- Town Ogulin lies on the meeting point of three Croatian regions: Lika, Gorski Kotar and Kordun. It was founded at the beginning of the 16th century as a stronghold against Ottoman Turks. The stronghold (still standing in Ogulin) was built right on the canyon of river Dobra, on the point where Dobra plunges underground and forms a huge chasm in the very center of the town. There is a legend about this chasm (called Đula's Abyss) - a girl named Đula threw herself in the chasm because of unhappy love and on the side of a cliff (in the rock formation - 18:23) you can see a profile of her lover, captain Milan, still looking for her. This magical mountainous region full of history, natural beauty and local myths and legends inspired one of the most famous Croatian female writers, Ivana Brlić Mažuranić (born in Ogulin in 1874), to write her stories and fairy tales based on local folklore and Slavic mythology. If you find yourself nearby it is definitely worth your while to visit Ogulin.

All the towns in Crocia have their special charm, you can breathe a lot of peace and tranquility. I wish so much to live there.
They do, true. But Croatian countryside is something else. It's also beautiful and tranquil and the landscape varies from region to region.
Ogulin is one of my favorite day trip destinations! Thanks for the video😃😃
I searched this location in particular because it is where my Family name comes from, from my Great Grandfather Kasunic. I don't know if this is exactly where he came from but it is nice and tranquil there it seems.
