    Thanks for exploring more of Haruna's work. This is a rented kit for the EU tour wherein they had no "roadies".
    Haruna keeps this pace for the vast majority of their 2 hours sets. They often end shows with songs that are possibly 'most demanding' with Haruna driving hard without fail, seemingly thriving on the most challenging songs.
    "Soldier Stands Solitarily" (suggested by many on your "Raise Some Hell" reaction) is a performance following 85minutes of similarly demanding drum play, then back for an encore of more equally demanding drumming with just a couple minutes break since the shows were 'live-streamed' so they did not leave the present or online audience waiting long for the encore.
    As a drummer myself who has played (classic rock power-trio) outdoor 'festival, 5-hour-gigs, but they were 50min sets with 10min breaks). Haruna's precision dbl-kick work & detailed cymbal-accents supporting/mimicking the other instruments & vocal melody is something I find unique. LOVEBITES is an ensemble playing all "as written" note-for-note & beat-for-beat. The only improvisation you will see in performance might be in a coda-frenzy at the end of a song. Every hand or foot 'hit' from Haruna is what she has 'written' for the song and reproduces in precise detail in every performance.
    LOVEBITES' (anticipated) next Blu-ray will most likely be from their Sept 1, 2024 show at Tokyo Garden Theater, an 8000 capacity venue where they played 20 aggressive songs over 2hr, 10min. Haruna's stamina is amazing. She commented on the Tokyo Garden show about it's 20-songs setlist as their longest to-date, but that once she gets behind the kit & starts playing she feels no fatigue (!) She has developed her technique over many years to facilitate this style of play for this style of music and consulted with 'professionals' on the matter of no harming herself. She insists that she remains completely RELAXED!
    Here again is the playlist of LIVE songs with the drums boosted in the mix:
    ruclips.net/p/PLDrelmq7IszKuEUqRuDCXMtVuvQC0u-Ye
    LOVEBITES 'style' (imo) significantly involves 'ballads' with hyper-tremolo-picked, palm-muted, arpeggiated-chords but the chord-changes are not terribly fast. It is Haruna's drumming style that makes it all METAL, (again, imo).
    The chord-changes & vocal-melody are often 'ballad' pace.
    Any comments of 'comparison' with Senri (or any other drummer, for that matter) seem out-of-place to me, on a drum-reaction-channel, since each drummer is standing on their own unique style & techniques to meet the needs of different styles of music & song-compositions. The ability to admire a variety of unique styles & techniques to meet different drumming 'needs' in music is what has benefited me in developing my own skills and enjoying the myriad of possibilities.
    This is all intended as positive info, feedback and observations.
    If you don't like Metal, I suggest looking through my comment on your "Raise Some Hell" video (under your pinned comment) that include short descriptions of the style of song prior to the song-name & link to see/hear it. LOVEBITES is actually quite eclectic.
    A few others, "Empty Daydream" "Edge of the World" "Liar" and one I find difficult to categorize that ballet-dancing/R&B/Soul vocalist Asami brought with her to the band is "Inspire": ruclips.net/video/7v8bkVuqnFU/видео.html
    I will also say that IF and HOW you reply to this will determine IF and HOW I continue to support your exploration of Haruna's drumming 😉and LOVEBITES music in general.

      Yes, rented kit (she had her own set of cymbals though, and maybe her own snare). I watched her tuning her skins during the second concert rehearsal (Belgium) - it only took her a few minutes to get a perfectly tuned and great sounding kit, drum soundcheck was over in 10 minutes, totally professional.

The only instrument I ever played was drums in a middle school band so I always have a appreciation for drummers. Haruna is amazing and you can tell she is happy doing what she does. 🧡🐺🥁⭐🤘

    My favorite drummer in the world from my favorite band of all time! They're just that amazing. I highly recommend checking out some full live performances to get an idea of their song flow. I love them. I've seen them twice. Very close both times. Front row, small venue, maybe 12-15 feet from her kit. When she came in, it was a wall of force that flew out. Was amazing. Personally, I think they're the greatest metal band in the world right now and they're my favorite of all time. Just unbelievable.

    Give HARUPI some! Double bass drumming for just 20 seconds is incredibly hard. I have no idea how she does this. It’s superhuman.
    The cymbal work is how she cuts through the mix. The bass is locked in with the incendiary riffing of the M&M twin guitar attack, and the toms share the audio spectrum of the guitar,
    The first two songs to check out are HOLY WAR (2021), and SOLDIER STANDS SOLITARILY. So it’s with the crashes, chimes, and bells that HARUNA can add a musical element.

