I've had my hedgehog for four years now and I've noticed that she really enjoys eggs so maybe give that a try as a treat. I also just started using really good hedgehog food by hedeghogs and friends and it has really helped Penelope(my hedgehog) with her dry skin and just has really great ingredients...love to see more hedgehog content❤❤.
The calcium powder isn't needed unless you feed mealworm. Best not to have d3 in it as most hedgehog groups recommend can cause issues. Hard items for hides i wouldnt recommend can hurt them. Mainly fleece for hides and tunnels or pvc pipe for a hide
Oh, interesting! Can you send me some articles on this so I can research? From my understanding the D3 is necessary for the hedgehogs to process the calcium for their bones. Lots of people have harder hides in more naturalistic setups but she also has fleece hides. She prefers her igloo though.
Ember is so cute Autumn! love seeing updates on her and your other animals! I know how you feel about the live bugs! I have a bearded dragon and she eats live bugs as well. I have to use a long pair of tongs to pick up the bugs (roaches, crickets, superworms, etc.) because they gross me out lol!
Watching her eat those worms made me so die! She sucked them up so fast! I’m shocked she ate them so fast since she’s been so used to dried worms! She’s so cute!
❤ having had 3 hedgehogs in our home in our lifetime and rescue and releasing a native one ,just a bit of advice, gut load meal worms with carrots it makes them tastier plus they get the veg nutrition, plain water in a clean pan and boil a piece of chicken breast only give tiny amounts of that great for protein and boiled egg yoke again a tiny amount occasionally of that.the mealworms can be given a floor time just one or two because too many can make them overweight and it will lead to other issues ,all of ours have been on fleece and do really well also a litter tray with wooden not paper litter.hope some of that advice helps and will save you money too.
@@autumngrace.please be careful with wax worms! They are very high in fat and can cause weight gain. I gave them to my hedgehog as a weight gain food when I rescued him! Some are fine as a treat but I’d really limit it since hedgehogs are prone to obesity!
I'm only speaking from a position of reptile keeper and I know nothing about hedgehog diet so this might be unnecessary comment but I'll still leave it just in case 😅 it's better to be careful with feeding wax worms, it's generally recommend to only use them as a rare treat since they're quite fatty and apparently super delicious to the reptiles. It's even possible for reptiles to develop an addiction when they're fed wax worms too often (at least it happens to leopard geckos). Again idk if this could happen to hedgehog as well though
@@autumngrace. I only learned about it thanks to a video from Jessica's animal friends, she has a playlist dedicated to describing the pros and cons of various feeder insects and it really helped me out, when I was starting with my leopard geckos 😊 good luck on your feeder insect journey, it's really super uncomfortable at the beginning but you kinda get used to it with time (though it's been 4 years and I still absolutely refuse touch a roach 😅)
We need more hedgehog videos ❤

Ooo I’ve heard eggs I’ll have to try that next!! And thanks for the recommendation I’ll look into it

This is the article I read that included info about vitamin d heavenlyhedgies.com/metabolic-bone-disease-in-hedgehogs/
It’s so amazing that you do so much research on your pets!!! I love the hedgehog videos!
Thank you so much!

I'm excited for her upgrades ❤❤
She has a really cute face with the dark brown and cream almost creating a mask.
Maybe consider freezing the wetter food in ice cube tray and defrost what you need? To save waste?

I gut load my bugs with kale as its high in calcium
Do wax worms eat kale too? Or only like crickets and roaches.

@@Bekah-mark thank you! I learned this before I fed them! Definitely will only be doing as a treat or giving less kibble on the days she has them
@autumngrace. yeah I usually feed my wax and morio worms kale too
Ember is so cute, i would 100% get one if i could ❤😂
I love you so Much❤️

@@autumngrace.you should get another hedgehog
Hows Ember doing these days?? I just got a hedgehog and i cant get enough of the silly lil guys lol
How’s it going, I want one but I don’t even know how to find one
Do hedgehogs and their cages have an odor the same way guinea pigs can?
The odor is worse for hedgehogs I would say

Yes I heard they’re very fatty and don’t plan to feed them often! Haven’t heard the addiction thing though 😅 I’ll be sure to only do it occasionally
