Hi all! Andy Sowerby here, the director and editor of the film. If you have any questions or comments about The Jump then please let me know. I hope you enjoy it!
Hoshi no koe, just shorter and with human actors. At least they did a good job, well above average for this kind of movie. I also like the minimalist set and lighting for inside the spaceship, but those "wormhole" animations in the mid narrated part look like some old video game, almost spoiled the entire experience.
Is it possible to make the hauntingly beautiful music available that was used for this short film? Is there a place where we can buy it from your composer?
So why did her baby die?.... Was he the Father?
What a beautifully human story.
Bravo and thank you to all involved.
Outstanding quality, truly remarkable.
@@Dillinger86 if theory was "fact" why must it be proven? A theory is an idea which can be more and more convincing through experimentation. At least do some basic research - nob-nosher...
That's what exploration is all about. Losing ourselves in order to gain knowledge for future generations.
Beautifully acted. The love between this husband and wife seems so real, so palpable. That they sacrificed this love is heart-rending. One might ask, how could anyone, who was TRULY in love, leave their spouse for such an extended time? Was the husband too selfless? Did the wife's ambition drive her to selfishness? Surely, in the future, when space missions like this become a reality, it would be a prerequisite that the astronaut be unmarried and child-less? SIDE NOTE: The aging process of the husband was INCREDIBLY well done and completely believable.
OK....DUST, you made me cry over my burger...tighten up.
Great old age progression!!
Well that was a lot more than I expected to feel from a mere 8 minutes... Imagine how long it was... or will be for us.
How many days, weeks or years do all of us take for granted?
each day as it comes ask for nothing more & expect nothing neither, just live each moment in the now and be great full of all that has past happy & inspired for the present & look forward to what is yet to happen & become the now present in the future. infinite outcomes are all possible from that which you choose to do today tomorrow and everyday there after
All the more reason to make our own version of the grays.
Too many. Even if your answer is 1. Humans are dumb. We save what can easily get more of and waste what's irreplaceable.
These films are usually really great quality. Acting, Directing, Cinematography. But I'm especially impressed with the sound in these films. The opening scene had my walls and floor rumbling through the subwoofer. My neighbors aren't thrilled though.
A sad fact about distant space travel. There will be a need to send those knowing that if they ever return, then no one they ever knew would be alive. A sad but very real representation of future space travel. Kudos. Very well delivered and directed. Very emotional and very true, unfortunately.
And given the attention span of governments and a fickle public, they might even return to a world that has forgotten them as well.
This is true only if we didn’t manage to build a Alcubierre drive
Well, at least according to our current capabilities.
@v1doc We already know the manipulation of dark energy has already been or is trying to be attempted. Just like I very much believe that scientist have already tried to create or have already created exotic matter...if it couldn't be possible then why spend all the money at CERN to build an impossibility?? I guess we won't know until we know, if they even tell us that is...
Return ? This is the problem with the Lie. TR3B photographed in 1970s NASA photo it proves they've always lied to us. TR3B would circle the sun and back in 15 minutes
Dust. People watch movies and make comments about them all the time. But having actors and directors that respond directly to an individual is rare. Keep it up Dust.
An old theme, but not as far as I can remember, so beautifully made. I could swear the film was 25 minutes. It's 8.
Because you went though a wormhole while watching it.
Excellent!!!
The journey is always best when shared with someone, whether it be mom, dad, sister, brother, friend, partner, whoever you love.
As social animals, good, warm, tender-loving emotional connections are vital for our mental health.
You couldn't ever have a relationship if you were going to make this kind of travel, i suspect in the future they'd ween out people with relationships in the interview. When you interview for the peace corps they do exactly that, and that's only two years!
I agree. They might as well not continue with the relationship after she left. And in the end she admitted to running away. She wasted his time
Beautiful 😍
And heartbreaking
I really loved this short movie. Well done in every aspect: argument, music, effects, acting. Congratulations.
Exceptionally well done in all ways. This is a classic film. Not merely a movie.
I thought like others in the comments that this theme had been done before. But despite that, this film was so worth watching. A different story to similar ones I've seen. And if a film can bring tears to my eyes in 7 minutes, it's definitely worth a thumbs up. So sad and yet so beautiful.
Andy , this blew my mind and made me realize just how precious life’s moments are , and how fleeting time really is . Make the most of your life and don’t waste it …
Love passes time and time passes love
I liked it! Thanks👍👍
A+ Production. Deep and quite intriguing thoughts arose after watching this. For such a short piece, it was depressing, yet promising and uplifting. The years went by for him - a lifetime. For her, just a few. But, through the years, even knowing the messages were not getting through, he remained steadfast and courageous - for her. A story of time, discovery, sacrifice, and the most of all... LOVE. In the end there is still the promise of the unknown - _the other side._
Excellent. Simple, yet super deep and meaningful. Great work with this short. Thank you for posting!
Thank you!
Beautiful movie.. great visuals...
Beautiful pacing, thoughtful performances. Very good indeed.
P.S. posters:
It's art, not astrophysics 101.
It's about emotions and memories, not speculations on interstellar travel and time dilation.
Like or dislike it for what the story might reveal to your mind and heart.
There are plenty of forums on hard science fiction, which this ,I think, is not meant to be.
Thanks, all.
And thanks especially Mr.Sowerby.
Another excellent, thought provoking piece. I think the one thing I have learned in my life is to treasure every minute you have with your significant other because life can separate you much quicker than you thought possible. I would say not to put off time together when you have it.
GREAT & POWERFULLY emotional short!
That short just showed me that if you say you love someone and it doesn't resemble that right there, you actually dont love that person at all.
