I swapped some old 4runner door panels in my truck. I love them and they're a very easy swap. Pull 3 screws, pop the plastic rivets, and they come off.
Bro so glad I found this. I got a 1993 pickup and I been thinking about modding it since I discovered how crazy the aftermarket actually is for this little truck. I was going to sell it and buy something else but I'm liking the truck alot and it would be a great daily to have some fun with. I'm hoping to do some engine work in the future too, nothing crazy though. I would love to turbo it and just keep it on like 7lbs of boost to get another50-100hp out of it but not sure if I wanna go that route yet. I dont wanna go down the path of modding the internals. But this thing needs like another 50hp and it would be all good. Anyway thanks for these little mod video bro, much help!

If all you are looking for is another 50HP (150HP total), a 3RZ swap is your best bet. It drops in fairly easily with swap mounts and a Tacoma bellhousing. And you get a healthy torque increase as well.
oh shit, i just saw these speaker boxes in a '95 4runner at the junkyard and i assumed all of these pickup/4runner dashes just mount the speakers inside those enclosures, but i just disassembled my Xtracab's dash for the first time to replace my head unit last night and didn't see the boxes, which makes sense now since you're saying the enclosures were a more premium type of deal. i'm about to replace all the blown OEM speakers and now i'm gonna run back to the junkyard to get these boxes if they help with the sound (which my truck certainly needs all the help it can get in the audio department lol). actually just picked up a set of those walmart kicker 4" speakers after seeing your recommendation. also got the kicker 6.5" speakers to see if i can fit them in the side panels in the rear tomorrow!
Man, that's awesome! These boxes made a huge improvement. I had the kickers installed before and all I could get was a lot of treble. The midrange was non-existent!! Throwing those 6.5's in the doors will probably completely change the way it sounds in your cabin. I'd love to get a small bass tube or a sub box in the future, I think that would finish off all the audio I would need! Thanks for commenting, I'd like to see how you mount the 6.5's. Just to touch base on this, I ended up getting those 4Runner front speaker boxes the next day and installed them with the kicker 4" speakers, and the sound is very impressive! Also got the 6.5's installed as well, but since my '94 pickup is an Xtracab, they basically just bolted right where the old rear speakers were -- in the side walls of the rear cabin area, underneath the side rear windows. I went from a single "working" speaker that was godawful rotted out to 4 new ones in nice enclosures, so needless to say, this sounds a helluva lot better! haha Oh and for anyone that's interested, I believe Walmart is no longer carrying these speakers as of this time of writing this (early December 2015), but when I went to buy my set, they had the remaining stock on clearance for super cheap (bought the 6.5's at my nearest Walmart but had to go to the second nearest location that had a couple of the 4" Kickers remaining). It was only $18 a set!

I realize this is an old video, but I just did this mod, well in the middle of doing it, and I can't get passenger side of dash back in place. The pod is hitting a dash bracket. Am I missing something out do I need to alter that bracket?
Man, that's lame they didn't all come with those. I would totally install those on my 1992 Toyota Pickup and give them a shot. Are they still only sized for the 4" speakers? I've thought about trying to cut into the doors and install 6" speakers.

Although these speaker boxes seem like a good idea, be aware that many modern four inch speakers won’t fit in them. They are made for very shallow speakers with small magnets. Anything higher end is unlikely to fit. Believe me, I tried.
Hey man, these install videos are great! I've been looking into getting an 89-95 pickup, is there anything you'd recommend I'd look out for when looking at them and test driving them?
Not really, these trucks are pretty tough! You'll encounter some that probably have a lot of miles but these are known for lasting a long time if the usual care is taken of them. Just look for the normal wear and tear on the normal things, ask about maintenance and see if the previous owner has any receipts of work done or maybe a log of all the work he has performed. I keep logs of all the maintenance I do on my own personal vehicles and maybe you'll get lucky and find someone who does the same. Good luck searching!

Hey John, did you notice a significant improvement in audio quality with box installation vs no box? I just installed new 4" speakers into my '94 and the audio is lacking depth. Wondering if a speaker box mod results in better sound. I have an xtra cab but no rear speakers so next steps is to get rears installed but want to max out the 4" first. Thanks!
Thanks John. Boxes arrive tomorrow. One doesn't have installed plastic wire connectors so will have to figure that but shouldn't be too hard. Figure I'll just run wire from car to speaker through box. Maybe drill a small hole if necessary?
Great videos on the mods you can do to these trucks. I've done the instrument cluster, and rear view mirror. Since I need a new one anyway, could I replace my wiper switch with one from a 4runner with the variable timing?
You can do this and it is plug and play! The challenge is the 4runner switch has the option to use the back wipers which annoys me. If you find a 1989-1994 pickup with the intermittent feature, it will come without the back wipers option, just harder to come by!

you must have a different model then me I didn't have the holes on the driver side and had to remove a bracket on the passenger side. other than that it sounds awesome!
If I have time sometime soon, I'll take a look and see how they are changed. You'll need to remove the lower dash pieces and I bet they have small bulbs which spin out.
The hvac light? I don't remember how much of the dash is really in the way of it but Take off the knobs for the levers, the face plate in front of the light, and the light spreader(clear plastic behind the cover).

I installed a new head unit onto my 91 pickup and now don’t have sound from the rear speakers. I have read how they have their own rear amps and need to wired up different at the head unit. Any suggestions?
Thanks GBH, if for some reason someone else hops on here with the same issue, I wired the blue/white wire(remote amp) from the head unit to the blue(power antenna) of the cars harness. It all works now. ✌️😆

I am thinking of swapping the front bench with 2 seats and the 4Runner center console…

Under dash 4in, door panels you can fit 6 or 6x9 with spacers, but get the vent window so it doesnt hit glasd

Reynal There's a noticeable difference with the boxes. They provide more depth and a fuller sound. you'll definitely like the difference!

The box is small. I don't think the larger speaker will fit into that box. You might be able to mount them in there.

excellent.. i got a clean set...just gathering all the other stuff to do everything all at once: gauge cluster, led's, oil pressure sending unit, clock.. have gauges, speakers and boxes.. youve got some solid videos explaining this stuff man...thanks

I got mine off the same 4runner from the junkyard. It was a v6 model too.
I still don't understand why people cut the door panels...
