- "Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) took another shot Monday at New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), a potential opponent for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.
Sitting in the "Center Seat" on Fox News, Paul was asked whether he believed voters were ready for an outsider to serve as president.
Paul said he considered himself "new" enough to be called an outsider. He said Americans would like to see a candidate who's held a real career, outside of politics. Paul served as an ophthalmologist before running for Senate in 2010."* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

Christ Christie started the whole thing when he insulted libertarians for being anti-war. Rand Paul represents libertarianism which is traditional conservatism. It was known as classical liberalism years ago. Chris Christie represents neo-conservatism originated during the Bush years and now unfortunately the status-quo in the Republican Party.
Libertarians are anti-war, pro-small government, pro- free-enterprise, pro-liberty, constitutionalists. They are the group that comes close to representing the beliefs of the founding fathers. Neo-conservatives are pro-war, pro-spending, pro-corporation, anti-liberty career politicians who loves to play politics to get elected like Chris Christie and Hillary Clinton.
I'd go for Rand Paul rather than Chris Chritie or Hillary Clinton any day.

Term limits for congressmen are a good idea ... 12 years in office should be more than long enough for any politician to get what they needed to do in office completed ... otherwise, the goal for politicians corruptly shifts from passing good laws to merely getting reelected ...
Still how long is too long? It's kinda arbitrary.
o_O Presidents have two terms, figure the same two terms should be enough for Senators ... but Senators have 6-year terms while Representatives have 2-year terms, figure both houses of Congress should have equal maximum length in office ... all conditions accepted, 12 years being the lowest common denominator ...

dffykvn That makes no sense ... its the old pros in Washington that have been corrupted by the excessive campaign contributions of corporate lobbyists, as once they've been bribed, its hard to resist not taking more funds for voting big business interest over what the people might need ... cycling new people through the reins of power would reduce the hold that corporations have on our government, not the other way around.
Well, then two terms is arbitrary as well, just because Washington had enough of it after two terms…

Chris Christie isn't a fucken RINO. That guy is as conservative as they come. Just look at his changes to the NJ education system. Privatize. Privatize. Privatize. I wish he was a RINO.
Funny how the Right throws the term ideologue around when talking about Obama when certainly he is not. Yet you damn moderate conservatives because they are not ideologically pure. To put it another way, they are not 'ideologues'. When the ideologues take over a place, get your ass out of there if you can. If the far Right ever gets to power, you know it is all over.
Conservatism refers to tradition, and there's nothing traditional about Chris Christie. So yeah, Rand Paul is more conservative.
Rand Paul is such a joke that I've noticed most Libertarians no longer stick up for him anymore.
According to the Senator from Wikipedia, 'term limits' is somehow a 'conservative' issue. The funny thing is that his father was one of the first Republican politicians to campaign on the issue of term limits -- *back in the mid-1970s*, LOL!. 35 years later, Ron Paul admitted that he changed his mind about term limits, and that it wasn't a very good idea after all. So much for Ron Paul's vaunted 'consistency'.
Ron Paul spends an awful lot of energy to try to bury his incredibly racist, homophobic, sexist past.

Noam Chomsky refers to himself as a conservative. Whereby he's for traditional values and morality and opposed to the concentration of power. And Noam Chomsky is on the left. But, again, brands himself as a conservative.
Chomsky would refer to Rand and Chris Christie as radicals. And who want to concentrate power.
And Paul and Christie want government that's deeply conservative and so-called markets extremely liberal.
In the 50s, 60s and early 70s when we had a vibrant middle class, well, government was quite liberal and markets were conservative. Meaning: we had government regulation and high taxes on the ultra rich and thus a robust middle class.

Why would one want to be conservative or liberal simply for the sake of being such? Why would he say, 'depends on the definition you have for conservative'. Instead you should, through reason, find what side you lean towards. This does NOT mean you have to agree with everything just so you fit nicely in a label.

I love Rand Paul's absurd explanation for why we didn't "need" civil rights legislation. The market would have taken care of everything. That's right folks. I think plagiarizing a whole chapter of one of his books has pretty much killed his shot at becoming the Republican nominee. I don't think any Republican has a chance of becoming president in 2016.

Neither of these men really care so much about values and what they believe in so much as they care about opportunity. Both paul and christie have made their presidential ambitions clear and paul is saying this for his own reasons he knows he may have to go into a primary with him. So he disproved his idealism just by saying this.

Conservatism is different in different parts of the country. Rand Paul's version is a Kentucky version, hands-off and countrified. Chris Christie's is a more urban sort, heavy on the infrastructure and opposition to unions/"socialism". Two Republicans, two conservatisms.
You're allowed to do that.
The difference being Rand Paul at least seems a little constitutionally principled.
Can't really say if Chris is as good in that way.

Conservatives threatened to stop appearing because the typical Real Time panel always had Bill (liberal), a celebrity (usually a liberal), one Democrat (usually a liberal), and one Republican. Bill refused to dramatically change the tone of the show. But he promised to have the occasional "Token Conservative Day" where he goes out into the arena alone against three Republicans. That sufficiently appeased them.
