- Full History of the LEGIO VIIII "Hispana":
One of Caesar's oldest and most experienced Legions that played a big role in immortalizing him through History with numerous victories. It played a big role in both Civil Wars and was an important building block in transitioning Rome into one of the biggest Empires of History. The 9th was a building block for other Legions too, as Caesar was known to spread their skill by transferring veteran Centurions into other Legions, such as his favored 10th "Equestris".
This Legion played a role in securing almost every major Roman Province: Gaul, Hispania, Britannia, Africa; silencing threatening revolts in each one. It would then come to a very mysterious end; never being spoken of or mentioned again...

The famous 10th Equestris is next guys, going to be my best video yet! The research is taking a lot of time, but it will be worth the wait!
Let me know what Legions you would like to me to cover next.
Thank you for sharing Sir.lupus paulo
👍Great video, why not all legions?!
@@henkstersmacro-world I'll definitely do all the legions, but I was asking which order my subscribers would want me to make them, since each video takes a lot of time to make.
XI Claudia (Sammintie Legion} 500yr pls History That never Tasted defeat from time J,Ceasar in Gaul from Rhine to Black Sea . And the only Roman Legion Allowed to have shield painted blue and symbols of Neptune of the trident and dolphin no other legion was allowed ever to have anything but Red and symbols of Jupitar eagle wings and Lightning bolts (anything show legion in different colors is not historical). It was award such Honor By J. Ceasar at battle of alesia ..
VIIII? Really should it not be IX?
Where is the proof for that weird way of roman numbers, please?
I have to admit - the Roman legions had some real cool insignia!...
... good video; I very much enjoyed the story of the 9th Legion. I look forward to your future productions.
Speaking as a fellow student of History, this is awesome my guy! I think you draw some fascinating conclusions at the end of the video as well.
Why don’t this guy have more subscribers? This kinda lit.
He is new as fuck. Let the algorithm work itself out
@@michaelr3583 Hope to god the algorithm does shit right.
@@michaelr3583 Maybe back in the day, the algorithm is Filaxim Historia's biggest enemy...
Algo’s Rhythm is working: just got this channel recommended and subscribed two minutes into the video
@@entraboard No it's not...
Don't forget that when Agricola divided his forces into 3 columns in Southern Scotland, probably to close off the glens to the enemy, one of these was the 9th legion. The Caledones concentrated an attack on the 9th and even broke into its camp, though luckily Agricola realised the danger and brought help to drive off the enemy
That's correct. I decided to mention it in a simple sentence at 12:35. The 9th suffered many casualties that night..
It's these "set backs" adds to the mystique and admiration for Rome.
Had these campaigns been easy you would not respect the Legions and the hardships undertaken. To pursue glory and expansion of the empire 🦅
The thing nobody considers is that Roman legions and armies were occasionally annihilated throughout the history of Rome and the Roman’s loudly recorded the occasions this happened. In fact those defeats would often prompt punitive scorched earth campaigns with no other purpose than retribution. The 9th is an outlier which leads me to believe there was an act of rebellion and it was destroyed and struck from history.
In this comment I write a thank you for the few times RUclips algorithm brought me to a good video and a possible hidden gem, I'm going to save this video to watch it later after my midterm exam, and might subscribe to it.
Thank you RUclips
I'm glad this channel found YOU. Good luck on your midterm!
same here youtube algorithm is dope
Your channel is off to a great start and I wish you success. What a brilliant idea to do more than simply refrence "The Legions" as more than a faceless cadre, but pursue further by covering what made each unit unique according to the adversaries in which they engaged, the terrain where they carried out operations, the degree to which the region was integrating into the Republic/Empire and how their history defined them as a fighting force.
I look forward to the expansion of your library.

I think the ninth legion also got compleately destroid in some battle in the Netherlands, like ambush propably and so there is no records about it, because it was too disgraceful thing with how the mighty ninth legion got wiped out compleately, so nobody wanted to write anything about it. The other chance is, that it got so small in numbers, so it got merged with another half size legion.
Great video I'm glad I found this channel. Just so you know Carlisle is pronounced "car-lyle" :)
The Latin pronunciations are a bit dodgy too.
Ahh you beat me to the comment
@@Kevin-mx1vi agreed, there seems to be a simultaneous usage of both classical and ecclesiastical pronunciation systems. Easily fixed though
We pronounce it car lyle in Albuquerque but I've heard it pronounced differently
Stanwix is also pronounced "stanix"
Thank you for this. In Britain we are only taught of Julius Caesar's two expeditions, Boudicca's revolt and Hadrian's wall.
Many modern day Britons can only name the Iceni tribe. They don't realise that there's over 300 years of history in Roman Britain to learn about.
These are fantastic documentaries.
Yeah I'm going to be honest, I would love for you to just go down the list of all the Legions and do videos on them lol.
This is grade A content not only for academic purposes and history buffs but is insanely entertaining as well. Bravo! You just earned a sub and I am eagerly looking forward to your next video!
I'm glad there are more like me that believe the Legions deserve a video each. I'll surely finish my collection, and I'm very glad you're tagging along!
Great Video! would love to see the 21st Rapax!

I love this channel. Please keep it up. You have some amazing editing and narrating skills.
Great info and very well organized/presented. Keep up the fantastic work, it was well worth the time to watch.
Dude I have been waiting for these kinds of videos for so long.
I have always been fascinated with the theories of the Ninth. Ever since I was a child for some strange reason this has fascinated me. I don't think we'll ever know what exactly happened to the Ninth. I've read every book and I have seen every movie about the Lost Ninth. I do believe as many that the Ninth may have been destroyed. And to save the humiliation of Rome and possible uprising of other tribes, the Ninth was stricken from history. In what period if time is unknown. Thank you for this video. And one thing I'd like to say about The Roman Empire, for the most advanced civilization in those times it was the most Barbaric in those times.
Great video man I look forward to more of your videos!
im so glad i found this channel. my fave is definetely the one about roman recruitment and training! if we could get more like this id be happy!

Even though I am not taking any exams that cover Roman History, I just love the Roman Empire. You covered a topic so clearly and nuanced that it made me intrigued by the fighting forces of the legions rather than the generals. You make some fascinating videos and appreciate all the effort you put into making them. Thank you for the information and phenomenal video!

Great stuff, got my attention... And my sub.
Welcome aboard!
Yeah dude, your videos kick ass.
Wow! I liked this documentary!
I love my Recommended for this
Love the history of the Legions! Even with the Roman sources it's still such a murky and mysterious tale! These men were stationed in hostile areas that did not want them there in many cases. So the threat of violence if not utter destruction was very real. Enjoyed it well done!
You got yourself a sub today, it aint much but hope you grow more. With your commentary (brilliant btw) I am sure you will.
ps I find the first theory more possible as a defeat to one of Rome's most feared legion coul bring many uprisings.
