Btw for anyone wondering. the reason the voting is centered in this season is because the director wanted to show players fighting each other when the cause of the fight is the system in the first place. Just like in real life.

there's bi choreography like the history of dalgona candy an old guy blowing it and another with kids jumping the boxes. it felt like the budget fell off than in first season it just doesn't make sense, all the characters were so boring here, we had chad doctor a gangster a psychotic hag, and the some experts that have some knowledge of the props used in the games like the glass factory worker. its all so bland here and it just shows the fraud journalism today, they just overhype everything unnecessarily.

Idk, I kinda feel like you misunderstood the entire season. Was it as groundbreaking as s1, no. But it showed us a more behind the scenes story of the guards and how they operate, the frontman proving to player 456 that the players are no different than what the games are trying to prove about society, and mingle was a really great game. It showed how ruthless the players can actually get, and the death of one of the key characters was so impactful with her crying “unnie” as her last word. And the voting added so much more depth and insight to the players. I get that it was also a pretty slow start, but once the season got going, it was so entertaining

I think the problem is that it feels like they covered this in season 1. They had a vote, disbanded the games, and players still chose to return. They also had a plotline where players tried to kill players at night to raise the prize money. Given that, it doesn't really make sense why he thought he could convince people to end the games.

If that was truly the case, why was he still against killing the O's?
His intention was never to save everyone or anyone in particular. He simply was blinded with rage and wished to end the games.
And when his plan fell apart, he was left to participate in just the same manner as the other victims. Even more so, as he has been manipulated AGAIN by someone who has came to trust.
Just felt it was unfair to say he only cared for his people, when in reality he ultimately his only care was to stop the people who hurt him. Revenge.

    • @katiedawber5225
      @katiedawber5225 22 часа назад +60

I think it’s not so much he wants to only protect his inner circle but that he’s spend 3 years growing a hatred inside of the people running it. He’s so angry and hatful of them for his mother and friends death, as well as the death of his happy go lucky nature, that he will do anything to end the games, or rather, take revenge on those who have wronged him.
Sure he needs help to do this but I honestly think he’s so clouded by that hatred that he will do anything to end it. He literally even gambled with his own life right in the first episode playing Russian roulette

      @@deviouschimp4663i agree.
I feel he went back to his season 1 mode where he now knows no matter what he does, he can’t save everyone no matter how much he wants to.
He is in survival mode like everyone else is. It is sad that this game is war where some people have to be collateral in order to save hundreds more.
His goal into this is ending the games. His goal coming out is ending the games.
Some talk about the ex-marine guy dealing with PTSD at the end of ep. 7. But before we talk about Gi-hun’a lack of development, he is dealing with PTSD too.
Squid Games shaped his whole world view which parallels inho’s world view.
I feel gi-hun has some hope and optimism, but with a realistic view point. In-ho is completely cynical and has no faith in humanity, but is still intrigued by gi-hun’s world view.

Why did they have to split the season though? It looks like they filmed it all back to back and it's normal for K-dramas to run for 10+ episodes. It would have been so much better to have a full 16 episode season to have instant gratification rather than have the feeling of being rugpulled right when it's getting good. I suppose Netflix just wanted to milk it a little more before it reaches it's definitive end.

He had the chance to see her and then go back to handle his business and didn’t….they knew who she was anyway, if they were going to do something to her they would have already done it. He either needed to be really vocal or shut up altogether during the games, and when he decided to sacrifice the leave contestants to get the chance for guns😭😭 he should have told them to prepare themselves and he could have killed a bunch of the stay people and just voted to leave 😭😭😭 and if people wanted to come back they would just like the first season….and he could handle it then, not with a bunch of people who at that point had no choice but to stay and play because of majority vote

I wanted to call my mom, I wanted to go back home, I just couldn't do it. I needed to sort things out first before I could face them. Shame and guilt is powerful. Even if it's not your fault you still carry it. Plus trauma is a lot to deal with. Sometimes you know you can only deal with the pain and you can't put on a happy face so your family won't worry about you and you don't want to have to bring more people into your problems. Also, yes, the voting IS super important as a part of the social commentary. The repeated voting fortifies them into two factions: O or X. They are not just choosing individually but becoming a two-party clash. The discussions during the voting become a mind game. The voting displays democracy itself as a cynical game. Also, while you say there are more annoying I say there are more likable characters, Gihuns friend and the marine, the trans girl and her friend, mother and son, shy boy Minsu and even Thanos is hilarious, come on, he's one the best characters of the whole show.

nope, the police stuff was boring and went nowhere is the correct take. We already knew that the team was compromised from the start, since they were shot down following the limo, and the tracker was removed. So it was a bunch of scenes that went to an inevitable conclusion, a failed mission and reveal of traitor. Instead of dealing with where the leak is as a plot, they actually act like there's no problem, and continue sailing around until they get blowed up. Dumb.
Then there's the hours of the organ harvesting subplot. They killed off those "turning the game into their own profit" in S1, with the exact same subplot. Only to bring it right back, this time including the blacksquare. At least last time, there was a player getting info, and that helped move the story along. This time, it what? Got the girl involved in like 4 total scenes?
This season felt 10 episodes long, with story for 4. I was so bored from episode 1 all the way through episode 7 (where I differ from Alex). At least nothing was resolved, so we have that to dwell on.

