I adore their company and mission.
I coincidentally just ordered a Yellow Tang from them, this afternoon.
It's unfortunate, but the trajectory of our natural reef's is not a positive one. Any pressure we can remove is beneficial, including reductions in fish capture and harvesting.
Not only are aquacultured fish more sustainable, these animals simply make easier pets. For my own fish, the tank-raised eat a wider variety of foods, seem less prone to disease, and are simply more at ease in an aquarium environment.
Biota is the first stop I make when looking for a fish. If they don't offer one, then I look elsewhere.
On an aside note, I'm hoping one day they tackle the Copperband Butterfly. Due to the extreme beauty, utilitarian use with common pests, and the severe loss in captured Copperband survival rates.

This video was very, very insightful. I have one of their Coral Beatuies (which is suffering a bit of color loss above it’s eyes. Would love to know how to fix) and aside from my mistakes this fish is FLAWLESS!!!
I really enjoyed this video and I will be quite frank here. I really get the impression that this guy is the real deal. He is passionate and knowledgeable. So many people in this hobby are so full of $#!+ it is very refreshing to see someone who is in it because they love it.
I will be purchasing more of your fish very soon sir. I never thought I would live to see the day when I had an angelfish in my tank that has never seen the ocean yet here I am. Dont be concerned that others are outpacing you with angels. We need captive bred tangs with low artifacts. I am looking forward to the future just hope I stay here to see it.
    👍👍

There is definitely a big difference and often a very positive one when it comes to captive bred and raised. I think we will see more and more of that in the hobby as time goes on.

It's like a closed loop system... they'll only supply large chains, who in turn only raise the price until the industry realises its losing money so they drop the price on their animals again making Biota animals seem ridiculously pricey... as a hobbyist, seeing this go on and on over again is sickening.

Don't be naive. They need to make a profit in order to keep the lights on. They don't sell to individuals because it would take a lot more people to take orders, process them, deal with shipping them and then hear all the complaints and claims of DOA. They bred the yellow tang, which was long thought as impossible. I believe they can charge a little for their hard work and success.

Naive? I truly understand the game but..... Who said anything about induviduals? I know of a few lfs that had their orders cancelled or delayed so the wholesaler could be supplied first. I get it, but theyre not doing themselves any favours when 1 large store gets all the fish while the 385 little ones have to wait for the big fish (pardon the pun) to be looked after. Im actually trying to stick up for Biota here.... 🙈