    I had a feeling you'd appreciate her skills a bit more with this one, I'm not an drummer so I can't comment on how she holds her sticks, but I can say that she never falters, as far as I've seen, never misses a beat, and has impeccable timing, Senri Kawaguchi is, as far as I know, is one of her idols. Anyway Thank-you for reacting to this one, I hope you do some reactions to the band, they really are something special, I've seen them live and they are 💯 the Queens of Heavy Metal 🤘🎤🎹🎸🥁🐺

    • @DavidKAnderson
      @DavidKAnderson 20 часов назад +3

      No surprise Haruna idolizes Kawaguchi (despite Senri being younger): the latter's in most informed conversations for best drummer there is.
      In any case, Haruna is the _perfect_ drummer for Lovebites. Her relentless style, spot-on timing, and fantastic tone powers each and every track. Her drum parts are technical enough to be interesting in their own right without walking on all the other technical stuff going on in a typical Lovebites song. She absolutely _lives_ in the pocket.
      Moreover, she has that priceless ability to be on the same page with her rhythm section companion. In Lovebites, Miho and Fami are rather different bassists, but Haruna was able to form a damn near symbiotic relationship with each of them.

    • @gordonnottsfinest180
      @gordonnottsfinest180 20 часов назад +1

      Haruna is,in my opinion, the No.1 drummer out there today, and that is something special considering the calibre of drummers in the world today. I agree with your assessment regarding the timing with both Miho and Fami, but they also have to match Haruna, but like you said they have different styles and this is what makes Haruna so much more than just another great drummer. Again this is just my opinion. As for Senri being her idol, I think it was something either she or someone said in an interview, but I could be wrong.

    • @DavidKAnderson
      @DavidKAnderson 19 часов назад +1

      @@gordonnottsfinest180 Haruna's right up there for me with metal drummers, for sure (fusion drummers like Kawaguchi, Weckl, Phillips, etc. operate on a whole 'nother level, tbh). My favorite is Tamu Murata (Nemophila), but it's interesting that among the really specialized niche of "female Japanese metal drummers" there are a whole bunch of great choices! There's also Meg (just left Ark Royal), Akane Hirose, Junna, Mizuki (East of Eden), and others. And that's leaving off Kanade Sato (KOIAI) as being more of a fusion drummer. The drum mojo over here is _strong_.

    Obviously this is not Haruna's kit (She endorses Pearl and Sabian) it was rented for this European tour. My question for drummers is how hard is it to adapt to a kit that you're not used to playing. Haruna doesn't seem to have any problems but this kit must have some differences to her personal kit.

    • @DavidKAnderson
      @DavidKAnderson 19 часов назад +2

      If you have the elements (drums, cymbals, pedals) in the same locations, the same or nearly identical pedals, and similar drum head tension (which effects the rebound of the stick quite a lot), adapting isn't a big deal for a professional like Haruna.

    Thank you for your insights. I'm in my 70s now and was here when the British Invasion flooded us with hundreds of solid music heroes. There are still parts of my beloved metal that I don't have as deep an appreciation on some instruments. One is drums and the more drummers I listen to the more versed and able to expand my understanding in this crucial aspect. The first drummer who grabbed me by the short and curlies was Ginger Baker - who's kick work shows up in some of Haruna's creations. She is unique and genuine. I read comments by drummers from their tour, that she is so swift and powerful it impressed them - these are from Hellfest, Download Festival, Resurrection fest and others I don't remember at the moment - a bit smokey here right now ;) So thanks for your input, gave me some great takeaways to pay attention to going forward. Her nickname "The Big Little Engine" is apt, think you so? Miyako's nickname is "The Golden Touch". Looking forward to some more insights, I subbed will get notifications. One other drummer that "spoke" to me was Barry "Frosty" Smith who recorded 3 albums with one of the Hammond masters, Lee Michaels (as a duo!) Especially their '69 Album. She also reminded me a bit of Buddy Miles with the use of her complex transitions and fills. I'll stop rambling now, but will be catching up until more come out --- I'm old but still enough teeth to sink in a good bite! Ron

    Thank you for your commentary, this was great.
    Haruna is like a steam-powered locomotive.
    Haruna does not make RUclips videos and only uploads a few cellphone videos to her social media, they are severely lacking in the drum cam department.
    Her drum solo for the next Blu-ray was excellent, but she doesn't really focus on drum solos either, she is well-rounded and really amazing with her whole kit, high stamina and explosive fills with syncopated accents that always touch many cymbals. She is the perfect drummer for their style - 80 power metal, speed, thrash metal.
    I would pay extra money for a Blu-ray that just focuses on her kit for 2 hours.
    She has done a couple of clinics, but those are strictly no recording device events.
    Check out Thunder Vengeance, Set the world on fire, Break the wall.

