Metal... I know you aren't on here anymore and that makes me sad. But I had to stop by here and tell you that you were 100% right about the K371. I love them. I have been searching for almost a year for a good closed back and finally decided to try these and everything you have was spot on. I started my audiophile journey through Z's channel. While love him and his talent for entertainment, all the recommendations I tried through his channel never really worked out for me. I guess my sound tastes are closer to yours. Thank you man. I truly love these and think you are a fantastic reviewer. I am sad you had to leave due to the toxicity with some people in this hobby. I wish they realized that it is very subjective and you need to find a reviewer that is closer to your tastes instead of flaming when someone doesn't agree with their tastes 100%. It's like movies. It's subjective. It's art. Music is art. And everyone hears it their own way. It's up to you to decide how you hear it and what tools help you hear it the way you want to. Anyway, I appreciate all that time you took to review when you did and the work you put in. You truly were one of the greats.
Due to human nature, toxicity comes from jealousy, lack of self respect, confidence... Meta571 was best in business, imho. ( in par with Oluv's gadgets)
@@metal571 I don't have any issues either, yet. However, the adjustment mechanism is so flimsy, and loose, that I have doubts about it lasting even more than a year under normal use. Great review though, as always!
hi metal i know you're not here anymore but just like the other guy that commented i really enjoyed the k371s. you were the reason i got them in the first place, and after 6 months they still feel great, and i love the audio. your videos have interested me a lot, and you've gotten me into this hobby, and i can't be more grateful for you. thank you.
Bought the 371. They sound amazing and detailed to me. Extremely happy. Make sure the audio source your listening to isn’t shit, some of my iTunes downloads are shit, then go check the same song elsewhere, amazing. You can eq them for pleasure, or most of the time they sound great, super happy.
I just had to say you were 101% right about these headphones metal. They're the best closed back headphones under $ 200 I´ve heard. They sound so damn good and balanced. Like you said, they blow the ath M50x and the likes out of the water. It is a real shame you stopped doing this because you were easily one of the best reviewers here. Actually, I bought most of my headphones based on your good judgement and just wanted to say thank you. God bless and take good care of yourself. IDK but something tells me you might be back sometime in the near future ...( wishful thinking? ..) I surely hope not...
@@metal571 Thanks so much for replying. I really appreciate it! It is sad you have no plans to return and that we can not enjoy your awesome reviews anymore due to some morons that prompted you to make such a radical decision. Unfortunately this is what the world is coming to these days. I want to reiterate my appreciation for leaving such a great mark with your exhaustive work on your headphone enthusiasts community. You shall be missed metal571...
Metal you are spot on with your review. I picked up the K371 and it is the most impressive headphone for the money that I have ever heard. Sounds so good out of the box with no EQing. I know Oluv didn't like heavier sub bass on the 371 , but it didn't annoy me. I love my 6XX, but this thing is so impressive. I was on a 3 hour flight to Vegas over the weekend and never took it off. It was that enjoyable and comfortable. It's the whole package. I think this K3 series as Oluv mentioned is going to be an instant classic. I know you don't praise headphones lightly, and this one exceeds all my expectations at this price point. I really can't think of of any better closed back until you get to the ZMF Atticus at over $1000, maybe the Focal Elegia or Audeze LCD-2C Closed, but haven't heard them yet. Some more expensive closed back headphones may have more treble detail but they aren't as balanced and have many other flaws (i.e. DT770s, DT1770s, Aeon Flow Closed, etc) Keep up the great reviews!! You and Oluv cut through all of the audiophile hype and give us the straight story, now that Tyll has retired. I appreciate all you do for the headphone community!
To anyone considering buying the AKG 371 (BT), I can honestly say they are well worth their price tag! Did a lot of research and considerations including this well-presented review before choosing to go for the 371 and was not dissappointed! Yes, the only thing I found was I have to adjust them each time I put them on so they set perfectly on my ears, but you can easily hear when they are settled right for you on your ears, so no big problem at all. Also, I find them very comfortable wearing for a long time and don't find them too tight on my rather big (sweaty head). Great sound, too, but I do not not have that much to compare with in that matter. I am extremely satisfied with the sound quality.
