frigates play a crucial roll in every navy with several key roles, such as:
      1. Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) : Frigates are equipped with sonar systems and anti-submarine weapons to detect and engage submarines, thus protecting larger vessels and coastal areas.
      2. Anti-Air Warfare (AAW) : Many frigates have the capability to defend against aerial threats using surface-to-air missiles and radar systems to protect themselves and other ships in a fleet.
      3. Surface Warfare : Frigates can engage other surface ships, utilizing guns and missiles to maintain maritime security and assert naval power.
      4. Escort Duties : They often serve as escort vessels for larger ships, such as aircraft carriers and supply ships, providing protection against various threats.
      5. Patrol and Surveillance : Frigates conduct maritime patrols to monitor shipping lanes and prevent illegal activities, such as piracy and smuggling.
      6. Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief : In addition to combat roles, frigates can be deployed for humanitarian missions, providing aid and support during natural disasters.
Australia hasn't abandoned the Hobart destroyers; in fact, they are planning to build three more, as I have heard. However, our submarine fleet and frigates are in desperate need of upgrades, so those will be prioritized.

@@cplbruiser8267 there is a million things wrong with our Government. The first thing that springs to my mind, is that we haven't been buying what the ADF needs in reality, but what Politicians want to look after their jobs. A good example of that is the F-35 and now this very stupid AUKUS agreement.
Heck, for the price Oz paid for the F-35, we could have engineered and built the thing our bloody selves.
Na, the last Defence Minister that knew what he was doing and actually gave a shit about Australian security, was Kym Beasley. He bought exactly the right gear we needed at the time.
Since then, Prime Minister's and their Defence Ministers have been nothing but fucking Muppets.

surprisingly hard to hit a moving ship in the middle of the ocean, guarded by sensors and missile defence, countries have proved they can hit moving targets but mock ups on rail tracks towed in a straight line is not a proper test. SM2 x 8cells (or SM6 x 8cells) =8 anti-ballistic missile.
The U.S. Navy does not actively deploy ESSMs on Arleigh Burke class late ships because ESSM interferes with SM-2's ability to simultaneously intercept them. ➡ Namely, ESSM and SM2 cannot be operated together.(Guided to the same illuminating radar)

What have the Germans done for us? Japan is part of the QUAD. We should only be dealing with the QUAD members when it comes to buying military equipment. This allows Australia to have the same equipment and spares as our regional allies and encourages them to buy from us as well as for a common strategic goal. Maintenance, resupply and production costs can also be heavily reduced between QUAD countries.

@@boredatseaThe newer meko class all have been designed around to carry armament count for the weight and power and range for smaller budget countries armaments. The A200 and A210 class are all equipped with short range sams and sea ceptors. Armament the RAN do not use. The only ships that have ESSM is the curent older class meko 200 that Australia is replacing. If Australia purchased the A210 class it will cause a delay and budget difference as the ship will have to count for weight for RAN choices of armament. This would cause the ship to be built larger wider larger fuel capacity and power upgrades to its engine.
The only 2 class meko A200 that has some compatibility armament to RAN is south Africa and Egypt varent eqwiped with NSM navel srike missiles and torpedoes But they use short-range range sams and sea ceptors as the main. armament. The RAN do not use short-range sams and sea ceptors. So it wouldn't be a complete off the shelf design and complete overseas armament. The ship would have to redesign it to carry weight of ESSM and SM2
Japan has offered RAN 2 class of the Mogami the smaller 16 cell MK41 VLS Mogami that has been built now and the larger Mogami
Class that they building in 2027 that will have 32 MK41 VLS cells. The ship also has the same rolls royce engine as the hunter.class so be easier for RAN to have the rest of the units built in Australia including a variety of different phased aray radar systems that can be integrated as upgrades. So why would the government choose a Meko class?
