I have literally never seen an android tv update

I use fire TV and I'm bombarded with updates every 10 days
I am an Android TV developer and here is the thing, Google main focus is not on revamping the UI but currently focusing on fixing the things behind the scene. There are lot of changes going around at framework end which end user will not even notice. Also in American and European markets there are multiple android tv' vendors which have their on customized UI, bundled with their internet and OTT streaming services. Which users purchase as a bundled package and eventually we also develop the Android updates from older to new Android versions for those markets. In Asian markets for example we can see MI TV with customized UI. Long story short, Google is doing many things behind the scenes (Framework changes) and they know in big markets, big vendors are developing their on UI so they no need to focus on UI and focuses on security and other features.
Even though I don't own an Android tv, that sounds reassuring.
Google believes in "Why to fix something which is not broken" ig.

I bought VU in 2018. Their first Android tv. Not even once they pushed an update. Not even a security patch
I bought an Android TV box from Motorola which came with Android 9. Now I'm on Android 11

I actually switched from AppleTV to Google TV because of the great features like watchlist that the GoogleTV has. And there was a big update yesterday that added a bunch of new consumer features, but I can't find anyone talking about it.
Finally someone made a video about it. I was wondering the same since months. Looks like google doesn't care about their os until they are able to monetise that part of the business. Like they did with their watch os.

I have been using Mi Box 4k for more than 2 years . Facing slowness in bootup and operations , no updates or anything so far . From my experience I won't by any new Android TVs as later it will be a trouble to keep it with it's slow interface and performance. It is better to use Webos or Tizen based TVs for better tv experience and then connect Android TV stick if needed so that these stick can be updated with new ones later.
If Samsung had acquired Android then android would have been more sophisticated with modern design requirements.
If Samsung would have acquired Android then they will be charging Brands so much that they will make a Tyzen OS of their own 💀

I have an apple tv box, but since it is not having the Moonlight game streaming app and full Stremio app, I do not use it that much.

My fire tv stick gets better updates than Android TV, UI also got revamped about twice I guess and the under-the-hood optimisations happen frequently, better than no updates I guess.
I have been using google tv on my sony a80j been a great experience so far but it dosent lag sometime and definately better that android tv
Just had a slight issue with navigating through apps i click too fast on my remove but the tv dosent seem to care and change the menu based on that fast clicks they need to optimize it and a new ui change would be appreciated

One suggestion Team Beebom, the Audio side needs improvement! The Gain levels of the Vocal and the Intro/Outro Music are so unbalanced... :/ Other than that....as usual, fantastic video!

I actually bought Chromecast 4k bcoz i was not getting Android updates on my mi TV and guess what the experience is way smoother and the ui is so cool and everything is great here

The only time my Xiaomi TV Stick 4K update Android TV is when I started it the first time out of the box. Never since then have I ever seen it requests an update.

My greatest gripe about Google TV is why it keep installing apps I don't even use on its own. Eg: Zee5, Mx Player, etc.
I will manually uninstall them, and the next time I check, they will be there again among the installed apps.
❤.but i dont think that andriod 9 have dolby sound settings. It doesn't even have 5.1. digital optical audio
I wish the improvements should be done on performance part and other file format support. I don't bother about design. It's okay though. I mean look Smartphone OS. It's evolved to such great heights that there is only little to improve. TV is always something that you just play back stuff. It's not like a smartphone.

I bought a LG OLED instead of Sony's 65-inch LED just because it had Android TV and not Google TV. Google TV was only present in high-end TV's and it was going out-of-budget. Now he is happy with his LG OLED C1X.
Should have added a tutorial in this video or a link to sideload google tv as well

Android is a massive project under google especially AOSP and there's been some amazing feats for engineering to the AOSP including the near integration of RISC-V. they are still reluctant to update the UI of android TV, because of the way the market for TV operating systems there is no ascensive for an open source free operating system. this brings about Apple TV and Google TV however despite the older design Android TV still reigns supreme on devices likes the Nvidia Shield due to their technical video playing capabilities and hardware acceleration. android as an operating system is very very popular so it makes sense that google can afford to keep the AOSP updated using the help of Chinese companies but the television version will always need an incentive. hopefully google tv will be merged with android tv in some way once google are able as one company having two TV OSs is dumb.
What happened to the 4K UI update?

