    I just stumbled into you and I love it!
    You have such a lovely voice. I love your style - it speaks to me and encourages me to continue my art journey. I found you while looking for studio organization and inspiration. My space is a war zone and my children often go in and destroy my work or supplies. It's put me into a terrible mindset, because it's more of a challenge to make art than a joy. I plan to rip the room apart this weekend and completely redo it so I have a peaceful place to do something I love.

      I’m so happy that you stumbled upon me! I also have small kids, five-year-old twin fraternal boys. I totally understand. I have basically designated my studio space as a twin free zone (unless I’m in there with them), but I know that doesn’t work for all families. I hope you have a great deal of fun setting up your creative sanctuary for yourself, I’m excited for your journey to progress!

    Thanks for this, Marianne. I did my own version of the lily-of-the-valley painting because I thought the style would suit my home, and I could do a flower series in this style. I then did one of hollyhocks, since they are in my garden and I just love them. The poppies are just stunning, and so perfectly in time for Remembrance Day! I am going to do a third one for my series, but haven't decided what flower I will choose next, but I really enjoyed trying this process, and the old-style gilded look of the background on these!

      I absolutely love that you’re using this style to decorate your home, that sounds fabulous!!!! I bet the hollyhocks are gorgeous. If you wanted to share them, I would love to see them, are you a member of my Art Incubator Facebook group?

      @MarianneVanderDussen I think I am part of your FB group (I've had a lot going on this summer)! The hollyhocks aren't quite finished, but I will post them when done. I used photos of my own flowers for the painting. Yes, it is a nice change to actually be painting something specifically for my own home! Never done that before, but I loved the antique-look background. And who doesn't love lily-of-the-valley? 😊

    How long does it take for the pages to dry before you can close the book? And do you find you need to varnish the pages eventually? I’m just getting started with (water miscible) oil paints, and soaking up all the information I can! But I love sketchbooks so I’m hoping to combine oils into sketchbooks, but the drying time is still a mystery to me! Any tips on that?

    • @MarianneVanderDussen
      @MarianneVanderDussen  3 месяца назад

      Hi! So I don't varnish the pages, but it's something I'd be interested in testing out in the future! It doesn't actually take me that long to close the pages, I usually paint in thin layers and use a hint of liquin to speed up the process. Depending on what colours I'm using, it usually only takes a few days until I can close the pages. If I'm using colours like yellows (which take FOREVER to dry) it might take a little longer.

    You should make these a monthly Patreon tutorials, one for botanicals and the other for birds, etc. I would def join! Just a thought!

    • @MarianneVanderDussen
      @MarianneVanderDussen  8 месяцев назад +1

      That’s a great suggestion! I’ve stayed off of Patreon until now, because my output has been pretty inconsistent due to the fact that I have small kids. If one of them gets sick (which is often), it delays everything and then that snowballs. Once I develop my course library further, and I’m planning on doing a series of courses on sketchbooks, I’ll definitely be looking at subscriptions!

    • @AshB_Watercolors
      @AshB_Watercolors 7 месяцев назад +1

      Yay for the sketchbooks! I’m working on one now except I usually do not work ink pen. Well I used a fountain pen that when I put water on it bled everywhere! lol! So I sprayed it with a workable fixative and we will see if it continues to do that. If so oh well! I learn from my mistakes and bought a uni ball signo!
      But yes I find these sketchbook a nice break from my other pieces I am working on!

    • @MarianneVanderDussen
      @MarianneVanderDussen  7 месяцев назад

      @@AshB_Watercolors Oh no!!! I hope the fixative works, and I love the oh well attitude! You'll love the signo, it's been such a treat for me.

    There are really no "best" sketchbooks. It all depends on your purpose. If you need coarse textures because of the desired effect, coarse texture paper it is.
