Flash Mob in London: Ode to Joy (2019)

- In Spring 2019, as the UK prepared but didn't quite manage to leave the EU, Dash Arts pulled off a flash mob rendition of Beethoven's Ode to Joy.
We brought together a wonderful ensemble of volunteer musicians and singers from across Europe, who were based in the UK, in the very centre of London.

My hat is off to those who performed this. Very difficult to pull of even in a performance setting much less this flash mob crowd. It brought me back to the time I witnessed the BSO perform the entire Beethoven’s 9th outdoors on the commons on a beautiful summer evening. The playing was spot on and the effect was ethereal. Never to be forgotten.

They actually had to re-record a bit of this afterward. You'll see some of the string players came out of a pub. They'd had a couple too many, and when they tried to play, they were off tempo.
There it was, the bottom of the Ninth. The basses were loaded. The score, tied.
I enjoyed this performance. But, I just can't get over how bundled up everyone is in June. Here in Houston, Texas, it was 35°C on June 7th. :-)
This was probably February, because London gets super hot during summer

Perhaps there should be a flash mob Ode to Joy every day in London until the horrid Tory government gives up, and a decent coalition takes over, and gets us back into the EU, where we belong. And Von der Leyen needs to quit the EU. Then we can all live in peace and prosperity.

As a young Brit, I say bring on the Beethoven!
No disrespect intended, I also hasten to add that I have been a fan of Beethoven for more than 60 years. However, this sounded like a wall full of cats wailing for supper and simultaneously arguing amongst themselves over the choice of entre.

But a year later, in a day which made the UK weaker, they left.
typical Britain.. im sure they had to get permits from the police, fire service, ambulance mayor, a bill passed on their behalf , health a safety present, crowd control van, cctv monitoring stations, etc..... compared to other flash mobs.. they were better off performing in a church than on the street...it lost all its flair
It was the most awful performance of that nobly inspiring and uplifting work of musical and poetic art that I have ever listened to. The screeching tone was a tragic parody of what Beethoven intended. Without the full bodied sound of cellos it was painful to hear.

@@arthurrsaker8893 The words of european Anthym are written by Friedrich Schiller, who was a german Poet and a friend of Goethe. Both lived in Weimar and profit from each other.
The original Titel of Schillers poem is "Ode an die Freude".
And Britannia is welcom back in the european family, I hope you come back soon.
