escape room and you have to leave everything as it was or get hurt is the same exact idea I have as a child and was blown away I got to play something like that
you did it. your daydream as a kid and that of many others hacked into the future and fueled the desire for this mod
Yeah when I first played OOT for the first time in high school, it immediately made me think, "damn, I want to make a game that's OOT with a little bit more platforming." Then I thought, oh wait, that's basically Kingdom Hearts lol.
I was expecting something like just slapping Link into the Mario 64 map but actually recreating the layout of Bob-Omb Battlefield with Ocarina of Time's camera system, textures and models is much more impressive. And I like the way that it adds unique Zelda game mechanics like having to blow up rocks with bombs to make it through. It actually feels like a level that could plausibly exist in Ocarina of Time that feels well designed and playable rather than just superimposing one game on top of another.
You didn't see how different it looked in the thumbnail?
@@user-vi4xy1jw7eover the years I've been conditioned not to trust thumbnails
It's an oot rom hack
I would have first tried backflipping through the painting!
An entire OoT style Mario 64 rom hack, with having to go to each place looking for upgrades, would legit be the best crossover hack lol
Totally. I doubt (comparatively speaking to making a full mod) that it would be super hard to make that a reality with the amount of tools at their disposal these days
Kaze already made a Mario in OOT hack a while back, if you didn't know.
@@Lulink013 Difference is, SM64 is clearly the base of that.
@@bradyonetvAdding MM mechanics might be fun. Especially like the Zora Mask for Jolly Roger Bay or Goron Mask for Lethal Lava Land.
Incredible!
omg kyle Hull
Hi, Science Thor!
Oh! I see the scientist is here.
my god, its the King Nerd.
you know, im something of a scientist myself ;)
The fact that OOT was made from the SM64 engine and only to return back to SM64 is poetic here.
L is real 2401 moment
@@Josuh >Literally is 2401 in the calander too.
Shit
Not just that, but the earliest versions of OOT were using paintings to teleport to different locations from within Hyrule Castle. And the old Hyrule Castle dungeon got repurposed as the Forest Temple later in development, retaining the focus on paintings throughout. So even more poetic, it is a return to form both from origins of the engine and from the earliest iterations of the game's development.
It looks like they based the DS port of SM64 on the OOT engine too, considering the similarities in animations and physics, like how tight the controls are, recoil when punching walls, having to face a ledge to grab it, etc.
Was it tho? I mean… SM64 ram at 30fps, while OoC actually rendered like, what…. 24fps? Maybe lower.
So the game should run the same, but it doesn’t.
This feels like something that should have been done years ago, why am I just seeing it now? Why didn't I think of it before? Glad it's here now, in any case.
Zelda inside of Mario was done before. They ported the whole game!
This feels so natural. So pleasing and natural.
Just hearing Link's grunts makes me want to play OoT now.
Yeaaah ur a dirty girl ain't ya 😈
ZFG can help you get your fix.
@@baltakatei He said play Oot, not watch someone else play Oot
HUT HYAA KYAAH
The grunts of adventure!
There's something really cute and nice about Zelda's lullaby playing inside of the mushroom castle
I thought the same thing
This whole thing is incredibly well done. There are a bunch of small details in here, like the ground using OOT textures, and using the hookshot poles to go between islands. Going up the mountain also sounds exactly like going up Death Mountain trail.
And replacing red coins with silver rubies.
I've seen so many Zelda speedruns that seeing Link moving normally in this mod was surreal.
This mod is cool because the original concept for Ocarina of Time was going to play out like Super Mario 64 where Link goes to Gannon's Castle and enter paintings that warps him to different parts of Hyrule. The idea later got scrapped when Miyamoto found out that he can create a vast open field with connecting area's with the Nintendo 64 hardware.
That, and both Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64 were developed on the same engine.
But the idea stayed in Ganon's Castle anyway, in a reduced size
@@MsAmber82 Yes. Ganon's Castle became the final location and the warping through painting became Phantom Ganon's boss fight
@@marissawolff8491 Thats true. Both Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time used the same engine, but Mario 64 used half of the N64 cartridge size, while Ocarina of Time used the full N64 cartridge
Bullshit, that's the dumbest story I've heard of this year
really makes you realise just how brilliant the sm64 level design was
Absolutely, especially when you consider how rushed they were. Most of the development time was spent on figuring out Mario's movement and the camera, leaving very little time for level design.
@@robertoceferino1456 And without any other games as a blueprint to copy or get inspiration from. I am not even such a huge sm64-fan here but it's undeniable what an impressive task they fulfilled when this came out.
