I love the comparisons! Dinner at home or going out was great. Warning: big mutter. I've been torn on my next motorcycle purchase and one factor has to do with the seriousness, for lack of a better description, of the bike. You can say my ego. I'm a rare breed in the US since I choose to own a motorcycle over a car for transportation purposes. My wife was a stay at home mom while raising our kids, had the family car and in order for us to do that we had to cut cost as much as possible. I usually got reasonably priced and sensible Japanese motorcycles. Now the kids are grown and part of me wants to get a "more serious and respectable" bike. Something like a Triumph, Moto Guzzi, BMW or Harley Davidson. Part of it is build quality and the feeling the bike gives you, but another part of it is the image it portrays to others. It's hard to explain what I mean I guess. We started our family young and never were able to splurge on things like that, so that could be part of it along with a chronic disease that may end my riding life sooner then later. Ultimately the experience the bike gives wins and the experience of riding is one of the life decisions I will never forget or regret!
My personal take on the comparison (after having ridden both) is that I'd be perfectly happy with the RE interceptor as a Sunday afternoon toy/2nd bike, Its a lovely bike well made, looks stunning and is great value for your cash. IF (and it's a big IF) If I hadn't ridden the Bonneville first... (Caveat I own a 2020 Bonneville T120 and you really can see where the extra few £1000 has been spent). (As AYM knows I also own a new RE Classic 350 which I absolutely adore so it's not an anti RE thing!).
Just passed my test last month and was all set to get an RE - was hoping the classic fit the bill since I love the look. But then I got to try a bunch of bikes over a test weekend thing - moto guzzi v7 , interceptor , classic 350, Bonneville t120 and even though I loved the feel and sound of the classic it was the Bonneville that felt like home. Thing is I would love to have the classic as a second bike but I know I would have missed the larger bike feel and power if I hadn’t bought my t100
Thanks for the thoughts on those two great bikes. I recently changed my bike from a sporty Kwak Ninja 650 to the Z650RS and I love it. At 187 kilos (but feels lighter) it really works for me and still gives me that feeling of riding a heritage, classic, retro-type steed. This bike should see me out so is a keeper. I think Kawasaki got it pretty right and I believe it stacks up pretty well against the more traditional neo-classics. Cheers Popeye.
I love the approach of coming up with weird, but somehow strangely appropriate comparisons ... Interceptor and T100, it's like comparing a Gregg's sausage role with a Waitrose scotch egg ...