I just purchased it because of your review. I am a Sennheiser guy so for me to stray takes quite a leap of faith in your judgement. Wow, an excellent closed back that is extremely comfortable and best yet, perfect to take out of the house on trips. Unlike almost all of my other headphones, the more I use it the more I like it.
Thanks a lot for this review. I bought a pair (on sale a few days back) based on your review and absolutely love it. I love these over my several other closed back and open back headphones.
Nice to see AKG on good form, these really seem to have hit the mark in offering excellent performance at a very affordable price point. Nice to see AKG continue their habit of going their own way with headband design too. It is amazing just how much sound quality you can get for modest cost with headphones.
@@frankgallagher7362 I was making a joke since we're buds. But also because although everything else was fine, the cable catching on his shirt annoyed him unfortunately
The hype is real! Nice review and nice to see something you’re enthusiastic about. Hopefully everyone catches on and this becomes the $150 standard. These would probably be an instant purchase for me if I hadn’t just received the 177X, another solid closed can in its own price bracket right now. Well done! Looking forward to K361 review as well.
metal571 just curious to know what you disliked about the 177x? Take it you won’t be reviewing that one lol. I disliked the 770 so I’m glad these don’t have murderous treble.
@@briancaulfield7251 it's warmer than the 770 and 1770 which are both too sibilant, but detail is even worse than the 1770 which is already worse in detail than the 770, so I don't see the 177X being worth the price
metal571 yeah I can see your point. I like what they did with the slightly warmed tuning. I guess I’m not too bothered about the detail because I never heard the 1770 and I don’t remember how it was with the 770 because I was too distracted by the treble. I wish they kept the $380 price. $450 is a lot to ask when it doesn’t include a case. Anyways thanks again and great review as always!
Have you heard the Yamaha HPH-MT5? It's a relatively unknown older model that seems to have positive impressions from those that have actually listened to it. One RUclipsr actually ranked it higher than the Sennheiser HD 600.
So when you reviewed the DT 770 (80 ohm) you reviewed it very favorably, but in this review your comments on the 770 are much more negative in tone compared to the review. Maybe you're comparing more to the 250 ohm version or something like that? I dunno, there's just a disconnect between your previous 770 thoughts and this review that I'm having trouble understanding.
I pinned a comment on that video explaining that the DT770 does not sound the same anymore, at least a unit I bought later after I sold the "golden" unit I reviewed in that video was not up to par at all compared to the used unit I reviewed
@@metal571 I gotcha. I hadn't noticed that pinned comment. That's Interesting regarding the sound variance between the used/new pair. I find my 80 ohm pair to be consistent with your original reviews sound description, but I also find I'm not too treble sensitive. But the bass is definitely there. I just compared it to my TX-00 Ebony and T50-RP this weekend in fact and it's at the very least in their ballpark for bass presence. Are you interested in doing a review of the Fidelio X2 at all? Let me know and I'll send you my set. It's interesting being that it's kind of a V shape signature and yet still pretty warm sounding and Tyll was a huge fan (I think you guys generally have similar preferences).
@@metal571 Woah, woah, woah. You mentioned the HD 300 Pro? There is shockingly little in the way of reviews for these things and they're meant to be Sennheiser's new reference standard. You going to weigh in on those cans?
I purchased the K371s for my son, who was looking for mobile headphones. He tried my Beyerdynamic DT240pro and liked it, but the earpads were to small. So we went with the K371... The day they were delivered I tried them first and was shocked... That cans sounded just right... from base to the highs there was nothing to complain. Now I have to buy one for myself... A awesome pair of headphones especially for the price! And finally they are efficient enough for mobile phones. I compared the K371 to following cans, which I personally own: Beyerdynamic DT770pro 250Ohm, DT880 Edition 600Ohm, T1 2.gen, DT240pro, Sennheiser PX200II, AKG 271 Studio Sad to hear that you discontinue this channel, but I understand your reasons why... Maybe we will see something from you later? Good luck and stay healthy.
