You also saw Rick James in Eddie Murphys "Party All The Time",he helped produce it for Eddie as well as backup sing on it. I remember when he walked up to *receive* an award (not too far back in time),of course he ended on a loud: "Im Rick James,BI***!",then you saw all the celebrities in the audience break down in complete laugh attacks. That dude was a TRIP!
Super Freak was sampled by M.C. Hammer in the song "Can't Touch This". More Rick James? Try "Mary Jane", "Bustin' Out", ands "Fire and Desire" with Teena Marie. Btw, Teena Marie will blow you away!!."Deja Vu" is my favorite by her. Other gems from her are "Square Biz" and "Portuguese Love". As for The Temptations, anything they sang was gold. "My Girl", "I Wish It Would Rain", "The Way You Do the Things You Do", "Ball of Confusion", and a big favorite, "PAPPA WAS A ROLLING STONE". Great reaction! Rick James and the Temptations have a video and song together call "Standing on the Top" which is pretty cool. The bass singer from the Temptations Melvin Franklin was Rick Jame's uncle and they all were at Motown Records.

Rick produced the Temptations song Standing On The Top..Rick was friends with legendary 60s musicians Neil Young and Joni Mitchell after fleeing to Toronto. In 1964 to avoid going to Vietnam.
I like the fact that you do not edit out the times when either of the two have to tend to Renni. It shows your human/everyday side. IMO it makes you folks even more relatable.

"Super Freak" was a giant hit for Rick It-seemed that year I couldn't get away from it!! Every radio station, nightclub, car and home stereo was blastin' it. Best Temptations songs are the funkier ones from their late 60's stuff-- "Cloud Nine" or "Psychedelic Shack".
The Temptations were not actually in this. They sampled them from a concert.

The Temptations and The Four Tops are groups you definately need to sample. How good were they...close your eyes, point at a song on a list of their songs, and younger a winner...every time! James&Bobby Purify have a song called, I'M YOUR PUPPET that we're crazy about also.

Back in the daze, the early 90's, after folks had already been dancing for three and a half hours at a Grateful Dead concert, my buddies would pull out their portable PA system, The Trunk Of Funk, and play disco and funk until the cops would close us down. The first song on was always Superfreak by Rick James. It brought in the girls like no other song, except maybe Brickhouse by The Commodores. Then: Car Wash, Funkytown, What A Man, Sex Machine, Night Fever, etc... .
Room 714 I’ll be waiting… is a nod to the Quaalude, a “downer” pill that was very popular.
