  • Education, particularly, higher education in the country has become a major
political issue. Announcing universities in every district, city, town has become a major political move in the last couple of decades. HEC’s encouragement towards quantity in terms of research over quality has pushed academicians publishing papers for sake of promotion and not research contributions. Yet, PIDE research shows universities remain professor less. HEIs, which are supposed to be home of knowledge creation and student nourishment, are graduating hundreds of thousands of students annually without any career prospects.
PIDE research shows graduate unemployment is rising, with education premium dropping in lifetime incomes There are minimal to no jobs for graduates in the economy, but are HEIs graduates industry ready?
    - Is the problem only at the higher education, or school education is not up to the standards of 21st century?
    - Are teachers at primary and secondary education level capable and trained
to educate and groom students as per the requirements of modern world?
    - Has the curriculum at all levels of education in Pakistan evolved to stay at
par with the global changes and advancements?
    - Does everyone need a university degree? Why is technical education not the focus in Pakistan?
    - Why is digitization or digital technology not mainstreamed in our education system?
    - Why are we still relying on traditional methods of teaching?

The speakers did not talk about the topic, i.e. degrees without future.
Many degrees offered by the universities have no job market. No one talked about it 😢

There are many solutions to the issues that you have discussed but in my opinion three main solutions stand out.
    1. Evaluation and assessment
    2. Replacing teaching staff who lack the ability to multitask but they do.
This is necessary because teachers who can't handle multiple tasks at once might get too stressed and can't teach well.
    3. Banning unnecessary construction in public institutions.
This is important because excessive construction projects divert funds away from essential resources, such as updated textbooks, technology, and staff development, which are vital for providing a quality education.

Okay the problems that are mentioned here even if get resolved, where should we employ the degree holders? The only channel we have is government service and that is overburdened. The thing the government should take into consideration before anything else is to open employment opportunities. Those opportunities lie in opening up our economy to investments, investing the taxes in fruitful economic ventures, and, most importantly, ensuing against the evils of economic governance. But if, lets say, you have graduates as per the standards they wouldn't help us in anyway. First make sure you can accommodate the employable. And that, of course does not means leaving the ills of education behind.

Quality is much more important than quantity. Quality should be considered first from the primary schools

Most Pakistanis, particularly the young ones are un likely to be unaware of the reasons for this tabahee. It happened because of institutions like PIDE. In the 60s Harvard Group, funded thru USAID, proposed to set up universities. The assumption was that when the Pakistani economy takes off, thanks to USAID, there will be no shortage of adequately trained manpower. I wouldn't be surprised if PIDE was also setup under some similar arrangement with some other multilateral or otherwise.

Basic cause is religious education and religious mindsets of family.
The religious identity of society is promoted by the government.
