Great video! It is in fact an M4 bayonet produced by the Case knife company for the U.S. military. The M4 was for use on the M1 carbine. Early WW2 carbines lacked a bayonet lug and the M3 fighting knife was issued instead of a bayonet. Late war and subsequent refurbishment of M1 carbines post war added a bayonet lug. The M3 blade profile was adopted for the M4 bayonet. We kept that blade profile for the M5A1 (new production M1 Garand bayonet), M6 (M14) and the M7 (M16A1 and M16A2). Why would a civilian have a bayonet? Bayonet collecting is a hobby all by itself. Here in the U.S. we can own firearms. Some folks will get a significant military firearm and collect all the issue accoutrements that were issued to troops. Slings, cleaning kits, holsters, etc.
Love seeing these wonderful old things lovingly restored and brought back to life. The attention to detail and trying to keep it authentic is what appeals to me the most.
Project Farm (RUclips Channel) did a rusty nuts and bolts test in 2018. He used heat, homemade mixture of acetone/transmission fluid and various penetrating oils you can purchase at stores or online. $4.00 can of "Liquid Wrench" won the competition. Next time maybe soak the object in "Liquid Wrench" for a while before trying to separate the components. How long is best? IDK 😁
That's not a M-4 knife it's a M-4 bayonet for the M-1 carbine the knife you are thing of is the M-3 it had a different palmal to the M-4 and the garud didn't have a muzzle ring
You make same mistake as others. Gun blue is not aplied in just one coat. After first coat, rub with rough cloth and than aply another layer. After 4 or 5 layers it gets black like its factory made.
This was a waste of time, at least mine if not yours. I think it was a waste of your time too though. You've done so much better in the past. Didn't seem serious about this one.
I hope the Dilbert reference and support isn't what I think it is. The Dilbert comic has been disgraced and pulled from nearly all publications after the creator went on a racist rant. The deliberate acknowledgement and prominent placement of the Dilbert comic implies support of said comic and creator, and I honestly hope that wasn't the intention.

The handel looks good. Great work.
Wonderful work! I advise everyone to watch the work of the master! Interesting and fascinating! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Rather unique way to honor those who served!
The handle was nicely done 👍
Nice job! And the comedic adds were appreciated as well. I'm hoping to restore my own USM4, your video gives me instruction and inspiration.
It’s obvious that the reason why the Naval Jelly didn’t work because the bayonet was made for the Army….😉
0:39 " *Naval Jelly* ⚓: It's been *sitting around for years* , not even sure *what this one stuff is supposed to look like* yet...😟"

Great job
Чётко сработано, реставрация класс. Спасибо за видос, лайк.
You're a riot. Great style. 👌🤓
Have you ever considered getting a dry ice blaster for cleaning off the rust?
I'm a big fan, and the struggle to get this apart was real. I didn't get the Monday-Dilbert reference.
Mood is important. And you have 12 toes. That's the 2 important things in this video.
Sei un fenomeno
Don't drink your sludge neat. We don't want you to start using the bayonets. Mix it with the pink stuff. The "Pink Restorer" cocktail!

Usually sold for people who can't afford to buy the original or who want to use it for reenactments.

The sludge drink was stupid and dangerous, now some kid watching this will try it because the guy on you tube did it!
Very good restoration, I always wondered why you wore gloves? Now I know your a Yank.

You would do better to use an acid brush and paint on the navel jelly rather than trying to soak things in it.
12?

Maybe this was filmed before Scott Adams stuck his foot in his mouth up to his hip.
@@pfadiva timing is suspicious, I don't recall him ever including a dilbert comic in any other video.
I filmed the video a week before. It has nothing to do with that guy.
