Don't forget to put at least 2 coats on the inside to protect from rust. In about 3 years, dump it out, give it a light sand & clean. Then give it two more coats.
    Great idea!

I love all of these projects. Unfortunately I can't do most of them because I live in a rented apartment. Although I did make a headboard out of 2 newel posts split lengthwise and some boards for the horizontals - worked quite well!

For the planter: it is mostly filled with dropped leaves. Won’t it sink as the leaves decompose? Wouldn’t it be better to fill with aluminum cans or something similar?

    • @lexyh2o

As a general rule to filling planters with items that will decompose and that microbes and worms will want to eat and make the soil richer

How is the filing cabinet planter in hot summers ? We get temps of 100 on up and I would love to do my elephant ears in them, I can get compost/dirt fairly cheap from our city recycling but worry about the heat factor of the metal. Do you think it'd be okay as long as i monitor the watering ? Love this, also looking at it for my 8 foot white bird of paradise. Thanks for any help you can give me !! I am now obsessed ! ❤😁

You can line the insides with polystyrene.

Paint it white so it reflects heat and Sun. Here in South Florida newbes seem to love black planters and mulch, until their plants get cooked. White…

Hi, I’m just in love with all these ideas. I did have 1 question. What was used in the project with the white wood and then the individual family pictures added? Was that wood, or picture frames?

For that first project, figure out something to do with the cabinet drawers to prevent wasting them for scrap. Avoid scrapping unless absolutely necessary. Perhaps use them in a closet for shoe storage or in a garage for tool storage or in a pantry.

Apartment living doesn’t allow storage of drawers…nothing wrong with scrapping metal.

Do not follow this example for one you need to sand it with at least a red scratcher pad to spray paint with rust oleum. It will turn out so much better you will not have a texture and it will look great.

Wait for the rusting to start, So Silly Just build a planter box out of 2x12's , 4 x4" 6x6s or about any thick wood and some long deck screws . But if you want to paint and rust away an destroy old filing cabinets do this instead

Terrible paint job on the black filing cabinet.
And if you decide you need that peat moss, you're really gonna dig through all that dirt and leaves to retrieve the bags???

That file cabinet is hideous and the others, you’re painting and cleaning doors, how is that a DIY that you need to post a video for?? Why would you want a door for a table? This channel is really getting ridiculous. I stopped after 10 minutes. Way too long!! 😂
