Automated Client Reporting (What You Should & Shouldn't Automate)

- With all of the reporting platforms out there, it's becoming much easier to automate a lot of the tedious aspects of client reporting.
We like to automate the layout of the report and data pulling but we always encourage the agencies that we work with to have someone write insights into the report for their clients. That is one piece of the reporting process that we don't automate.
When we send a report out to a client, our goal is to make it clear what happened, why we think it happened, how it relates to the work we are doing, and ultimately what is the path forward.
We look at reporting as a revenue-generating activity where you have the opportunity to expand your scope based on data (which makes scope conversations much more productive).

hello John, what do you use as data sources?
Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and all of the ad platforms are the most common.
I also do a lot with connecting some custom google sheets as well.
@@johnreinesch Thank you! for SEO reporting you use only google analytics, gsc and google sheets? or do you also third party connectors like ahrefs etc?
@@KonstantinosSioutos Yes for SEO we use ahrefs and semrush data sources quite a bit. We are spending a lot of resources on building our own custom dimensions and metrics using all of the various data sources. I should have some cool stuff to show pretty soon. Which data sources do you normally use?
@@johnreinesch i work on the basic package of ahrefs so i dont have the looker studio option. So i use gsa, ga & then screeshots from ahrefs :P
@@KonstantinosSioutos Nice that can still get the job done. You can do a lot with just GA ands GSC.
