As a kid, this was the hardest scene to watch, as violent as murphy’s death was, I expected something to happened for him to become Robocop But this scene was unexpected and tragic, at this point he was already in distress due to the fight with ED-209, and had to suffer another shooting by the people supposed to be his friends and colleagues. And of Course the cinematography and the music really accentuates the gravity of the scene

What's even worse is that we know something those officers don't, and that's Murphy is still a man. All they were told was that he's a new fangled corporate product that only looks like a man and can replace them one day, all Dick Jones had to do was play the victim and tell them that he was under attack by a faulty machine over the phone.

Sometimes nothing else matters, except God and that a man can TANK, RESIST, WITHSTAND. It's a purpose itself. Killing is easy, withstanding is for the strong, like the strongest "Man" in the world did in the cross. This is a scene of heroism. Heroism is not fair, is not for justice nor for the glory of men. It's for love, to guard and protect. It's for life, not death. And we all know it inside ourselves. You know too.
You might already know this; the Police guy with the megaphone is the same guy who helped Robo with the Mayoral hostage situation during RoboCop's first night on patrol.
That's the purpose of this scene and film in general. You're supposed to care about and become emotionally attached to Murphy. If you aren't, the writers and the director would have failed their job.
when i first saw the movie this was my favorite scene…. when he’s crawling and the police are shooting him and the music is on, it gave me a sense of never giving up and courage. the symbolism i received from that scene alone is why i love this movie
I remember watching this scene as a kid with my mouth wide open and wondering WTF… we had never seen this before in a film where the hero and main character, that looks as cool as robocop, is getting his ass handed to him like this. And the fact it was his fellow police officers made it even more intense and heartbreaking. Still an amazing scene that holds up. Especially as the cops move in on him as he crawls on the floor, ooof!
Lois before: “Murphy, it’s you” Lois after: “Murphy, it’s me, Lois” The first trigger besides his dream, to recovering his memory after the first firing squad. The second, after he had regained his sense of self after the second firing squad. I love how there are so many parallels like this - Lois gives Murphy a gun, he shoots a base guy who is thrown by the others. Lois gives Robocop his gun, he shoots a bad guy who is caught and dropped by one of the others.
This scene is a masterpiece in direction and story telling, let me explain... It completely parallels his human death in that Murphy faced a firing squad, helpless, barely clinging on to life, with Louis witnessing the while thing, unable to help through sheer fear and disbelief... Fast foward an hour to this scene, and Murphy faces ANOTHER firing squad, this time, its from friends and colleagues, but THIS time, thankfully, Louis braved it all, and she could finally 'save' murphy... Stunning cinematic direction, thought and execution! Bravo!
we will never have mouvies like that again, directors dont have it any more, you need so many things the cast must be perfect it has to make sense and dont insult your iq musick must be perfect everything ,we have rare gems here and there tho like alita batle angel and ready player one but good directors and actors are geting thiner every year
The "beauty" of this scene is that he "died" as Alex Murphy when he received that storm of bullets, but he survived it as Robocop. Robocop truly became "I'm Murphy" after surviving this.

I don't know much on MKV, but I figure you can open them up somehow and access all the different audio tracks. Especially on 5.1 discs
@@thestooge200 I wish I knew. I had a copy of RoboCop on my phone. I can't remember if it was mkv or avi. The editing tool on my phone was fairly basic and just trimmed the original copy down to that scene. When I uploaded it I noticed the actors voice audio and bern removed so I tried again but got the same result. The video tool used was just Samsung video trimmer.
I never noticed before that the 3 cops that said that Robocop is a cop and they shouldn't shoot him, actually defied orders and walked off in disgust. That was probably the main cause of the police force finally going on strike.
To me the best scene in the whole movie. This is where you see his humanity has returned fully. When the camera pans to front view and Murphy struggles to crawl away while putting his hand up is so heartbreaking. I hated this part as a kid I remember yelling NOOOOO at the tv. At in that score so much in this scene that brings things full circle. I also did praise the few officers that left before the firing began.
This was so sad. First he was shot to death by criminals, now shot by his fellow cops. I hated watching this as a kid, with RoboCop so helpless and vulnerable.
So, would this be an example of Workplace Mobbing? Imagine, if after this, in an attempt to remain civil, Robocop cleans out his desk & sits aside Officer Lewis, searching for ways to say goodbye? Would that have been as cinematic?
i don't know how many cops were unloading on him in this scene. but they must have fired hundreds if not thousands of rounds at him and his titanium/kevlar armor held up
I don't get why the swat team didn't just track Robocop down to the factory using Richard Jones' roboscanner radar type thing!!!!!! They probably would've been more effective than Clarence Boddicker and his crew!!!!!

Because Ocp were trying to replace the police in the movie franchise. The would never have helped them. The whole thing with the cops in this scene. Is only cause dick was panicking. Totally different times. It was a movie made for adults, yet children watched it and it was even marketed towards children, what with all the toys and merch that followed. Even a cartoon!! I had the ED-209 model toy that fired off caps haha! Can you imagine if film makers tried to do the same today?? It just wouldn't happen, there would be uproar if a violent film was marketed at children. Didn't do me any harm. Its about the upbringing, and I knew right from wrong, what was acceptable and what was not :) I look at my older brother today with his kids, and even though we watched a film like Robocop as very young children.......I couldn't imagine him allowing his kids to see it at their age!
First time I wanted to see it was when I was 10 when it came on TV, my dad wouldn't allow it at first because of all the violence (I was already familiar with RoboCop because of the 2 more child friendly TV cartoons). Eventually I saw the movie 2 years later at the age of 12 and I loved it!
I know there's no sound but if you listen to the words of what the male cop with the female cop, the male cop said he said 'he,' showing that he (and perhaps the female cop) respected him as a cop and saw him as a human, but when the lieutenant addressed robocop, the lieutenant said 'it,' showing that lieutenant saw robocop as a machine and just a machine.
1987: OCP Security shoots Robocop with extreme force. Officer: Prepare to Fire, we have orders to destroy it. Fire at will. Robocop doesn't fight. 2014: OCP Security surrounded the building outside. Officer: This is private property. You are not authorized to be here! Robocop shoots him with the taser gun. And speaks, "I'd put those guns down now if I we're you" The other guards dropped their weapons and moved inside the building
It was definently armor piercing rounds the only thing to go through with more sustained fire robocop wouldnt of survived the assault but it was Murphy the man inside who retreated until he caught up with his partner Lewis again
@@stanmoroncini8825 Yeah, was going to say, ED-209 shredded him pretty effectively, rendering his armor less effective. His humanity coming back to him is also a factor as, now, he's guarding his mouth/face where as before the ED fight, he didn't bother.

So I assume they were using AP rounds of some sort considering that when he gets shot by anybody else, he shrugs it off like nothing.