Me: Metal I finally bought the k553 and it's awesome! metal571: Yep. Best closed back under 200$ 1 month later metal571: I don't need eq preset + It's better than the k553 Me and my wallet: Oh
K553 is still awesome, it slightly out details this can and has a larger stage but requires EQ to get to my preference. Also the 371 is 50 bucks cheaper, and just came out recently so...can't say I saw it coming either
These are truly great, bought them because of this review. I needed a cabled pair for my home stereo setup. They were really cheap now, but I couldn’t ask for more, soundwise and comfort. I guess one can get amazing quality products in the cabled world for next to nothing compared to the overpriced, mediocre ANC world.
It's unreal how much better even a $100 IEM like the Moondrop Aria is than any compressed-to-hell-codec ANC product. Only once we see LDAC and LC3 start coming into the picture more widely *and* those same companies actually start caring about measurements will they hope to come close
@@metal571 Thanks for replying, good to see you still around. I have been wondering (while watching your reviews) if you own a pair of ANC headphones, if for nothing else, just to drown out noise while out and about :)
@@bjrnsjohnsen1278 I have a WF1000XM3 which needs a whole bunch of EQ correction from their built in app, and I have an Earfun Free Pro Oluv Edition that (full disclosure) Oluv's gadgets sent me for free for evaluation and to keep in which I modified one of his EQ profiles using an internal firmware tool. Lately I've been using some combination of the latter and the Pixel Buds A, although the buds don't have ANC. I preordered and quicky returned the new Pixel Buds Pro because they sound like crap, and Resolve over at the headphone show has already confirmed as such. ANC products are almost universally disappointing.
Might buy a pair soon, can't resist them much longer. Then either a 6XX or a 600. I started working recently and I'm actually using my headphones there more than I do at home. Also I'm guilty of starting the K371 hype tweet "meme". I just bought new glasses and bought those with the thinnest stems so hopefully no seal problems. I think I might love them, neutral with subbass boost and slightly aggressive upper mid-range is essentially what I was looking for in a headphone. Keep it up, love your content!
Are the pads removable and universally replaceable? Great review by the way. Love your style bro. Best and most trusted headphone reviewer by a long shot
@@metal571 awesome thanks man. One last question if you have time.. does it use a mini XLR connection like most other akg headphones? Just wondering if my other akg cables will work with it
@@metal571 just got mine in today. Your right bro these fricken kick ass for $150. They sound awesome. Thanks for the rec I'm an extremely happy buyer.
Wow! Z-level enthusiasm on this channel is so rare :) This must be a great headphone! I'm soo interested in how this sounds, because my main headphone is also HD 6XX. I use a Momentum 2 for walking around but I want to try these. The ear cups look larger too, I think it is more comfortable than M2. I just wonder if they have M2-level bass thump needed for outside use.
Hey Metal I just wanted to thank you for recommending these headphones to me I think their sound signature was all i was looking for this whole time and it made me love audio again! That sound is detailed yet the treble is so pleasant for a closed back that i think i am in love Finally a headphone that sounds great without EQ
I've been needing a closed back to go with my 6XX when I want some isolation. This is going on my consideration list if I ever have money to spend on more headphones.
I miss your insight and knowledge too, you know what you're doing and I like the delivery of your video's. It was a sad day when you decided to call it a day, but at least your catalogue of knowledge remains here. I'd second what Tyl said, another gent who is missed for his talents. I know there can be more to life, but you both could literally return and pick right back up where you left off lol.
This channel was never supposed to happen in the first place and I just got sick of it after a while unfortunately. I still appear sometimes on Andrew's channel though if I have some audio thing to talk about though. He is my full replacement with measurement gear I could never, ever hope to compete with
Sold M50x days ago and ordered these for 118€ on amazon. Was contemplating DT770 80 ohm, but kinda chose these because of no amp needed. Hope they'll be more comfortable then M50x hell cans :)
How good is the k371 compared to the k702?. I would love to test them by myself. But i live in a country where there is no headphone market. The options are very small so i can only import them from amazon. And that means i cant test them. Would you say the k371 are good for gaming and lisening to rock and metal?. Is a good option?
