In this video I review the BenQ SW270c Photographer Monitor. Some of my favorite features: - Power through USB-C - HDR Picture Quality - AQCOLOR Technology - 2 USB Ports and SD Card Slot **One thing I failed to mention in the video is that if you hook the monitor up to your laptop via the "display port through USB" or to your MacBook with the Thunderbolt 3 cable, the monitor will supply power to and charge your Laptop/MacBook via that single cable. PLEASE NOTE: BenQ did not pay me to do this video but they did give me the monitor for free. You are right about the 4K monitors. I built a PC last year, and decided to buy a BenQ 4K monitor. I had to force it into the 2K mode so I could read the menus
That’s bizarre to me, because an iMac will use Pixel doubling to make their 5K similar scale to that of a QHD display and you should be able to do that as well. However, I loved seeing the full image for sharpening purposes on the 5K displays.
Thank you Thank you Thank you Anthony... Last week I bought the Sony A/7/3. [ goodbye to my A6000].. My next goal is a monitor to make editing all the better.. You have shown me exactly what to buy.... Great ideas come from Great People.. Thank you for your teaching skills and Committment... Neville J...
A night mine straight from BenQ last year. It was refurbished. I think it must have been an open box return item. It didn't look like it has ever been used and the cables were still in unopened bags. I paid nearly half price of a new one. I think mine is the previous model, SW2700PT. So far I love mine. From my understand from my research, you base the resolution on the screen size. 1080 is good for anything below 24". 2k is better for 24" to 29". 4k for 32"and above. I think it's because the larger the screen the larger the pixels.
ted ted is correct. Here's another hidden LR/PS feature. You CAN change the font size so that they are much easier to read on 4K monitors and it increases the slider sizes too. Thanks ted.
How ironic, I just viewed a review on the 4K BenQ monitor of the same dimensions before I watched this one this morning . Your review of the 2k versions was spot on. Thanks !
A great review Anthony thank you (& subscribed) I've only ever used a laptop but have been thinking of buying an external monitor for my photo processing. I am not to say the least very technically minded, does this monitor work straight from the box or does it require any setting up ? Many thanks
@@21ftclean You can basically change the resolution displayed on the 4k monitor with your computer operating system so that it will display as a 2k which in my opinion makes it read and display at a much more comfortable size. I honestly don't see the point of 4k for photo editing. But, to each his/her own.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Since this review was published, have you had the chance to use a 4K monitor? I will be in the market for a new monitor soon and given that camera sensors now record images well over 4K I am hesitant to buy anything less than a 4K screen.
I really enjoyed this review when you published it a year ago, but at that time, I wasn't looking into monitors. Fast forward to November 2020 and now I am looking to replace my screen - and this model really is tempting. I was wondering if you might do a 'long term review' of it at some point. Keep up the great videos, Anthony! Cheers.
Lots of understandable info. Thank you. Ready to purchase a PC and the BenQ Sw270c. Any suggestions on video cards? Will be using the set-up 90% for LR/PS.
please compare the 4k with it. Ive hear its not actually 2k but 1440p . I actually got this instead of the 4k but would ike to see what you think of the both. great review IVE SUBSCRIBED
Good video, thank you very much. You mentioned about using this monitor with a MacBook. Do you not find that you are continually moving your head from MacBook to monitor and back, assuming the MacBook is to one side.
One point about the SW270C - it does not work as expected with the new M1 MacBook Pro's. You can get a decent picture via HDMI but the USB-C thunderbolt connection does not work and you cannot calibrate the monitor without it. Very disappointing.
Ahhh. Same problem with the Macbook Pro M1 Max? I was just about to order this monitor - need to hold off till I get this question sorted. Thanks for posting this. EDIT: I saw on another well respected you tube review channel that there was an issue in the past but it has been fixed?? Not sure.
How would you assess the recently released mac Studio Display as a monitor for making color and B&W prints? What features are most useful for those of us who can make prints using either a Studio Display or, say, a BenQ SW321C?
hello, nice review. i had heard benq is not repetitive in production and you could have a poor one when you order. correct ? what about eizo cs2730 comparison (quality, price) ?
Marc, each monitor is analysed at the factory and delivered with a report that guarantees its repeatability and QA for each individual monitor. It has only gotten better with the SW270C and more recently the SW321C with Uniformity technology. This helps for overall screen uniformity, and beyond with multiple monitor set ups. It is measurable, and appearance corrected on real sites.
I have the BenQ EW3270u 32" 4K monitor and it's incredibly cheap but has amazing image quality. However, it does not come with any of the conveniences of hardware calibation nor hockeypuck controls. However it does have a VA panel that can display true 10bit colour. Maybe you could compare it to the SW270C? Be warned that there is the EL2870u 28" "little brother" of the monitor and that is not a good choice.
Great review Anthony. My issue with 4K monitors is the size of the text in PhotoShop and Lightroom - it is too small for my old eyes to read. My wife just bought a 2K monitor after watching this video - not this BenQ, but a slightly less expensive one. The PS/LR text is still readable for me, but just. I am not aware of any way to adjust the text size in PS/LR, maybe Adobe will include that possibility in future updates? Thanks again for all your tutorials
Hi Anthony -- I've been using the older SW271 4K and I love it. It offers plenty of connectivity options, but not all of those you've got on this newer model. I use a Loupedeck with it so seldom have issues with small sliders, etc. I'd really like to see your comparison between the BenQ SW270c and the SW271 if you get a chance.
The peripheral connectivity is a minor selling point, what wasn't noted was that hook up choice decides whether you get the benefit of 10 bit color. This monitor uses HDMI v1.4 so you will be restricted to 8 bit using HDMI :)
Wish they'd made monitors for photographers that are 42" or larger so that I could replace my TV with it. Only use for my TV nowadays is to work as a PC monitor.
what do you think of this compare to the BenQ SW321C ?? New 32 inch/. I wish they had small bezels on the 32 and USBC to 100W for the new MacBook pro16inch. but otherwise do you think the 32 size is better?
The built in sd card reader does not show up when i check it in the device manager and when i insert the sd card, nothing shows up. Any fix to this issue.
They are measured and corrected at the factory. Calibrating the monitors are correcting for individual Video Card outputs which may have a different signal from each computer beat portable or desktop.

I believe i'm correct in saying that the screen shade has hinging built in to allow it to be used in Portrait mode as well as landscape
I have a BenQ 32" 4k and my sliders and picture is not small at all.
I just commented to ask Anthony to maybe do a review of the ew3270u cos it's really affordable for the image quality and size.
With 4K monitors you'll likely want to use scaling which changes icons and text sizes.
@@NeilSnapePhotography what do you mean by scaling?!

I do believe you can go into the preferences of LR, PS & change the text size. I imagine if the loupe deck works so would the Wacom tablet.
is this true 10bit or 8bit+frc ?
not true
Can 270c take a monitor stand? Do u know ?
