The 'fake slide' is no longer allowed b/c its not fair to the defense. The QB is considered down as soon as he starts a slide whether he completes the slide or not.
It's kind of an unwritten rule that QB's don't do a fake slide. Basically because of the rules about hitting QB's it's kind of seen as unsportsman like and kind of a "cheap" play to fake slide.
The Boise St "statue of liberty" play was the best because they were the first smaller school to win one of the big bowl games. It was one of the best college football games ever played.
Never thought of it that way. Do you think his action was enough to warrant a slide? Looked more to me like a slight motion but obviously to look like a slide.
@@officeblokedaz After the game they interviewed him and he said he didn’t mean to “fake” the slide. He just went to slide and changed his mind after he saw green grass to the side and saw the defenders begin to stop. He wasn’t trying to be deceitful or anything. Basically it was unfair because the defenders cannot tackle a QB after he begins to slide, or it will be a 15-yard penalty (and possible ejection if there is contact to the head or neck area). Glad they cleaned up the rules to make it so the QB is down at the spot he begins to slide.
@@officeblokedazThe QB has to respect the defense by not faking a slide, because if the rule didn’t exist there would be a massive amount of star quarterbacks taking massive head injuries. As someone who played defense when I played football, if you fake slide once, why should I trust that you’re not going to fake it when you slide the 2nd time. That’s just going to result in the defender pre-determining their hit which would result in lots of unsafe play. Just like the original commenter said, exploiting a rule meant to keep you safe is no good, because it leads to you getting your head blown off when you try it again.
Nothing remotely dirty about a fake slide. Dirty, really, dirty? Who was injured, exactly? It was a clever move that exploited a hole in the rules. How different is that from acting like you are going out of bounds and then at the last minute cutting back away for an extra gain--which we see RBs and receivers do fairly frequently. Dirty? Geez--we have a COMPLETELY different definition of dirty where I come from. Sheesh.
Pickett is the starting QB for the Steelers--still literally just is his rookie full first season, and was injured yesterday. Lots of running by him as the O-line for Pittsburgh is one of the worst in the league (if not the worst)--so he runs for his life.
Taunting is bush league where I come from--low rent, low class, diminishes the sport and the game and tells everyone, who wasn't sure before the taunt, that you're an asshole--and you'd better keep your head on a swivel the rest the game (and your career) as justice will arrive sooner or later. One of the best rules on college. Celebrate all you want, taunt at your own risk. We don't even care if we win the damned game as long as the taunter is laid out (see Vonteze Burfict for the end result).
The first one is why the quarterback should be free game to hit or that if a quarterback starts the slide the plays dead. Its a cheat code for the nanny state quarterbacks football has today.
Back off the hit, yes, but not back off the play entirely as he did. He wasn’t going for the hit either he was standing completely straight like 5 yards away. His own coach said it was his defenders fault for holding up and was smart by Pickett. You’re taught to down the runner even when they slide by literally tapping them when they’re down to ensure they’re down. You’re taught that in grade school all the way to the pros. Defender made a dumb decision and Pickett capitalized on it in a split second. Completely within the rules at the time as well.
1:35 when someone fools the cameraman too, it's a good fake lmao also cool to read these comments, didn't think of how the 'fake slide' play was dirty but totally makes sense after I see it explained
It wasnt a fake slide. Ppl cried like fucking babies so they made a rule but the Pitt QB simply thought about sliding but saw he had more room so changed his mind and kept running. There was no deceptive planning there. Ppl are just idiots…🤷♂️
there can not be morons in here trying to say picket's fake slide wasn't a dirty play lmao. he should have gotten his head taken off for that, by far the most protected position and he's abusing it. was made a rule within a year for a reason. clear as day he did it purposefully too, watch how much rubber comes up from his foot and his movement, nobody changes direction like that.
No, this is incorrect. The touchdown was taken away because the taunting occurred prior to scoring, not after. LSU was given the ball at the 23 yard line, 1st & 10. LSU ended up kicking a field goal but still won 41-11 in the end.

That was indeed Travis Kelce

Well, they made it a written rule the year after Pickett did it
Never seen this before
He would get hit late after doing something like that 😂
written rule lol
@@JoeyVatavukit wasn’t for a while, Pickett made it a rule recently

Round my way its one of the worst bowl games lol
That fake slide is dirty. He's gonna cause some other QB to get their head taken off. Exploiting rule meant to keep you safe is no good.
They made it a rule the following year that if you begin to slide you are down at that spot, even if you don’t end up sliding.

Pickett is the QB for the Steelers now and Richardson is the qb for the Colts
You gotta watch week 3 winner and losers by that’s good sports, it great
the fake slide by pickett was bs. happy they made it a rule that u cant do that. dbs already deal with too many bs calls.
Except it wasnt a fake slide. Its a simple mind change in .3 seconds. Common sense…
@@btnhstillfire Wait until you find out what a fake is in the world of sports. Your little mind will be blown.
These plays are why I love football. College football is great.
Love some high jinx once in a while. Makes things so exciting.
Yes Pickett is with the steelers
fake slide is like faking surrender and then pulling out a grenade 😂😂😂
Check out the Little League World Series Finals highlights
Ian Johnson, the Boise St player also proposed to his GF cheerleader the moment he scored the game winning TD
Holy shit my team got a positive clip in one of these! Those Shrader fake hand off's were just 2 weeks ago lol.

They still get the touchdown after the celebration flag
6:40 one of the greatest college games of all time
11:03 That indeed was Travis Kelce (Now Kansas City Tight End). Glad that man got his speed up in the league 😂
Ummm, you’re not referring to the slo mo are you? Cuz that looked plenty fast to me lol
Both punters on the fake punts are now on the steelers
The first play resulted in fake slides being banned within a month of that game.
That Boise state Oklahoma game would be a great game for you guys to react to
You should react Chad Johnson Micd up moments !!!
Hands down one of the best personalities in NFL history !!!!
That was Travis Kelce him and Jason went to Cincinnati
Those were cool to watch !
That fake slide, in particular, is now penalized...and rightfully so.....some QB is gonna get annihilated if that's allowed to continue
Fake slide isn't allowed anymore because of that play

It was made a rule literally called The Pickett Rule like 2 months after that game when the season ended because of that play
The first play shouldn't be allowed. Faking giving yourself up requires the defender to back off the hit by rule in advance of a moment of contact.

That new rules sucks...... When did football players become so sensitive?
@5:40 No they got the touchdown on the taunting penalty. It would just be 15 yards after the next kickoff .
