    I was watching some of your older videos and came across this review. I have had this meter for over a decade. When I went back to night school at my local Vo-Tech to get certified in electronics They gave me this meter along with some other hand tools as part of the graduation package. It sits on a shelf now, but I used to keep it as my extra meter in my tool bag. It has survived temperature extremes and has been dropped a couple of times and still survives just fine. So you are right it is a tank.

    Hi. Great video 😅 I have one real Mastech 830 without backlight that I bought on 2008 and it rules 😅 it was tested by an electrician friend and compared with a Fluke type. He said that the error was minimal and it was very good for the value 7.5€ 😅

    Good review, kind of sad though, with that build quality it should be a better meter. The Mastech that Harbor Freight sells under their Centech brand is the favorite meter of a friend of mine.

    Why are current sensing resistors inferior to current shunts?

    • @KeepOnTesting

      Not inferior but not as robust when there's alot of current flowing.. I'll take a nice big shunt anyday.

      RICHMETERS RM406B ruclips.net/video/9nIhdrv2ylA/видео.html is a personal favorite of mine in the CHEAP-O Realm..its faster ranging than my 400$ SANWA and can do everything you can imagine. @@KeepOnTesting Surprisingly, it is out of stock on many e-commerce sites now. But you can check out its specifications and reviews. My biggest concern is that which one is the original manufacturer of this model MAS830L? I've read some reviews that mention Mextech is good in quality and Mastech is a cheap Chinese copy of Mextech. I'm confused. The Mextech one is of high quality, I had ordered it previously from amazon.in for ₹550, but had to return it because I didn't liked it, it had a major design flaw and it is same for the Mastech which is the battery needs to be installed by removing the whole back plate which is very difficult as it has those two locks inside on the top which get tricky most of the time. After installing the battery it would not close properly even after proper locking and the two screws in the middle on each side would keep on rotating no matter how much you keep them tightening, and sometimes they get tightened up but still there was loose fitting of the front and back, which was the similar issue I had read many user reviews from customers on amazon.in complaining. And for a person like me it would be very inconvenient to remove, reinstall the 9v battery everytime I need to use it. First time they had sent me the probes were missing, design flaw was persistent on second time delivered product as well which was a replacement product, but this led me to return it. If you get hands on with this Mextech do make a review comparing it with Mastech. I am thinking of directly asking the company Mextech as well as Mastech separately via email which one is authentic.
      You can check out this on amazon.in with this link but it is currently out of stock. It was in stock when I had checked day before yesterday for ₹810. www.amazon.in/dp/B01BHML9M2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_udNaFbFK1Y5RV

    Somewhat a disappointment this Mastech meter. A shame, because Mastech does put out some decent meters, etc. Thanks for the review of it. I usually like the manual ranging meters, many of that type seem to have a faster response time.

    • @KeepOnTesting

    How could the solder blob increase the resistance of the shunt? Current will flow through the shunt anyways, external additions don't really change anything. The only way to change the resistance would be to change the cross sectional area of the shunt, and that is done by crimping/pinching it to make a part of it thinner and thus calibrate it.

    So many clones of this style meters are junk, but I had higher expectations for this mastech rendition, the build quality was very credible for the price range, but good build quality is sadly wasted here due to lackluster performance - this mastech didnt really live up to its pedigree. Usually a mastech is a good affordable choice in most cases, but this wasnt one. There are many much better choices in this price range from the likes of UNI-T and a host of others..

    • @KeepOnTesting
      @KeepOnTesting  4 года назад

      Roger that...great build aside its performance kept me scratching my head..its really a shame the OEM was spot on accurate and the Mastech just couldn't match its accuracy. That continuity was terrible on both units, definitely an engineering design that needs improvement.

      Frankly ive never looked even twice at one of these since the only one I bought was so bad, I also have an old no brand XL830L and the range switch arms broke one after the other, they were made of just plain case material and after a few months or so they started falling apart. I still have it, sadly the electrics still work fine but the range switch now feels like a volume knob-lol I dont know what keeps me from throwing it away. I do wish other meters had the jacks this one did though, what a waste of a good build effort.
