    FYI, a longer wheel based vehicle is safer for towing. If the Tacoma was swaying something was wrong with the setup because a 16’ Bambi is tiny and way under the max tow rating of a V6 Tacoma.

    You have to use a weight distribution hitch and you will tow straight

    I have a Cayenne Hybrid 2016. Hopefully yours is a certified pre-owned. I love mine, but once they start having issues, repair costs are very high. Start saving now.

      Amen to that Bro! Everything on that Porshe is expensive to repair. Brakes alone 5 grand or more. A new Cayenne costs over 100 grand. Where does this young couple get that kind of money? Plus, their home looks to be expensive. Since they are tubing to the public, these questions are fair game.

    I had a Tacoma and I towed a boat, Challenger 1800 ski boat. It was so bad. The tacoma was not good at all. Weak towing capability. I agree, the RR with the V8 is really great. I had that setup too with my boat. The RR was a night and day difference in towing.

    Get an equalizer hitch for towing. You are not towing a rented U-haul trailer for the weekend. Your truck would have been fine.

    I think if you added air bags to the Tacoma to stiffen up the suspension you would like the way it handled. The newer model airstreams have a composite floor, hopefully they can put that in.

    Did y'all have a tow sway bar to help controlling that trailer swaying?

  • @annlara5688

    Yes it sounds like you need the distribution hitch. There is a great video about it on the channel “Keep the daydream” that explains it. Good luck and Congratulations🤰

    The Porsche is a unibody, so you can't use the WDH on it or it will bend your frame. That will significantly limit you on the ability to go to a larger RV in the future using it as a tow vehicle. I tow with a Tacoma and it handles great. The longer the tow vehicle the greater the stability.

  • @bruceh3786
    @bruceh3786 3 года назад +1

    To much weight in the rear of the trailer can cause sway. When you get it back, stop at a Cat scale and weigh both the trailer and tow vehicle, then a second weigh of just the tow vehicle so you can figure the tongue weight. Tongue weight should be at least 10 percent of the total trailer weight. Also have the trailer loaded like you do when going on a trip. That include water, bikes on tne back, etc. I doubt the truck was the problem.

    Gongrats on having a baby. I just had a hitch installed on my 2019 Audi Q8. If you haven’t done so already be sure to have a Porsche dealer install the hitch. This is a big and extensive job, in that the entire bumper and electronics have to be remove or disconnected. It may require some programming afterwards as well. It will be expensive but will be worth it and also headache free.

    Beautiful car. Maybe not the ideal car for towing campers. Yes V8 but in time, long term towing wears on this suv. Get ready for high maintenance costs 😖
    Tacoma is great truck, especially for towing. Think your issue was human error. Keep learning towing tips, still amateurs. Best of luck...

    Don’t listen to the negative comments. I tow my Airstream 28ft with my Cayenne GTS without any issues for many years. Great choice on a tow vehicle. We are also running a pro pride hitch as well, cayennes have really large brakes but you might think about a brake controller. I can’t remember if all cayennes (the year you have) have the built in plug under the dash for the brake controller but if it doesn’t you can go with a wireless brake controller.

    Wow. You guys really have been through so much since you started this adventure. We have an AS Bambi 20FB and we have a few little issues but nothing like what you’ve been going through. I hope airstream gives you true satisfaction for your expensive purchase. You should have checked your sway and distribution setup first. We’re using a 2019 Ford Ranger with an Equalizer sway setup and we have zero issues with towing or sway. Either way we hope you get ALL of those issues resolved and get back on the road again but super safely. Keep bringing those great videos. They’re really informative and helpful. Les deseamos mucha suerte! Take care out there!!!

    Excellent choice, I have a 2020 Cayenne S, yours and mine tow 7,700 lb’s. I’m looking forward to how you do with it. Shop around at dealers for the hitch, some will quote over $3,000. I had a 2015 and paid $1100 it is a big job and has to be tied in to the computer, dealer is best to install.

    When I’ve looked stuff up, I found some trailers I thought were interesting. If you want to get away from air stream, look up fiberglass campers like Scamp, Casita, and Escape. They should be similar in size and layout to the airstream. I don’t know anything about build quality because I haven’t owned one myself. I heard they can last longer then a normal every similar to airstream. You might have to wait a while though. These companies are usually small and can’t keep up with order. Everywhere I look it takes about 6 months.

    • @Joe-cu4hi
      @Joe-cu4hi 4 года назад

      WalterPuppet those fiberglass campers are great but only 6’ and 7’ wide where the Bambi is 8’ wide. I’ve been in this other ones and it feels really narrow 😕

    Wow... That was clearly a composite panel with fiber glass. Probably vinyl ester or epoxy resin that was not fully cured. The base chemicals in those can cause sensitization in their un cured state. It takes time. The resin was either mixed improperly or not fully cooked. That's a manufacturing quality issue. Hopefully a one time event. Be careful in the future with any un mixed epoxy or vinyl ester resins. You may have another bad reaction.

  • @MajTom-wd2yt
    @MajTom-wd2yt 4 года назад

    A single axle AS without a sway control hitch WILL sway no matter whats towing it.
    A shorter wheel base SUV just increases the possibility. The Porsche will tow, but it's made to handle great by itself.

  • @jamescharlesjones1266
    @jamescharlesjones1266 3 года назад

    That airstream was a big chunk of money to have all those malfunctions in such a short time frame. Have you looked into an Oliver?

  • @rgarri6396
    @rgarri6396 4 года назад +8

    Your wrong about to long, the longer the wheelbase the better. Short wellbase make poor tow! You should of had no problem with that trailer and truck. Could you have the setup wrong? After seeing your new car I ask are you sure your on the road to prosperity or road to poor house?

  • @rmaddoxmaddox3574
    @rmaddoxmaddox3574 4 года назад +2

    NICE car. If the chemical gas was strong enough to put you in the hospital, I would be very much afraid of keeping that trailer, or any Airstream. Whatever products the company used in manufacturing that trailer would also be used in others that they made. I would not want to expose a pregnant person or a newborn to that risk. Best of luck in resolving this issue. I look forward to seeing you back on the road.