The sound is great, but I returned them as soon as I noticed how the bass was impacted by wearing spectacles/glasses. The fit is nice, but seems very critical. With glasses on I miss a noticable amount of lower bass. You can test the bass impact by sliding off your glasses while listening to some music.
I bought this headphone after seeing this review, and immediately thought I had made a huge mistake, they sounded so bad. Literally every song I listened to sounded bad. BUT they just needed breaking in. Listening to the same songs again after the headphones had had sound coming through them for maybe 30 hours, they sounded completely different, and all the problems were gone. I'm now very happy with these headphones, and for me they are extremely comfortable to wear, just on another level for comfort compared to the Audio Technicas I was using before. I can see that some might find the ear cups too shallow, but my ears are flat enough for them to work for me. I needed the lower part of the arms rotated one click to get the pads at the right angle relative to the headband. Just posting this so that if anyone else gets these and finds them so bad out of the box that they're thinking of returning them, give them time to break in because it makes a huge difference to the sound.
Yo metal and everyone else, I've had the headphones for some months now and the headband is really ,really uncomfortable , I feel like there is no padding anymore , but just a bit of air that doesn't hold back the headband from crushing my skull. Is that a normal thing , I have seen no one talking about it. Ty for the reply .
no one talks about it because it's not an issue for people with normal shaped heads, not log heads like you! just get a family member to fork-out a couple of pennies for a headband cover with extra padding this xmas!
i was searching for k371 reviews and stumbeled across this video. those could be the right headphones for me...and what defientely boosts your credibility is that you're wearing those k550 mk3 (?) during the video ;) - i own the k550 mk2 myself and i love them, but unfortunately here in europe i cant find any of the k550 mkX models anymore, so i was looking for an alternative. i ended with the k371 and dt770 pro on my "candidates list"...
I think K550 is discontinued now so this is essentially the replacement and is very good. I still have my 770 but it is not as well tuned FR wise, but is built better, has a wider soundstage, and the velour pads are more comfortable. I wouldn't mix with it though. On K371 you can do that
I'm crushed, after 2.5 years of daily use my DT 770 Pro 80ohm wire has yanked out and I lost the left cup sound. Will need to be (side) upgrading to something like these.
Quite likely. I haven't heard those entry level studio monitor type headphones but they are pre- Harman acquisition of the AKG brand and don't measure very accurately compared to the 371 if memory serves
Get these headphones ASAP if you love dark sounding V-shaped cans. I hated these right away when I tried to audition them in the shop. Muddy, veiled mids with virtually no impact of snare drum and kick drum, VERY lush low-bass rumble but at the same time pretty lean mid and upper bass, where all the stuff usually happens in rock and metal music. Definitely not my cup of tea.
Damn you!!! I couldn't stop myself and Amazon had about $25 of promo credits they were willing to give me early after a chat and had more old credits unused. Ended up costing $111 after tax. I have been searching for some decent cheaper closed backs and I know you rarely praise something so couldn't resist.
@@metal571 I got them in yesterday evening and I am sharing your enthusiasm for them. I was not expecting to hear what I am hearing from them. Such a crisp sound in a closed back at this price didn't even cross my mind. Thankfully they sound nothing like Oluv's recording because that had me worried. I didn't even notice how natural voices are until making this comment and listening to the video play. It does a great job of making it sound like you are listening to someone talk in a room and not a recording of someone. If I had one criticism it would be the highs. They sound crisp and clean but they are aggressive. Wish it was toned back just a db or two but in no way is it a deal breaker. They are very enjoyable just the way they are. I guess if I am being picky I would like to see them have a larger sound stage too. Thank you for the recommendation.