My sony android tv used to update until they stopped supporting it about 6 years ago , my new tcl tv is running Google 12 and we've just had a update which has corrected a couple of problems one being that when you pressed the information button to find out what the programme your watching is about you couldn't before but you now can after the update plus if you were scrolling through the TV guide to see what was on it would lag so if you stayed on a certain channel while scrolling it would turn over to that channel weather you wanted to or not but after the update its more fluent and a lot smoother and enables you to scroll easily and it doesn't turn over to a channel unless you want it to, so after the update its corrected the problems and issues I had with it , ok on the sony if i wanted to set a schedule timer for a certain programme i had the option to either set a reminder or record it onto a formatted harddrive which i can't do with Google tv oh well it is what it is and you can't have everything, this tcl is a great TV, its a 55inch 4k ultra hdr mini qled tv with Dolby vision and Dolby Atmos and dtsx and hdr ect ect and with my top of the range Amazon fire stick all of that comes into its own so yeah im happy ive just got to figure out what sound bar & sub i want 👍

Hey Beebom, Apple TV is much better because of the processor being used. If google were to improve the responsiveness of their OS, the processor used in the device will not be able to keep up. So that why I think Android TV is so bad and its not entirely Google's fault.
I think... Their point is like .. Google Os for both pixel phones and Google tv... Soon they ll change the pixel phones from Android os to Google os (closed source)...and the rest ll be in Android os (open source)

For users who have used both, which is better software Google TV or Tizen OS? I am to purchase a TV soon and I am mixed opinion between both. Google TV supports lot more apps but in many reviews it's told that Tizen OS is lighter and smoother to navigate.
It you want better support go with Google Tv
Samsung tizen and LG webos are miles ahead of android and has all the essential OTT apps. Adding to this, both tizen & webos are lighter and lag free. You get the best TV experience on Tizen & Webos. Android on TV sucks.
I have a LG TV and an Mi Android box. I've also used Tizen in the past. I never had to use the android box since LG store has all required apps. It didn't have the Jio cinema until the start of the world cup but on the day FIFA world cup started, the app was published in the store.
I have seen both samsung's taizen os and android Tv but honestly i like Android Tv only

I have an Apple TV 4k and Google TV for Chromecast. Apple TV is miles better than Google TV in premium remote and it's touch pad. Google's remote doesn't have a touch pad. Ofcourse there's a lot of cost difference between both. It's so difficult to connect Pixel Buds with Google TV though they are in the same eco system. Apple TV connects to all Airpods so well. No recents on Google TV.
And there is me watching this in Samsung TV

Hey Rupesh, I have a question about using apple tv box, so most of the TVs available in the market are running android and if I want to use apple tv then in that case tv boots up and android starts up then only I can use apple tv which is also not a good experience, so is there any way to use apple tv direclty when tv boots up without using any other OS to run it?
Yes. You can change in setting. Boot with hdmi or av or tv home.

I am using a Telekom tv box with Android TV 10 and there was never any update, not even a single one.
Main difference between Google tv and Android tv is Google Play Store! Which is not available (limited) on Android tv so apps fail to load ! Only solution is to unlock Android tv

they need proper RAM management.. anything but Ram management because one cannot go time and again to force stop random apps and clear cache data every two or three days... Keep everything simple and give a RAM manager App.. thats it.

Because many manufactures want to use their software experience and launcher app for example Xiaomi. Android tv is the base os thus it more focused on underlaying APIs development and functionalities than UI changes.
Google TV is android tv os with Google's software (like pixel os, aosp in the other hand is barebone only focus on API development) that can be accessible if any companies also want to use Google tv launcher and google's apps for example realme does this.
Android tv, wear OS are always lagging a year behind from android for phones due to how those platforms doesn't actually requires many changes and need more robust, bug less OS experience. This wasn't the first time it's happening and I support what is Google doing! Imagine android 12 with bug full state came to android tv or wear OS, it will be disaster. Google took a year of time to fix the OS and provided more robust android 12 for tv/wear OS without those bugs and proper experience anybody would except. We need need newest android version on tv, we need most recent updates with proper features that work without breaking the home experience .
I don't understand why reviewers only focus on version. Google could just called android 12.5 for tv and that would make reviewers think it's 6 month old only lmao.

I actually think the difference is clear. The Android TV is like AOSP. No connections to proprietary servers. Just plain Open source AndroidTV+Google services. Where Google TV is like Pixel's OS. Android TV+Google fancy features.
These fancy features can never be and should never be added to opensource stuff. FOSS software are always free of proprietary software.
