I have never seen thought or been taught to use the ground as a rip-cord for stripping back romex sheathing. That’s awesome - thanks for sharing!
Your welcome
Excellent video. Everything I thought I would have a question on, you answered in your video. Please keep making wonderful videos like this.
Thanks, will do! And thanks for supporting my channel.
@@channelron3593 I searched all throughout RUclips and all I could find we're videos that did not feel comprehensive. They were all over the place. Yours was thorough and you covered all the details and aspect. I will say it again. Great job. Thank you again for your help because I was able to complete my project. TTN
Thank you for the video. I was looking for some clarification on the installation instructions on how to wire and you provided it.
Your welcome!
@@channelron3593 Is it possible for a smoke alarm to be hardwired yet not be interconnected?
I'm thinking about installing wired smoke detectors at my house soon!
Don't think about it do it! even if you have to put up batteries ones until you get the wired ones in, stay safe and thanks for watching (:
Very well done... thank you
oof that popcorn ceiling
I took the backup battery out of my hard-wired smoke alarm because it started to chirp once every minute or so and wouldn't stop, and I didn't have a fresh battery to replace it with. Yet it's STILL doing it, without a battery even in it!
It will for a bit, the capacitor that is inside the unit acts a battery to remind you to get a new battery (: this is a good thing, Thanks for watching and replace that battery (:
@@channelron3593 - I found an old 9 volt battery I had laying around and stuck that one in. Problem solved. Wasn't easy with an 11-foot ceiling and average size ladder.
So a hard-wired smoke alarm does apparently chirp not just when the backup battery is dead or weak but also when there's no backup battery installed at all.
A lot of the new alarms start chirping permanently after 7-10 yrs and need to be replaced. They have a built in timer to fail after said period.
@@tomc8617 I may be three years late on this but if you hold down the test button on the alarm, that will drain out any excess charge left in the alarm.
Great vid... the only thing I saw was that if you ever change your ceiling light into a ceiling fan the smoke detector will be too close to it... just something to think about when locating your smoke detector
@4:05 GREAT HACK!
Great video, thanks! How about a hole saw for cutting the hole (not going crazy with it, of course).
I know it's pretty off topic but do anybody know a good place to stream new tv shows online?
@Killian Solomon I use FlixZone. You can find it on google :)

I would have made a 2nd trip into the attic. I would never push a wire down into a LIVE BOX until the power is off.
Safety first that is right. Thanks for watching.
Hopefully not a dumb question. I'm going from old detectors that were wired up to a central alarm system to new hard wired detectors. Would I run 14/2 from the panel to the first detector and then 14/3 from the first detector to the rest of the other detectors?
Yes, make sure that they are all on the same line, here is some more infor to help. www.ecmag.com/section/codes-standards/installing-smoke-detectors-alarms#:~:text=NFPA%2072%2C%20the%20National%20Fire,previously%20wired%20for%20smoke%20detection).&text=Smoke%20alarm%20manufacturers%20require%20all,from%20the%20same%20branch%20circuit.
Thank you sir.
Ron, I have a 2fam and want to install smoke/co combo do they need a dedicated run to the panel and do they need to be interconnected? Thanks
I would run power from the master bedroom and yes run 3 conductor wire between smokes
Thanks Ron, my question is, don't you need to secure the new 14-3 run?
Yes, you do, if you have the room to do so, in new construction it would be a bit easy to do but rework is sometimes a bit harder do,
Not usually when you use an old workbox
Hello. Thanks for the video. What kind of cable should I be running from the breaker panel to the smoke detector? I'm installing three smoke detectors. Thanks
14-2
just what I needed! Thanks!
Your welcome, Stay safe (:
A great help, as always.
Thanks!
Well done….subbed
mine has a plug and i plugged it in and it's red. didn't see any prongs where i plugged it in. wish u would of shown the bottom of the smoke detector
Hi Ron. We have one smoke detector upstairs and one downstairs which does not sound the others when detected. How can we fix this??
Sound like they are not interconnected? ore maybe they are at fault? you will have to run a wire between them to connect them if they are not interconnected, they need the red wire to talk to each other.
@@channelron3593 I've seen some wireless interconnected smoke detectors. They are expensive, but might be easier than running the red wire between floors.
Can I run two new units from the one original?
Yes as long as you do not over crowed the box, thanks for watching and stay safe (:
This has A 9120B First alert
12:02 For me, it would be better if you didn’t fast forward thru these connections.
Sorry, Sometimes I do that not thinking, still learning the video editing thing, noted and will do better (: Thanks for the input and thanks for supporting my channel.
@@channelron3593 But, I still learned a lot so thank-you CR !
@@rocketrider1405 basically, and that part of the video, Ron twisted each of the red wires together with a wire nut and twisted each of the white wires together with a wire nut and then twist it each of the black wires together with a wire nut. After each of these wires were twisted together with their respective wire nuts, he placed them back in the box. I watch that part twice and then the second time I watched it I said oh. Thanks again Ron.
That mask does nothing for protecting you in the attic
Probably not but looks good (: Thanks for watching.
Next time do not put music on your videos.