@@mrcrunch8000 I think it's really interesting that others are finding them bright. Maybe my head width is causing them to clamp harder on my head than other people are rolling the highs off a bit more. Yeah I was pretty shocked how good these are considering they're closed and this cheap. Never heard anything like it in the category
@@metal571 I think you are exactly right though even in my case I don't find it nearly as bad as I have seen others make it out. It definitely seems to level out a bit when I compress them till my ear touches so it will probably improve with the pads breaking in. I really don't mind the highs enough to really complain. The way it is for me currently it can be a hair aggressive with some songs but others really benefit from it. It is certainly a nice contrast to the only other headphone I have that even slightly resembles a closed back the ath-ws1100i.
When you do the review for the k361 can you contact them about the driver material and other differences besides the k371 having metal reinforcement? I did contact them and got an answer but think people will believe the answer more from you. From what I gathered there seems to be some misinformation on their product page for the k361 or the person I spoke to was giving me an answer he thought I wanted to hear. According to him the K361 isn't titanium coated like the driver of the k371. I was told the datasheets had the correct info. If he is correct it seems they both may have very different tuning since only the k371 says " AKG’s Reference Response Curve tuning". I'm looking forward to your review of the k361 even more now since I don't see why they would change the drivers so much for headphones in this price category.
That's what I was able to glean as well between the datasheets and specs, just a lack of titanium coating on the 361 and it might be physically tuned a little differently. Oluv measured both already and prefers the 361
@@metal571 I did see his review but I rarely find myself agreeing with his choices. His priorities don't seem to align with mine which is why I am looking forward to your take on them.
@@mrcrunch8000 he's very very picky about frequency response and has a different taste than I do. He and I have actually been talking a lot so I'm giving suggestions on what to review and not to trust the EARS measurements either, so we'll see what happens there. Anyway, yeah, going to get a 361 in the near future for myself to review anyway.
metal this is my first video I've watched of yours. Very well done. I was ready to check in with the DT 770 pro 80 ohms or DT700 Pro X, but you've made me second guess if I should buy the AKG K371 instead lol! In your opinion, would you buy the beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro/700 X or AKG K371 for video editing purposes and listening to music? The majority of editors prefer beyerdynamic brand but would love to know your input. Thank you
I haven't heard it myself but the 700X should be less extremely colored than the 770, but doubt it is as faithful to the original recording as the K371 is. You can also check out my bud Resolve over at The Headphone Show channel which is essentially the replacement for this channel as I don't review anymore
@@metal571 Thanks! I've watched some videos from The Headphone Show channel as well. GL in your future endeavors. Saw that you're a software engineer, which is awesome!
Yep still going at it full time and just refocused my idle energy on that as well. I'm still using an LCD-2F at home and the excellent Dunu SA6 at work for now
great review as always, so how much of an upgrade would i get coming from a dt770s, and also any chance you can compare them with the akg k275, once again hats off, decent and insightful review
everything above 10k is pretty much inaudible on this one. you can't really fix the hazyness of that impression via EQ unfortunately. all you can do is to make it a bit "less worse", but as a producer i am unable to mix/master anything in a meaningful way on these cans due to that. the rest of the frequency response is really great for the price point. also the soundstage sounds really weird on this one. i never get the perception of being able to hear anything from center when in mono. it's a bit like there was a major difference in the indivdual tuning of the L/R drivers. coming from a Denon AH-D2000 and having ordered a DT770pro 250ohms in parallel, i really can't recommend these for mixing / mastering purposes in comparison. EQ'ing wise, you might wanna create some negative gain at 7.5 khz / Q15 and 8.6 khz / Q4 by 4db respectively.
Wouldn't say the air is missing but it is certainly subdued. Those eq filters are so specific that they are probably individualized to your pinnae shape, but I do absolutely agree that there's at least a fairly noticeable peak near 7k

I've heard great things about these, but I do wear glasses so I'm concerned about what you said about the bass response being affected by that. Can you recommend anything similar that wouldn't be affected as easily? Or is it not really that big a deal?
Unfortunately I didn't get around to testing those but I do want to hear them. I still use my 770 a lot for work calls from home just because of the comfort, and still have my K371
@metal571 I see. Thanks for replying. Love the sound, but my AKG K371 pads are worn out so much that they are starting to fall off. That's why I was eyeing something more comfy and durable. By the way, since you still have your AKG K371, you must have replaced the pads. Which pads would you recommend?
