Thanks for the comparison. I remember almost picking up the Hot Rod version of the Revell model when it was on store shelves, then choosing something else to buy. After seeing both models, I'd much prefer the stock look of the AMT body. It also looks like the Revell has a hand built racing chassis. I do like the look of the T-tops and window louvers. MPC also made several Mustang II models. It would be cool to see a comparison of those also.
MPC has made a bunch of kits. Most of them, as with the Revell, are modified into some type of race car. That, and the kits are not cheap. It’s been a number of years since they were last made. Expect to spend $$$ to get one. Thanks for stopping by 👍
Thank you for sharing the history on mustang 2. Thanks for doing open box comparisons . I pick the revell over the AMT most of the time. Don’t like the two pieces tires . Have a great week have a safe trip 👊👊👍👍👊
Many thanks Neamon! Neither kit is very exciting, but I agree, the Revell body is very nice and will make a fun project one day. I’ll be in the state capital, Sacramento, all week. While I will be away from the bench, I’ll still have coming out! 👍
If you had the Revell Monroe Handler instead of the California Cobra you would have the silver parts chromed but the same low detailing but it's modelled after a real car.
Ahhhh, thanks for the info. I saw the Monroe cobra, I’m not sure if these were race cars or street cars, either way, I like the look. Thanks for stopping by 👍
The Monroe Handler was a street car that was featured in Hot Rod Magazine in 1977. It was a project car that the magazine did and Revell made a model of it. Similar to what they did with the California Cruiser Chevy Van, the Ford Courier, and the Ice Patrol Chevy pick up. All were project cars from the magazines.
Nice kit comparison, the Revell kit has a lot of body modifications built in, so you couldn’t do a stock version with that kit, but they both look pretty nice!
My very first car was a 75 mustang 2 it had a V8 302 motor red with black interior cragar wide spokes with posi -traction radial twisters my high school car worked at shoneys big boy to pay for it man that's a long time ago tough little pony
Enjoyed your review of this polarizing Mustang. I happen to love them as I grew up with them. One thing, though, the Mustang II was never made as a convertible. The one in the picture is a custom. I prefer MPC's kits with the rare 76 Cobra II is my favorite. I have about 23 or so Mustang II kits from MPC, AMT, Revell, and Otaki. But for me, the MPC was the most accurate, at least bodywise, and certain details. The Revell kit is their interpretation of the Monroe Handler that was featured in Hot Rod Magazine. While the exterior looks like it , the rest of the kit is totally inaccurate.
Wow, thanks for taking the time to comment. I do my best to share what knowledge I have and can find online, and it’s not always 100% accurate, but I try. Thank you for sharing you knowledge of the kits, that’s really awesome. Maybe one day they will be re-released 🤞Thanks for stopping by!
I don’t think the kits are similar enough to combine them. It would be best to assemble each kit individually then scratch build or use aftermarket parts for further detail. 👍
Great video Mike 👍 I personally think the AMT kit is better. The body on the Revell is ugly and low detail. The Mustang 2 has a great body as is. My father's first car was a Mustang 2. The AMT kit would be a great candidate to do a replica of my dad's first car.
Whether or not you contribute the M2 For saving the mustang it doesn't matter it's upto Ford if they make it or not, but they did sell very good, and look better than the fox body, and liter also, and they don't fall apart like the Fox body , I've had both, The Fox body i had was a convertible because the other's look too boxy, and the bubble rear glass on the Mercury's version hatch back looks a lot better,
Thanks! I think so too, a lot of the Revell kits replicated race cars, which is why I think this one lacks detail. I still think it’s pretty cool, but don’t plan on building it anytime soon. Thanks for stopping by! 👍

Enjoyed the background story interesting comparison with these two kits 👍
Thank you very much, more to come!
Fantastic unboxing buddy, love these unboxing videos...
Thanks Chuck, more to come! 👍
This one is on my wish list ...
Both kits seem to require a bit more work than average to get them looking good. Thanks for stopping by 👍
That's a couple of cool kits Mike!
Thanks. The Mustang II was an unusual car, and the kits tend to reflect that a bit 😆
Awesome video man, I like this series of content, looking forward for the next one
Thank you very much! 👍
very informative, Thanks for sharing.🤠👍
Thanks for stopping by 👍
Nice comparisons, Mike.
Thank you 👍
Cool video!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you and thanks for stopping by! 👍
Nice look at both kits. There issues with both of them, but I think the AMT kit is a little better. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, I agree. Neither is great, but the AMT looks slightly better. Thankfully, I’m not going to be building either anytime soon 😆

Great review Mike! I just subscribed to your channel. I look forward to watching more of your videos! Steven
Thank you very much, likewise, I look forward to more of your content as well. Thanks for stopping by 👍
Nice video Mike!
Thank you 👍

Thanks very much, you’re right, there are a lot of modifications made with the Revell kit. Neither is perfect, but both are a good starting point 👍

You don’t see many around these days. Seems like it was a cool little car 👍 Thanks for stopping by!

Good review of these Mustang kits, is it possible to kitbash them to get the details you want if you want a better California Cobra?

Neither kit is perfect, the AMT is more stock of the two. The Revell does a good job replicating the King Cobra. Enjoy! And thanks for stopping by 👍

AMT kit is more realistic and a much better kit.