@@Danbu1988 Yeah they created the blueprint for almost all games today. What SM64 did for gaming was like the Beatles did for popular music.
Lord, have mercy. I wish OoT had a sprint button....
Me too lol
This is why epona exist bro
Or the functional Bunny Ears from Majoras mask
I like how it's not Bom-omb Battle ripped straight from Mario 64 but the level constructed with OoT trees and ground.
I love how this isn't just trying to be a one for one remake, it is actually adjusting the maps and challenges to be more compatible with Link's abilities and movement. I'm not sure it would be possible to do everything from Mario 64 this way, but I would love to see someone attempt to expand this out and bring over as much as possible. Probably would work better if Majora's Mask was used, since the Zora mask would be the only way to really do the water levels right.
Back when I was playing OOT for the first time, I was thinking how the graphics looked better than most n64 games, but after years of playing games in that console, I forgot why I thought that. Now, seeing this footage, I remembered why: mario64's grass is just a green blur, but OOT's has more detail and some yellow patches. Plus the trees are 3d on OOT.
Yeah, the trees got an upgrade. But not the leaves. Those are still blurry 2D sprites.
Or would it be the branches that are the 2D sprites, since most OoT trees just have branches and no leaves because the trees are just dead apparently?
Now I want to play this. This looks fun.
Its definitely worth a shot, a 100% play through is probably only like a half hour
This is surreal
crazy that something like this exists
Fun fact, the initial concept for Ocarina of Time was for it to take place in Ganon's palace and use painting to travel to other locations as inspired by Super Mario 64. Remnants of this idea can be seen in the Phantom Ganon boss fight.
The levels of nostalgia are through the roof! And I have only played the 3ds remake of OoT and Ds remake of SM64. So nicely done!
This really feels like a Mandela effect that just manifested itself into reality.
since I saw the spiders guarding the doors, I can absolutely imagine the skulltula tokens being the power stars of the game. would make for a clever collectable required for progression.
This is really cool when you consider that Ocarina of Time originally supposed to have the same level progression of Mario 64 with Link jumping into paintings of different areas. Now I definitely prefer the more open-ended world we got from OoT, but this is a nice look into what could've been if they had went with that original level-based design.
I love how this makes me feel so nostalgic for both games at once
Of all the beautiful perfect things in this clip I don’t know why the phrase ‘sign of our gratitude’ stands out to me. It’s perfect OoT
OoT really was something special
Super Mario 64 + the legend of Zelda = Super Zelda 64!?!
haha true The Legend of Mario
N64 memories? Is that you!?
BradyONE: "It's just me."
my dementia brain is gonna have a hard time believing this wasnt real in my childhood
Player to Modder:
Player: How much can you Mod OoT?
Modder: Yes.
This is cool as hell, but it makes me so glad Miyamoto didn't stick with his hub world painting idea for Zelda, the sprawling landscape of Hyrule really helps OOT feel like a living world.
Agreed
It's a great idea, but yeah, I think it worked better for Mario than it would have for a Zelda.
Good stuff!
Now we need mario, in dekutree 👀
Ngl brady you inspire me to make videos related to nostalgic content, your videos are light hearted and fun to watch.
Keep it up bro!
Mario has been to Deku Tree! It's called super Mario 64 Ocarina of time I covered it a few months ago. GREAT romhack!
Thank you i appreciate it 😁
@@SoulsMidknight
Ooo! I should play that!
@@marissawolff8491 DEW IT it's loads of fun
Well it looks like Trevor from back in 4th grade wasn't full of shit after all, you really can do this in ocarina of time!
this is so cool ♥
This almost feels like something Nintendo would've actually done (also this reminded me of Hercules 64 for better or worse)
((ALSO deku scrub boss fight is cool, feels like fighting the ones in Majora's Mask cutscenes))
i'd dead ass play super ocarina 64.
That lakitu skip was clean, never seen that movement before. Mario take notes.
This is so awesome, I would play an entire OOT remake of SM64
Me too! That would be sick
It really does capture the energy of both games. 😮
They should place dodongo at chain chomp place should cool
It definitely feels like Zelda oot.
12 year old me: "what if link was in super mario 64?"
the internet: "i gotchu bro."
I love this! I was born in 2002 but I grew up with the N64 game cube era! I love this so much! OOT was the first game I ever played! Using them for a Mario 64 mod is so incredible! Thank you!! ❤❤❤
My smile couldn't get any bigger! This was awesome!
This is bordering on a shitpost, but the quality and thoroughness of recreating and/or retexturing Bob-Omb Battlefield in the Zelda art style is astounding.