I haven't because I don't use it all that much so they haven't worn out. OEM pads are always the best but as far as I know they are not available. I'd still ask AKG support just in case they can be bought, and remind Sean Olive on Twitter that we still need those pads to be widely available. Ridiculous that they aren't
Do you recommend the BT version above this one? or is it just personal preference on whether I want BT or not? Sad to hear you're not doing vids anymore but was hoping you'd respond, or if anyone else in the comments would respond. Love ur content!!
I do respond a lot still when I can. I haven't tried the BT, couldn't tell you for sure, but Wheezy had yet another bad experience with the BT version so I'm not sure
@@metal571 thx for the feedback!! I think I’ll probably play it safe and buy the non BT version since BT is not a priority for me anyways. Have a merry Christmas mate!!
I got to try these out at a guitar center and compared them to the AKG K361 while I was there; I ended up walking out with a new pair of AKG K371's lol. I've had them for about 3 days and my ear still touches the driver. They sound amazing, but my ear touching the inside makes them really uncomfortable after an hour or so. I don't know if I need to give them more time to break-in, but I'm thinking about pad swapping just because they're so uncomfortable atm.
better than m40x? ok bought these... I was searching for better headphones with better comfort and sound but I struggle to find some with a reasonable price. Im really looking forward to these
Hi Metal. Hope you're still around here. Just a Question: I've just had to send back my K371 cuz the right driver failed on me before 1 month. Liked very much but felt I could use a bit less bass and a wider soundstage for my music which is primarily OST's orchestral music (without EQ and from CD collection through a Schiit Modi3/Heresy stack), so I'm thinking as an opportunity to order the K553 MKii. What did you find better on the K371 than the K553 exactly? Are they too different from each other?
I think that might work. It's been a very long time so I couldn't tell you for sure but as long as you get a seal at all around the pads which is a serious design problem with the K553, it should be tilted a bit brighter and have a wider stage
Do You have any opinion on headphones for ps4 and pc gaming? I am not really talking about "hear footsteps" or "mic quality". But good honest headphones with some fun bass emphasis to help with soundtracks, explosions and so on. I am a Koss Porta Pro addicted user but been looking for something wireless for console and pc. This is still intriguing though even if its wired
Hi metal! Do you recommend this headphones for play electric guitar in overdrive/distortion mod? Or trebles are so much bright/aggressive? This akg have enough basses for listen music?
metal571 I bought k361, some other RUclips videos said they’re better. The headphones are alright, they don’t have the “thumb” bass. Can you suggest me the best headphones for deep bass and high notes (Without being covered by the bass). Under $200. Please I have Otium $20 headphones, they have good base but the vocals are not great. They sound loud and “surround sound.” Really Good headphones for only $20. Thank you!
metal571 I just tried the 80 ohm. I’m not sure if the amp input is required for good sound but there’s no headphones better than the 50X. The 80 ohm is flat. I listen to music on a Mac. Tried to change eq through iPhone, it made it a little better
Hey was wondering in what ways would you say the AKG k371 are a better headphone than the dt 770? How do they compare in imaging, clarity, resolution? Love the channel
That's not how they compare. The K371 is a far, far more neutral headphone to the Harman standard. Stage will be and detail might be slightly better on the DT770 but the FR is totally whacked out on the Beyer, it's nowhere close to normal sounding lol
Recommended these to a friend of mine because of your review and it was a wise choice ! They sound really good for their price: flavorful bass and perfect highs, really nice. The question is: will they survive in time ? they don't look so sturdy
Akg 371 vs sennheiser 300 HD Pro for binaural beats only use?I want neutral and crystal clear sound quality. If not one of these two which one would you recommend in this price range. thanks
Hi Metal, I'm traveling for work so build quality is essential for me, it is now almost a month from this review, would you still prefer it over k553 also for durability? My 271 is dead and i need a safe closed back replacement
I haven't had an issue with my review unit 371 so far or a personal 371 I bought after that for myself, but there's a lot of talk about varying quality still floating around so I don't know
Do you think these are less trebly / spikey than the MDR-7506? I've had the Sonys for a couple of years and don't really get on with them, great bass definition but I really wish they had a smoother top end. Just for hobbyist home recording/mixing.

