Loved that, Steve. Did you ever think you’d be able to put together an 8 minute video of timelapse, stills and real time video of overhead aurora from your own area all from the same night?! Madness. Loved hearing your reaction as well - special times. 👍

Indeed! Glad you liked my efforts. Everything seemed to fall into place - powerful solar storm hitting at the right time of night for the UK, clear skies, no Moon interfering, negative Bz all night etc. I think it hasn't fully sunk in yet for the community just how special the event was 😃

Wow! Beautifully captured Steve - especially all the corona displays! Great to see your reaction at the end.

Thanks! I never thought I'd see such a display from the UK. Watching it, I was almost speechless, as you can tell! 😄

i saw this from a hill in oxfordshire. At first a thick green band was visible to the naked eye across the whole sky and then all hell broke loose.I was shouting oh my god, what the hell...texting people telling them to go look. Went to bed at 12:30 though it seems the display lasted most of the night. Absolutely amazing. Plus a fox i feed came out to say hello while i was watching the storm, so he got some grub:)

Nice one - it must have been great to see from a hill as you'd get a good context with the surrounding countryside. Hopefully your texts meant a few more people got to see it.

Absolutely stunning Steve. Although I wouldn't expect anything less. What interval have you left between each exposure in the timelapses?

Thanks! Glad you liked it. I tried to do justice to the display. With most of my time lapse shots I find it works best to have the long exposure noise reduction on and use this as the interval. So, most of the corona shots were between 1s and 2s long so the interval was the same, plus a second or so for the camera to write the file. So, the very first corona shot was at 1.6s plus the same for the noise reduction. When I look at the files there seems to be 5s between each shot (it was a 550D and so a bit slow at writing the file). The west and east shots were similar but slightly longer exposure times of 1s to 3.2s. Some of the sequences make the aurora look a little 'fast' but in reality it was changing form pretty rapidly anyway so I thought I'd leave it in the video as is.
