We need more of these acts of 'spontaneous joy in music' in our world. I've see with everyone how it lifts the spirit, evaporates barriers & creates a moment of 'space in everything' allowing all, for one brief momement to ignore differences & almost become one. 😊❤🎉
My hat is off to those who performed this. Very difficult to pull of even in a performance setting much less this flash mob crowd. It brought me back to the time I witnessed the BSO perform the entire Beethoven’s 9th outdoors on the commons on a beautiful summer evening. The playing was spot on and the effect was ethereal. Never to be forgotten.
They actually had to re-record a bit of this afterward. You'll see some of the string players came out of a pub. They'd had a couple too many, and when they tried to play, they were off tempo. There it was, the bottom of the Ninth. The basses were loaded. The score, tied.
Wonderful! I don't know what to praise first. Beethoven, the performance or the setting. I've stood in that very spot numerous times but it was never so lovely. Thank you.
Praise God; Jesus Christ, the Creator of ALL things-including music. Even the words in this song declare His name: "For by Him *all things were created,* both in the heavens *and on earth,* visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities; *all things* have been created *by Him* and for Him" [Col 1 v16] *Truth is a stubborn thing.*
English people, you are no longer in the European Union. Why did you do that? You are like us and we needed you. But you remain Europeans - and that's a good thing. Greetings from Munich/Bavaria
Perhaps there should be a flash mob Ode to Joy every day in London until the horrid Tory government gives up, and a decent coalition takes over, and gets us back into the EU, where we belong. And Von der Leyen needs to quit the EU. Then we can all live in peace and prosperity.

That is a perfect example for beeing a stupid person. germany is one of the greatest export nations in the world. latest example is the vaccine you took against covid 19. i dont know why people like you exist.
Who cares? This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written in ANY language! By a man who was DEAF when he wrote it, hearing each part in his mind!
No disrespect intended, I also hasten to add that I have been a fan of Beethoven for more than 60 years. However, this sounded like a wall full of cats wailing for supper and simultaneously arguing amongst themselves over the choice of entre. You gave it a valiant effort.
@ian sharp BELLY LAUGH OUT LOUD OF THE WEEK AWARD 🏆 😂 I'm exactly the same lol In the shower I'm a, sensation. It's when I get out of the shower that even the backyard cats yell in unison, "Shuddup will ya!"
typical Britain.. im sure they had to get permits from the police, fire service, ambulance mayor, a bill passed on their behalf , health a safety present, crowd control van, cctv monitoring stations, etc..... compared to other flash mobs.. they were better off performing in a church than on the street...it lost all its flair
It was the most awful performance of that nobly inspiring and uplifting work of musical and poetic art that I have ever listened to. The screeching tone was a tragic parody of what Beethoven intended. Without the full bodied sound of cellos it was painful to hear.
What a spitefully infantile thing to say. We have as much right as anyone to the enjoyment of Beethoven's wonderful music and ( I think) Goethe's noble and inspiring words. And who gave you the right to decree who should be allowed that pleasure. Your bigotry encapsulates all that patriotic people of every nationality, detest and abhor. If you and like-minded people imagine that poisonous opinions such as yours will one day make Brits come crawling back to be governed by the European Polit Bureau, you have badly misread the character of the British people. Get a life and grow up Uwe

MUSIC does not have political boundaries! Only art, and emotion! What country, doesn’t matter. Boundaries change. Ruling parties don’t matter. They change often. Governments do not matter. They change. Music is a form of permanent prayer, and the peak of human achievement. Hopefully, when Aliens come down to Earth, they listen to real music, and NOT inane political blathering.
IMO, still the most beautiful piece of music ever written.
That & his MOONLIGHT SONATA. Best ever
This needs to be a common occurrence, bring Joy to the World

Three strings & a bassoon: great start. love the simple sounds.

You certainly took the title to heart, your music is an Ode to Joy in itself. Love it!

A mais bela música de Beethoven

I enjoyed this performance. But, I just can't get over how bundled up everyone is in June. Here in Houston, Texas, it was 35°C on June 7th. :-)
This was probably February, because London gets super hot during summer

We can get all seasons in one day so who knows?! Just be prepared for all eventualities 😊
...and that's how controversial British weather can be as I forgot to say about the fantastic music! Brilliant x

how can I get permission to use this video in a live stream on National Rejoin Day?
hi there - do you want to email us at info@dasharts.org.uk. thank you

Great Britain is more united in Europe as in the United Kingdom itself!
😘😍
This aged like fine wine
Ja!
Were they singing in German?
Yes
@ thx 4 the reply
*sigh* You cheeky buggers
England, sorry that you voted to leave the European Union? Ancient Alien Theorists say YES!
Perhaps there should be a flash mob Ode to Joy every day in London until the horrid Tory government gives up, and a decent coalition takes over, and gets us back into the EU, where we belong. And Von der Leyen needs to quit the EU. Then we can all live in peace and prosperity.
If the British were singing more often that hymn they will probably still belonged in the EU ,
Yay for once the flashmob didn't hack the harmonies and parts
Beautiful. pOignant. Too bad it's no longer the UK's transnational anrthem.
I can see. Nigel farage crying in his office
Poor thing 🤣(it is ironic of course)
Nigel Farage has left the chat.
I hope they have improved since this performance
Beethoven borrowed the main theme from Mozart's Misericordias Domini.
Here we are 29/05/2021 about to exit COVID 19 FREEDOM AT LAST.
If they were to do this today 2024 they would be arrested for rioting
They would not.

Listing to a song sung in German
By the British 😅
According to the text not sung by British cut European citizens though based in Britain...
Good effort, but ours definitely sounds more like a load of carol singers compared to the rest.
Ours?
beutiful but sad to watch. Ode to Joy is the anthem of the EU. But the UK has turned its back on the EU, to its own detriment.
You are gone stay gone , you are welcome to Truss . B

Hats off, but check out the German versions , you got knocked off the park,
When u decided to copy this, you didn't realized the original flashmob has all the sounds perfectly mixed in studio.
But a year later, in a day which made the UK weaker, they left.
one good thing germany produced^^

I am so sorry you guys voted for Brexit.