@@metal571 I don't have any issues either, yet. However, the adjustment mechanism is so flimsy, and loose, that I have doubts about it lasting even more than a year under normal use. Great review though, as always!
hi metal i know you're not here anymore but just like the other guy that commented i really enjoyed the k371s. you were the reason i got them in the first place, and after 6 months they still feel great, and i love the audio. your videos have interested me a lot, and you've gotten me into this hobby, and i can't be more grateful for you. thank you.
I'm still here, glad you were as impressed as I was

Bought the 371. They sound amazing and detailed to me. Extremely happy. Make sure the audio source your listening to isn’t shit, some of my iTunes downloads are shit, then go check the same song elsewhere, amazing. You can eq them for pleasure, or most of the time they sound great, super happy.
They sound remarkable with some high shelf boosting around 8-10khz. Really brings out the detail and widens the soundstage a bit.
Watching the review with K371s on my head
I just had to say you were 101% right about these headphones metal. They're the best closed back headphones under $ 200 I´ve heard. They sound so damn good and balanced. Like you said, they blow the ath M50x and the likes out of the water. It is a real shame you stopped doing this because you were easily one of the best reviewers here. Actually, I bought most of my headphones based on your good judgement and just wanted to say thank you. God bless and take good care of yourself. IDK but something tells me you might be back sometime in the near future ...( wishful thinking? ..) I surely hope not...
No plans to return at all at this time, permanently retired. Nobody should ever have to experience what it is like to be a creator. It's torture
So are they better than 6XX in your opinion?
Thanks, means a lot. Tyll was one of my biggest inspirations
K371 is more expensive than dt770
Worth it if you need FR neutrality over DT770.
Cant wait to hear comparison with AKG K361! :) Thanks!
Exactly why I gave up brand loyalty years ago. Every model has to be taken as an individual product
@Alina Satis so how do you compare?
Thanks a lot for this review. I bought a pair (on sale a few days back) based on your review and absolutely love it. I love these over my several other closed back and open back headphones.
Got mine in transit from Amazon. Great review.
Nice to see AKG on good form, these really seem to have hit the mark in offering excellent performance at a very affordable price point. Nice to see AKG continue their habit of going their own way with headband design too. It is amazing just how much sound quality you can get for modest cost with headphones.
In the last 5 years the progress on headphone sound has been incredible. That Harman research was pretty groundbreaking
I bought these because of you.
Sorry about that
@@metal571
Why do you say sorry?
@@frankgallagher7362 I was making a joke since we're buds. But also because although everything else was fine, the cable catching on his shirt annoyed him unfortunately
The hype is real! Nice review and nice to see something you’re enthusiastic about. Hopefully everyone catches on and this becomes the $150 standard. These would probably be an instant purchase for me if I hadn’t just received the 177X, another solid closed can in its own price bracket right now.
Well done! Looking forward to K361 review as well.
Just had the 177X, couldn't return it fast enough lol but glad you enjoy it
metal571 just curious to know what you disliked about the 177x?
I am beyond tempted to pick one of these up now, the low end looks so tempting for a subbass fiend.

I compared the K371 to following cans, which I personally own:
Beyerdynamic DT770pro 250Ohm, DT880 Edition 600Ohm, T1 2.gen, DT240pro, Sennheiser PX200II, AKG 271 Studio
Sad to hear that you discontinue this channel, but I understand your reasons why...

Rims on mine apparently aren't thick enough to completely break the seal but yes they can be seal dependent

T4 is quite good, just needs a cut in EQ around 5k. Never got around to reviewing them
more extended sub-bass on k553 or on k371? and between the two and the dt770, which one of the three has more speed, more energy?