Hi.Good time to all.. thanks mr. Andy fantastic
How did the end creep up on me like that!
Wow that was surprisingly emotional,great film,props to the director and actors
You're a good friend.
Thank you!
@@AndrewJohnSowerby youre welcome,would love to see more of your work!
Beautiful 💚⭐️
Thank you....well done....time is but a fleeting moment past...for time was ceated by man and is not in the universe...may your moments be GRAND....PEACE
That was a heavy one!
Excellent example of how much a good script can do, as opposed to special effects and visuals. This will keep me thinking for a while. Could be interesting to explore the other side: a world of space jumping elites visiting the grunts on the planets every few years, enjoying rapid progress, while those who make progress happen are stuck to natural aging.
👍👍👍👍👍❤️ love goes beyond ....the other side
How many of us would sacrifice everything for what may or may not be progress? I guess no decision is the wrong one if we make the best of it.
We don't know if we have made the right decision or not untill after we have made it.
This is wonderful.
So sad to know there will never an answering message for him, and he cannot even know if any of his went through. How heartbreaking...
😢
@@AndrewJohnSowerby He does mention how she looks in the last message, so at least that one got through. Or did I miss something?
Beautiful!
Such a beautiful demonstration...that we are loosing contacts in this running crowded world...even if our loved ones are near it doesn't feel that way!.....we are too much involved in doing good for future and seems we forgot to live in present ✨✨
Memories may well have a temporal stamp but activating them is priceless and timeless.
Nice... Anyone that lives a long time will experience this. We lose everyone we ever loved.
Yes, indeed. The one sure thing about life is that no one gets out alive. See you on the other side.
Thank you... 😢
Touching.
Amazing Story 👍👍
All this beauty
Excellent, very well done in every aspect (story, images....). The actress is amazing.
Just to say thank you so much for this pearl!
now that's what I call a multidimensional thought process, brilliant
The moral of this story is not to be married or in love with another human beings if you're going to travel through space for more than a year or two. It is selfish and cold thing to do.
Deep message hidden inside...:(((love is forever...feels like forever...
I just love watching your movies DUST
Brilliant... The cinematography, scenario, direction and acting 10 out of 10! I am gonna watch it again on a big screen
Brilliant. That is all.
That was great. These short vids are like sci-fi haiku.
WoW!,, Powerful!, And thought provoking!. ✌️
No parent should ever have to outlive their child.
Thank you. Very nice.
NEW VID MONDAY!!! THANKS DUST
Amazing what you can put in a little bit more than 8min. Well done and thank you.
Well done!
Intense! Really good job humanizing science fiction.
Really good! That's the way it's done!!!
Incredible impact! So well made, on every level. It sort of mirrors the stretched out perception of Space-Time that it's showing between the astronaut & her man, because the movie's *only* 8 minutes long, but feels like a full-length film. Just amazing. Congratulations & thank you!
Well done, how so much emotion can be packed into an 8 minute vignette. Nina is an amazing actress. As for going out through the wormhole into an unknown time differential, it somewhat reminds me of the people who have been signing up for a one way trip to Mars, but at least in their case, they know from the start what the duration is going to be.
So simple and yet so deep and emotional. I was touched. Very beautiful short, congrats!
Sad stuff! Touching.
Amazing Emotional!
Beautiful, painful. Great short film.
What a tragedy. I'm not too proud to say that this was a tear jerker.
That was extremely powerful, and most moving. Kudos!
Quite a common theme but this one was nicely delivered and it still nudges us at our core when we realize that this video is very much indicative of what modern space travel would be like. Well done!!
Fab video 😍
Very nice!
love it
Wonderful short film!
Darn it! Another short that should have been relegated to Lifetime Television. I got hyped by the last 3 good sci-fi shorts and fell for the title with this one. Another fee-fee short. 😫😤
Certified Gold!!!!!
Brian May wrote a song for Queen, on the same theme, called "39".
Tender. Thank you.
~~~ Tears~~~
Solution; bring the ones you love with you or don’t go. There are plenty of other people who don’t have such attachments and are ready for unknown adventure.
Exactly. So why not produce and present a short of that narrative? Besides, who is this main character thinking she can make the universe a bigger place? How arrogant. Or just dumb and naive. That was hokey script writing.
Great! Simple story, simple set. Simply touching.
Wow! That was beautiful, so much emotion in such a short time.. 🖤
That was very sad especially watching the shocked look on her face after seeing the love of her life turn into an old man. I wonder if the old man moved on when he was young and then had children and grandchildren
Excelente 💌
Excellent.
Very good...
Nice work Andy. Congratulations to you and the actors involved. Most enjoyable.
Thanks John. Glad you enjoyed it.
great acting by the woman (not the guy), overall good idea, would have loved to see more
jojojo !!! que groso !!
Well done! Short-n-sweet! Very well done! Deeply poignant!
Nice short.
True on the counter productive emotions 👍..its how receptor reads them.. cherish teachings, don't u?
Great job with the short!
However, it is never "counterproductive to display negative emotions."
If we can warp space and therefore time, you may be able to return without years or decades passing. Only the time we have been gone. Today's physics may only apply to how we understand now. Interesting thought for polite debate.
One day this will be possible
Very interesting concepts presented but once we become better familiar with space time the concept of an impossible day will change.
Very sad ending!
Very intriguing with a dash of real science. Great acting and special effects.
Thank you. Yes, the actors did a great job.
Sure they threw a bunch of science words to fluff it up, but in reality they got it all wrong with that "physicists use to argue endlessly over wormholes" Theory is fact not guessing.
Primo. well done.