    I think she has a drum setup video where she says something about each piece, manufacturer and drum size. I think, not a drummer, guitars, bass Keyboard ( and suck ar all of threm ) did have a Cowsills Drum Set when I was 3, no sense of rythm so gave that up. But i think her 2 kick drums are 20 and 21 inch.

    I work with a Vietnamese lady who is 5-foot-3, which makes her the same size as the tallest members of Lovebites (actually, I think new bassist, Fami, is 5'4"), so I can picture Haruna being six inches shorter and actually comprehend how tiny she is. When you just see them on stage, with only the band members, it isn't so obvious. But I recently saw a photo of Haruna and Asami (the singer) posing with Rob Halford and Ian Hill of Judas Priest (they got to meet at a recent JP concert in Japan), and the ladies looked like little girls next to those gentlemen.

    Nice reaction! Yeah, we Lovebites fans love Haruna. She is a small, nerdy and cute girl that have stolen our heart. And she plays in maybe the best heavy metal band that exists right now. And she can keep up drumming blinding fast for two and an half hours. Her technique is a bit odd. But, she has explained her choices. And actually, sometimes she play "normal" songs and the drumming technique then looks more normal.
    Now, I really think you shall react to Lovebites. They have two of the best dual guitarists you can find. And a surprising, but good, singer in a metal band. Here is a short list of the best to react to.
    * Holy War (live in Zepp Divercity 2020)
    * The Hammer of Wrath (live 2023)
    * Soldier Stand Solitarily (live 2023 - one of the more crazy fast songs you ever will hear)
    * A Frozen Serenad (live 2020, a masterpiece IMHO)
    * and 60+ more good or fantastic songs. They do not make anything bad.

    Because we are fans of this band we have seen the CDs and BRs of entire concerts. That means we have seen Haruna do this for 1.5 or 2 hours while smiling, singing along, playing to the crowd, and doing stick tricks to help with her timing. You shouldn't be faulted simply because you happened to choose one of there simplest songs for a first reaction. I happen to like your personality and style, so there's that. The drums are often produced pretty high in the mix so you can hear what she's doing even without the benefit of drum cams.

    Have you seen Wagakki band... they have 2 drummers and one plays the traditional drums like you held the drumsticks tightly. And the other one who plays the western drums plays both metal and jazz and does as you say, but with the jazz songs he does that sideways thing yoi see jazz drummers do with thr left hand like the Surfaris drummer playing whipe out.... you probably seen that but if not check it out. It is a drum heavy song.

    This girl can hit........LMAO!!! You have no idea, she is the driving force like this for the usual 2 hour show where the insane talent of this band is on full display. She gets very little shine time yet she drives the insane band like others. She has a rabid fan base within the Wolfpack (LB fanbase). At 4' 9" she dominates that massive kit like she was 7' !!!!!
    Other great drummers from Japan for your consideration are Junna (insane and a real delight, check out her drum covers of classic metal songs), Akane from Band Maid (many consider her the best in Japan among the Rock/Metal genre) there are so many other great musicians as Japan is where Rock, Metal and Jazz have gone to flourish.

    I think she just doesn't have enough strenght, so when she wants to hit harder than usual she just throws entire forearm weight with stiff wrist, instead of only wrist and stick weight with relexed wrist. I'm not a drummer, so maybe what I wrote doesn't make sense, please comment if ti doesn't.

    TBF - Senri doesn't constantly have to play for 2 hours with every song being over 160 BPM and she does play a lot more jazz which is a much looser technique than metal . Most male drummers would need a defibrillator on hand to do what Haruna does night after night 🤣

    “My callouts were her hand technique, as well as energy, as well as her technicality.”
    Within the context of comparing her to other female Japanese drummers, I’m probably the ONLY Lovebites fan who has been more critical of her drumming. She is good yes, but not the best by a long shot. BTW, you are not actually alone, as lots of drummers have had issues they pointed out (usually that her drumming is more straightforward, less technical, with those sort of comments), it’s just the fanbase will go after them, and channels later apologize and become less critical, or regret it and never check her out again. I think most become the latter.
    BTW, welcome to Lovebites. 😂
