    Here it is! A NSX… I’m glad I drove it and I don’t really have the desire to drive it again. Keep in mind most of my interest here is with drivetrain and braking technology and tuning. It’s an old car! Would love to see what it’s like with today’s tech.
    It’s soft, and vague, and daily friendly and certainly doesn’t have the edge that modern tactile cars require but comparing it to many of the EVs that I drive, it’s actually more fun than I thought reading the reviews!
    Would have loved to have it on some more engaging roads, I’m sure more shortcomings would have come up then, but it was a fun day and I’m glad to have the opportunity to test this thing.

    Just so you know Kyle, the NSX will not downshift from 2 to 1 unless you are going very slowly or stoped.1st gear is really only for launch from a stop. Honda made a strange decision for the NSX DTC transmission with 2nd to 9th gears on synchros with shift forks. BUT For 1st gear, the gear is on a one way clutch (sprag) instead of a shift fork. This is why you can not do a 2 to 1 downshift at speed. Also if you lift and coast in 1st gear, it will automatically up shift to 2nd gear even in manual mode. The gearbox will not allow you to coast in first gear because of the nature of the one way clutch. But like you said, you don’t need first gear when rolling. There is enough torque in 2nd gear, even at low RPM, to satisfy even the tightest switchback hairpin corners for your enjoyment.

    • @ericcindycrowder7482
      @ericcindycrowder7482 4 месяца назад +7

      Honda said they used a one way clutch to save weight, because it’s lighter and less complicated than having another shift fork and synchronizer on first gear. In my opinion, they should have going the Ferrari route with the SF90, and not having reverse gear in the gearbox. The Ferrari uses the front axle MGU for reverse and doesn’t have a reverse gear in the gearbox. Honda could have left the reverse gear out entirely but they choose to keep it in, thus making the DTC heavier and more complicated than it needed to be.

      I'm not so sure about that. So, in my mom's 2013 Acura TL, when in manual mode, it will auto upshift out of 1st and won't allow downshift into first unless I'm on the throttle which is identical behavior to this NSX here.

    They made a MDX hybrid with the same battery and motors from this car, but they put a smaller engine. Always thought this drivetrain in a MDX would be an absolute riot. That would be a proper type S

    You are a very good presenter and I hope you will continue to do performance car reviews. Porsches are my personal favorite (I really liked the Cayman GTS videos and am waiting anxiously for delivery of mine) but all sports cars, and especially ones that rely on emotion more than tech or outright pace, deserve more time now that they are becoming a thing of the past. Please keep it up.

    For the money, I think Nissan GTR is far better deal, far better retaining value car, far better flexibiliity and potential of upgrading, etc. overall far better... and it comes at the 50-60k cheaper price...

    • @HardParking
      @HardParking 4 месяца назад +1

      Not sure where you get your “better retaining value” from but I guess it all depends on what you want to do to your car for mods etc. It’s no secret the GTR is a beast , and a giant beast when modded. But being a far better deal and whatever else you said is pure opinion.

    • @skg5
      @skg5 4 месяца назад

      Performance wise GTR is better bang for buck. Value retention we will have to wait and see. But I think u may be wrong overtime.

      There were only 2800 NSX made. That's much rarer than GTRs. Also, the GTR design and engineering is a decade older than the NSX. I test drove two GTRs before buying my NSX. The deciding factors were refinement and ride quality. Plus, the GTR only has 6 gears, and i hate turbo lag. For a little more money, the NSX looks and handles like a supercar and is as fast as most exotics. The GTR to me felt like a sport grand touring sedan with an outdated transmission and poor ride quality.

    An immense amount of engineering went into this vehicle so that from the driver’s point of view it would just work. For instance the body structure is mostly cast and extruded aluminum for light weight, but the A-Pillar was boron steel bent, twisted and quenched into martensite all in a few seconds to the final shape so that sight lines wouldn’t be compromised by a thicker A Pillar that an all aluminum solution would have produced.

    The thing that surprises me about sports cars is how small some of them are. They look big in the photos but when you see one in real life it just seems tiny. NSX old and new, Audi R8, even a lambo just looks small.

    saweet, while waiting on the "forever list" for his C8 Z06 order, my bud has recently picked up a mint used NSX (fitted with the Carbon Ceramics) and says he wishes he'd bought one sooner, he LOVES it...
    the sad irony though here in the Northeast with this being a Hybrid is that it's BANNED from my local racetrack (NJMP) due to the Li-ion Battery Fire problem...
    yup the NSX, the 918, McLaren's P1, and the La Ferrari are all banned, this includes the latest Corvette E-Ray, F296 GTB, and the McLaren Artura...
    "NO RACE TRACK FOR YOU...!!!" 😮

    There is a total disconnect between the interior and exterior, the hideous interior looks like a 2002 Honda Jazz with shiny plastic, it has that cab / taxi interior. The exterior looks good but across the pond this Honda is a total flop, nobody bought this Honda and rightly so because it does not evoke emotion like European super cars. A missed opportunity for Honda!

    This sports car deserved to fail and the lessons need to be understood: Pigs cannot fly. So please no 4wd, no turbos, no 500+ HP, no plug in hybrids.
    Make small, light, high revving, naturally aspirated inline 5 or 6 cylinder engine with the lightest hybrid systems you can add to pass regulations.

      You're writing off basically the entire sports car market and that's just such a ludicrous take. Are you going to pretend the Aflac Romeo 4C with its custom turbo 4 and carbon fiber tub, or Ferrari F355, 360, F430, etc. with their NA V8s are not sports cars because they don't meet your insane engine demands? Nuts.

    I remember driving one of these when they came out. I had a 911 and stayed with Porsche. Exactly as others have said, it’s a nice car but not a sports car. Just not enough emotion…

      Its a sports cars one of the best hybrid sports cars of its day.
      He showed a l8
      it if emotion cornering it.
      What IT does not have is a Europe snob badge, premium Interior or tech, manual and clutch, 1st gear programming, and maybe a little more speed 0_60 in 2.6 to 3.0 seconds 190 + top speed can be done by basically any dual motor EV now without the sound and shifting engagement or soul.

    • @findtomdotcom
      @findtomdotcom 4 месяца назад

      @@Tigerex966 sorry mate but it just wasn’t good enough. It cost more than a 911 and yet wasn’t any faster or better. I actually wanted to like it having loved the old NSX. I am a massive tech guy so had really wanted one. But there are so many issues with it at and there were better cars at its price point. This is why they were never a sales success.