Ah I spent years of my youth playing OOT trying to find everthing. Seeing this, hearing every noise again from the grunts, the hits, the little jingles, and the music ah the music. I didn't know you could cry out of pure nastolgia.
So glad I could bring back some nostalgic vibes. And thank you so much for the superchat too, its my first ever ❤
Ya know, I was half expecting the treasure chest at the end to have simply five rupees or a potion refill or something 😂, one of the typical Zelda trolling rewards
Mario goes to Hyrule Field
This made me so happy and so very very uncomfortable at the authenticity of this. Like I wandered into another reality.
I wish this Mod got completed
Seriously, me too
You should do more of this.
This is so trippy on my brains, it's like I've seen these maps before, and I have, but I haven't at the same time.
😂 O god, that would be so much fun. Mario N64 was my first N64 title, directly before Ocarina of Time. It's beautiful. 😄👍
I would definitely give this a try as a full size ROM hack. It looks pretty
This is pretty ironic considering that OOT runs off a modified Version of SM64s engine.
Sadly, there's no way to beat Koopa the Quick. He'll always be one second faster.
Did you really have to roll every 2 seconds?
If it was a speedrun, I get it. but sheesh.
This is honestly really cool. I had no idea that Super Mario 64 and OOT shared the same engine. Looks amazing! ❤
my brain couldn't process what was happening in this video
goddamnit ZFG what have you clipped into now?!
This is absolutely beautiful. As someone who played and loved both of these games, I can say you did an exceptional job. ❤️
This would be perfect, if only Bob-omb Battlefield was playing in the background in the Ocarina of Time soundfont
This. That's what immedately started playing in my head.
Time traveler: *kicks a rock*
The timeline:
Are people unable to simply walk with link? That constant rolling is so annoying.
I find your lack of Bob-ombs disturbing.
Nice video, but all that tumbling is annoying AF
Very cool mod
This is messing with my brain so much. It's mario 64 but it's not 😵💫
Nahhhhhh bro this is just amazing. This must’ve been a sh ton of work
This is just... Extremely well done
Turned off this video after the 3 consecutive roll for no reason...
This is awesome and weirdly mind melting. I loved the part when the boss took damage and shot everywhere except where Link was.
haha he had misplaced anger
It's annoying enough that someone constantly rolls while playing. Didn't think it could get more annoying by rolling with a slightly larger gap between rolls.
lmao
ah yes, just like i remember. sweet nostalgia
The legend of zelda: Super mario 64
Now this, is epic.
Someone needs to finish this mod and make it a complete game. Also you're 3 away from 1k dude!!!
More like Deku Scrub Battlefield lol awesome custom boss
Meanwhile Mario tires to climb the deku tree 😂😂
The Big Question before: _"Can it run Doom?"_
The Big Question now: *_"Can it run Bob-omb Battlefield?"_*
Lol pretty soon we will get sm64 on a calculator videos too
One day someone will create a mod where you can play any 64 game as any character from any other 64 game!
Love the Goron City map 😂😂
This would be awesome as a full mod. If it exists let me know.
(Edit) read the description after commenting. Downloading now.
Enjoy!
Somersaults everywhere may be faster, but it's really fucking annoying. People actually play this way????
gotta go fast. For real though most old movement based games are that way. I mean sm64 he goes wahoo every time you jump or long jump, but its still the quickest way to get around 🤷.
This is difficult to watch with the constant rolling.
Now I want to see Mario running around Hyrule field, hah
0:00: hey that kinda reminds me of mario 64
0:14: oh
0:45 Who let the chomp out ?
This is pretty cool.
Dear Cake, please come to the baked. I have toadstool a peach for you. Yours Mario, Princess Truly. Castle.
i hate this so much
Hey, you got the lakitu skip, that's a good start
Someone should do The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of TIme but with Mario 64 LOL
Someone actually has, but with the full game. There is an entire sm64 x oot game made by Kaze: ruclips.net/video/7-OHAf7jBGY/видео.htmlsi=WyOC3yqw2kbWi4Cn
Silver rupees instead of red coins is a nice touch
L was real on 2401 (1st month of 2024), just the other L
I've seen this in the tunnels of my mind. Good to see I don't have dementia yet lol.
I think I already saw this as a fever dream when I was 8.
lol I wanted to see the Koopa-the-quick race except with that guy who runs around Hyrule field.
That would be so good lmao
You really don't have to roll the whole time.
Missed opportunity by calling Link "green guy" instead of Luigi :P
Haha truee
Oh no.
Where is this supposed to fit on the timeline?
