Thank you Don Joyce for your clear and detailed explanation. Am a final year Aerospace student in Kenya and knowledge from this video is very important in my drone design and fabrication projects. Thank you!
Don - this is an absolute Tour de Force.. I suspect that it should actually be the first video new operators watch. It is astounding to learn how incredibly sophisticated and capable our aircraft are... The only thing I cannot grasp is why Transport Canada hasn't made you their RPAS educational adviser. You are THE man for this subject in Canada (and quite likely further afield).
Thank you sir. I was looking for a detailed video on how drones work as I am right now training to be a drone pilot for agricultural research and development. The way you explained everything is impressive. You will see me around and just got a new subscriber. Have a blessed day sir.
Glad it was helpful! I have a free downloadable Training Roadmap here: www.pocketwatchpurveyor.com/collections/drone-study-guides. It will help guide you through my videos.
Currently preparing for the advanced license. Wanted to say thanks for putting this information together and helping us 'non-technical' folk understand the thingamajigs and doodads.
Awesome video, learned most of this at my first RPIC/ Ground Control Station Operation job. but was amazing to refresh before walking into my interview tomorrow. well done sir thanks for the refresher!
Tiltrotor drones use rotors first for straight-down lift, then slowly tilt into a horizontal direction. This kind of drone uses wings to provide the lift when travelling horizontally. The Wingtra drone isn't really tilt-rotor, but operates in a similar way. There is footage of it in this video (somewhere in the middle, then at the very end): ruclips.net/video/s-DWwMD-Zq8/видео.html Seeing it will help you understand the principle. Hope that helps!
Thank you Don, your topic coverage is like a tablecloth; colorful and everything from the ground up! Fantastic references on all topics, look forward to your tutorials!
Those drones are amazing. Especially when you consider what you are getting for your money. A decent point and shoot camera costs close to or sometimes more than a decent drone. Add a gimbal and you might as well just hand hold your drone to make videos. The technology has come a long way.
What excellent instructional videos you produce! Thank you! You have such a calm, clear and pleasant way of communication (side note on one tiny inconsequential thing I noticed that I have heard in a couple of your videos on drone communication... "Fresnel" is pronounced without the s, so "Fruh nel" is the typical pronunciation) ... thank you so much for your videos!
I would like to see an explanation of the DJI maps fly zones and no fly zones explained. I am inside a orange circle on map where because I am within 3 miles of 5.6 km of a small airport and am right on the edge of a runway approach grey on map. The edge of it run right thru the middle of my house.
That would be an interesting topic...I'll add it to my list. In the meantime, please be aware that the DJI fly safe map does not correspond to Canadian regulations, is missing key restricted zones, and adds some extra restrictions that should not really apply here. This video discusses these issues: ruclips.net/video/p0Ql_EK7Djw/видео.html
Excellent video Don, your explanation of how the different components come together was easy to understand and I personally gained a lot from it. I fly a mavic 2 pro down here in New Zealand.
Hey this s already video I just received a DJI MINI 2 for Christmas and have no drone experience at all. Òf course first thing I did was fully charge my batteries.
Hi Dave! Welcome to the wonderful world of drones! Please watch this video about how the regulations apply to the Mini 2 at the very least. I've got lots more! ruclips.net/video/K7H2TsEOlMw/видео.html
well done don on putting this amazing video together .. lots of cool information that u explained very well and kept it nice and simple . fantastic job don super well done ..
Thank you for watching and commenting, Dave! BTW, we're getting a nice big snowfall here in Ottawa. Will try to send some your way for some picturesque views!
What a FANTASTIC Video! Very easy to follow and love the diagram ;-) Thank you for these videos and your time, alway learning something new every time I watch one of your Videos
Thanks, Fraser! Glad you enjoyed the material and the other shots too! I often use leftover footage from my cinematic videos in these educational ones!
The DJI drones each seem to have a different number from what I've seen. And the more recent ones will warn you if it can't see enough...but still allow you to fly ATTI mode. Personally, I would feel uncomfortable with less than 12.
Hey Don! On my advanced drone exam there was a question regarding the satellite constellations that I can't find the answer to. Would the correct systems used here in Canada be GPS, GNSS and Galileo?
Thank you Don Joyce for your clear and detailed explanation. Am a final year Aerospace student in Kenya and knowledge from this video is very important in my drone design and fabrication projects.
Thank you!
Wow! How cool is that?! I'm glad you found the video helpful.
I know I am repeating myself but, well done Don again! You really are a champ! Keep em coming!
Thank you so much, Roger!

Thank you!!! The next one will be a nice relaxing one! Just for me! Lol
Thank you. Could you please elaborate on tiltrotor drones and how they transition from vertical to horizontal flight.

All true. And I know a few people who have actually used their drone for handheld shots, at least for B-Roll.

Hi Don. What is the sufficient number satellite that the drone needs to take off. Great stuff you have. Thanks.