I think K550 is discontinued now so this is essentially the replacement and is very good. I still have my 770 but it is not as well tuned FR wise, but is built better, has a wider soundstage, and the velour pads are more comfortable. I wouldn't mix with it though. On K371 you can do that
They should do an open back too with similar tuning. I just wish they made a new driver instead of rehashing old stuff. Focus on resolution as well.

Muddy, veiled mids with virtually no impact of snare drum and kick drum, VERY lush low-bass rumble but at the same time pretty lean mid and upper bass, where all the stuff usually happens in rock and metal music. Definitely not my cup of tea.

Soundstage?
everything above 10k is pretty much inaudible on this one. you can't really fix the hazyness of that impression via EQ unfortunately. all you can do is to make it a bit "less worse", but as a producer i am unable to mix/master anything in a meaningful way on these cans due to that. the rest of the frequency response is really great for the price point. also the soundstage sounds really weird on this one. i never get the perception of being able to hear anything from center when in mono. it's a bit like there was a major difference in the indivdual tuning of the L/R drivers. coming from a Denon AH-D2000 and having ordered a DT770pro 250ohms in parallel, i really can't recommend these for mixing / mastering purposes in comparison.
How does these compare against the M50x? I've only just come across the K371 after someone suggested its better than an M50x on a different channel.

I'd still ask AKG support just in case they can be bought, and remind Sean Olive on Twitter that we still need those pads to be widely available. Ridiculous that they aren't
Which should I buy akg 371bt or sennheiser 450bt
PERFETTA THE BEST
Hey, do you still have the video about neutrality? Can you give me the link...
Need to update it as it's not quite right unfortunately. Tyll posted lots of articles about the Harman response so Google for that
Hi @meltal571, thanks for your review 👍 For monitoring purpose (exclusively) would you recommend K371 over M40x? (Especially for podcasts)
yes
@@metal571 thanks for you direct and prompt response! 😀
Kulakliğin derin bas performansi nasil acaba? Ve yüksek seslerdeki bas şiddeti tatminkarmi bir ath m50x e göre kiyasla
When is k361 review coming up? I am waiting to get this (afraid of bad qc) or something else
Are the Denon AH D5200 and Audio-Technica ATH-WP900 in an entire different league or does the k371 hold it's own.
The headband should stretch over time. Had that problem with one of my pairs. Or you can try returning it and getting another unit
better than m40x? ok bought these... I was searching for better headphones with better comfort and sound but I struggle to find some with a reasonable price. Im really looking forward to these
Looking forward to your thoughts
Do you like it over 40x
Between akg k371 by and focal listen wireless which one is better regarding quality and loudness of sound?
Hi metal! Do you recommend this headphones for play electric guitar in overdrive/distortion mod? Or trebles are so much bright/aggressive? This akg have enough basses for listen music?
How do these compare to the Custom Studios?
hey my at a900x just broke recently and i really liked them would you recommend these as a good replacement
Whens the new upload for the k361?
When I'm sent one by AKG

I bought k361, some other RUclips videos said they’re better. The headphones are alright, they don’t have the “thumb” bass.
Can you suggest me the best headphones for deep bass and high notes (Without being covered by the bass). Under $200. Please
I have Otium $20 headphones, they have good base but the vocals are not great. They sound loud and “surround sound.” Really Good headphones for only $20.
Thank you!
@@bennettsupport2907 DT770 80 ohm
metal571 I just tried the 80 ohm. I’m not sure if the amp input is required for good sound but there’s no headphones better than the 50X. The 80 ohm is flat. I listen to music on a Mac. Tried to change eq through iPhone, it made it a little better
Would you recommend this or the krk kns 8400 for monitoring?
Thanks for thorough review.
Is it better than k712 pro in mixing or mastering context?
Frequency response, definitely. Soundstage and detail, not so much.
If not one of these two which one would you recommend in this price range. thanks
Can't wait for your k361 review! Have you received it yet? Any idea when the vids going to be up?
Way less so. I hate those Sonys, they're super aggressive and very grainy
Hi Metal, what do you think of the grace design balanced? is it better than the topping d30 you had before?
I had a topping D50 before. Haven't directly A/B compared them and didn't notice a huge difference between the two yet
