There actually were two WWF/SWS shows held at the Tokyo Dome. The first, held on March 30, 1991 (about a week after WrestleMania VII), was Wrestlefest in Tokyo Dome, which featured Hogan & Tenryu against the Road Warriors as the main event, as well as a match between the Hart Foundation and the Rockers, and the precursor to the Tenta/Kitao shoot that happened two days later. The second was SuperWrestle, held on December 12, which featured the Hogan/Tenryu one-on-one match.
SWS was going to be the centerpiece of Megane Super having a gym, spa and golf empire, and was within moments of having Keiji Muto, to the point Muto tried to give his notice. Hachiro Tanaka has a lot of crazy stories to him that are peak Japan bubble- he spared no expense to book Michael Jackson at a flipping Christmas party, and responded to concerns they couldn’t fill their first of two dome cards by giving carte blanche to saying ‘book people that can’. When WWF wasn’t given all the spotlight, there were moments from the hybrid style, and even with fed guys like Rick Martel, who showed up to WORK with Naoki Sano. Ultimately it was the recession that killed it. Tanaka even made Tenryu fire the boys when passing the buck, which garnered Tenryu enough empathy to get WAR most of that talent.
@@sklba632 Well, it's not much of a match but as it happens they did wrestle! Randomly, on WCW Worldwide in 1998. It's here on YT, in fact: ruclips.net/video/N0PhdcIN-Ew/видео.html
Man....... "SWS was... just not any good." That's an understatement. Yeah, a promotion books Tugboat vs. Roadblock... I don't care what country or era it is (except maybe Big Daddy vs Giant Haystacks era UK wrestling), Tugboat vs. Roadblock is NOT gonna be good. And I'm saying this as a guy who was a fan of Roadblock. ((He was my favorite jobber.))
SWS aka WWF Japan. Cause that’s basically what it was with how close WWF was to the promotion.

Cool story bro
There's a GREAT OSW watch a long episode for that first show
I would love to see a video about Akira Maeda and Fighting Network RINGS.
Honestly, I would love a video on all the shoot style promotions.
UWF & UWFI retrospective please!
Amazing job btw!
The audio always feels 5/6 seconds ahead of the video. Otherwise this is very well done
You plan on covering the Kitao/Earthquake incident in a future video?
Imagine John Nord and Bruiser Brody tagging in Japan. That'll be scary.
No one will tell them apart!

Hyup Kim, great idea to have a separate channel. Deep dives like nobody else
I love these kinds of stories
Awesome documentary 💯 I enjoy your wrestling content hope you can do some deep dives into All Japan from the 2000s 💪
...not the 90s? AJPW wasn't exactly great during the 2000s. It was a mess.
the natural disasters? that''s the best name ever! This is a great idea. :)
Good idea! I've always found your pro wrestling knowledge to be "deep cut", so let's go! 🙏
Great upload Kim really liking your new channel keep it up.
12:28 My love for you is ticking clock BERSERKER... He was the guy with a sword that preferred to beat jobbers via countout right?
Thx Kim!
17:03 went into queen Elizabeth mode
Loving the new channel Kim 👍👋
Looking forward to part 2 :)
@10:17 is that Ultimo and Savage? If so, what and where?
It's Ultimo, but alas it's not Savage. IIRC, his opponent is Jerry Estrada at SWS's Tokyo Dome Show.
@@thewrestlingroad Cool. I was digging for Ultimo vs Savage on Cagematch and was coming up empty.

@@thewrestlingroad Yeah, I found that on the quest to see if it happened in SWS.
I don't see part 2 anywhere on the channel.
SWS sounds like 1994 to July 1996 era WCW
What was it that you said from 17:45 to 17:53? I'm guessing the audio was muted here due to copyright.
Probably mentioned hard gay
Rob Terry was the man
