Does Quran mention Big Bang Theory?
    The short answer is NO.
However, I will try my best to explain in detail why it’s a no. Let us consider the excerpts from the Qur’an that are often used to make that claim.
    Qur’an 21:30
“Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?”
There is a long list of problems with what the verses says there and assuming that it’s talking about the Big Bang. Let me explain myself:
Subjective interpretation: You can assume the words mean what you can’t ever prove that they mean. For example, what does “heaven” refer to? Is it Space? Space-Time? Is it Space with matter in it? What does “earth” refer to? The planet earth? Just soil? Land? ANY matter?
The earth or anything that we can refer to as “earth” didn’t exist back then when the universe started to expand from a singularity (Big Bang).
I’ve been asked to interpret “heaven” as space and “earth” as matter by many Muslims. However, that really doesn’t solve the problem. That’s because of the fact that space and matter didn’t separate when the Big Bang happened. What happened was that matter emerged INSIDE the space-time continuum. NO separation ever took place. You and I, also the earth or any matter, we all exist within and inside this heaven/space/space-time.
The subsequent verses after verse 30 actually refutes the idea that “earth” refers to some kind of matter that came into being during the Big Bang. Let us see the subsequent verses in context:
    Qur’an 21:30-32
“Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?” And We placed within the earth firmly set mountains, lest it should shift with them, and We made therein [mountain] passes [as] roads that they might be guided. And We made the sky a protected ceiling, but they, from its signs, are turning away.”
So in context, we see that the Qur’an is referring to the planet earth, not some vague notion of matter 14 billion years ago. Unless of course those Muslims want us to assume that Mountains on earth existed 14 billion years ago when matter began forming.
Let us also consider the Ancient Sumerian creation myths that we can date to at least about a 1000 years before Muhammad.
The translation of the Song of the hoe from the above tablet:
"Not only did the lord make the world appear in its correct form, the lord who never changes the destinies which he determines - Enlil - who will make the human seed of the Land come forth from the earth - and not only did he hasten to separate heaven from earth, and hasten to separate earth from heaven, but, in order to make it possible for humans to grow in "where flesh came forth" [the name of a cosmic location], he first raised the axis of the world at Dur-an-ki.”
So this type of creation myth involving separating heaven from earth were very primitive and ancient EVEN TO MUHAMMAD. Why in the world would I then go into all the trouble of assuming so many things and ignoring so many things and concluding that Muhammad was talking about the Big Bang? It can be easily seen that he was talking about creation myths that even to the Arabs of the time was almost a millennium old!

Ambiguous words are like a blank check: they can mean whatever you want to mean. So no.
However, let’s say it does. Let’s say that the Quran does speak about the Big Bang in the verses indicated by Talal Al-Kayak in his answer. Great! This is a strong proof that the Quran is inspired by Allah, Allah is the creator of everything and Islam is the true religion. Finally, all the world has a reason to convert to Islam! Victory! You are right, they were wrong!
    But, hold on a second…
What happens if tomorrow scientists discover that the Big Bang theory is all wrong? Because, as far as I remember, there have been countless scientific theories in the past that were proved wrong later. Suddenly the Quran is wrong as well? Orrrrr… let me guess: the Quran still stands; the only problem is that we don’t know how to interpret it.
Well, if this is how things work around here, was any scientific discovery/theory made based on the interpretation of the Quran? No! So, what in the world are we talking about here? If that book produces nothing by its own, but it is interpreted in one way or another depending on the scientific progress, then that book is good only to feed the fire. I saw questions and answers about the Quran and dark energy, dark matter, anti-matter… you name it! It seems that the holy texts are an infinite source of knowledge, but only after scientists (mostly atheists who reject god) discover it, test it and confirm it.
    Best.