Secondly, the voting was cool, and yes, it did tie into the message, It just dragged on for too long. If it had been just one episode or maybe at most two episodes long, little to no one would be complaining, but 3 episodes worth of voting that all don't further the plot past the initial vote was very boring. I still the the show was a solid 7/10 and would probably be a 9/10 when part 2 comes out, but it has enough flaws to where a casual movie go'er like Alex would probably not have the best time.

I already know these people have money issues/gambling problems. I don't need hours dedicated to seeing the same outcome play over and over again with no real substantial differences.
(I was excited about the tie at first with the voting, until I realized they would just vote again the next day. And if it weren't for the plan to steal the guns and shoot the bad guys down, I'm sure the voting would've went the exact same-they would all stay.)
I feel like the time spent on the voting portions could've gone to something else. Like, for example, the little girl's dad and the woman working for the games. Or, god forbid, come up with something to make the police guy's storyline less boring and dragging than just him and the crew being dragged in circles on sea.

Getting into the games from the outside and taking the organization down makes sense. But him doing that from the inside just wouldn't work. There's security everywhere. It sounds like maybe you wanted a longer season. I would guess that more of the things you want are in season 3.

I didn't know until after I had started this "season" that it didn't conclude, and season 3 was coming soon. Further, "research what the director says...." Absolutely not. I shouldn't have to do research to watch a television show. If I do, then it's poorly written.

I agree! He felt some level of security going in because the plan was to stop it before the games began. Or at the very least, pinpoint the island where everything is happening. When he realized his tracking device was gone and that he was alone, everything changed. He wouldn't be able to stop the games nor would his team find the island. He knew he was going to have to relive this nightmare all over again, and that he alone can't stop people from dying no matter how hard he tried. And yet he tries anyway. It seems perfectly reasonable to me that he'd lose some of his initial bravado after the games began.

Hey Alex, think you may have overlooked a few things.
    1. When the MC returns to the games, it's not to be a badass. His whole plan was to link the secret location with the tracking device. Once he realizes the device is out, he's in the same boat as everyone else. He also did get his defining moment that showed his change from season 1 to season 2 when he was OK sacrificing players in order to set a trap and get the guns.
    2. The North Korea detector isn't on the side of the players. She's doing her job but doesn't want people profiting off of suffering. Also, it's likely her that shoots 246 who is the dad of the sick little girl. So her defection probably comes next season as I'm guessing she didn't kill him on purpose.
    3. The voting part is awesome. It adds tension and has people choose sides, and you can see how people switch their priorities.
    4. Yes there was only 3 games, but I think it's only fair to include double rock, paper, scissors. The idea of playing rock paper scissors and having the choice to die or kill was wild imo.
    Thanks for the content.

    • @SnowieShiba
      @SnowieShiba 11 часов назад +9

There's 6 games in this season if we want to include the smaller ones. Rock, Paper, Scissors, to kill the mob duo. Russian Roulette is used when the recruiter dies then the games on the actual island which they showed us 3 plus the "night fight" which is announced like as a "special game" or bonus game.

    • @VendettaProduction01
      @VendettaProduction01 9 часов назад

      No
      1. He wasn’t going in there like John Wick but the tracking idea was the dumbest shit I ever saw. The second he got it put in my reaction was “why”? You can buy an RF detector from Amazon for 15 dollars. Hell on Temu for four bucks. And not one single one of those cops and military guys thought “hey, maybe a group that has the resources to own a island and a small army, that kidnap people on the regular would find a tracker almost immediately.” Was there a way to put a track on him. Yes. Yes there was. But they didn’t do that, so you have to go with what they did in the show.
      2. He was saying that it was a waste because it didn’t really go anywhere in this season, and he’s right. It didn’t. Even if was a set up for the next season, the point is it went nowhere for this season
      3. The voting was ok and I get why it was there, the problem was it was also very clearly a mechanic to stretch the time out in order to push for a third season.
      4. I give you credit for the games

Down to the last episode where GiHun decides to sacrifice the people on his "team" (team X) for a chance at revenge. I mean, the plot is definitely thicker this season (2x the amount of characters compared to s1) and theyre also exploring themes such as dehumanization of players as the game prolongs and basically In-ho straight up trying to prove Gi-Hun the games isnt that 'bad'. Also if you think they can fit allat in one season then the pacing would definitely be weird, like I imagine that the 3rd game and the shooting riot will all just happen in 1 episode to make way for game 4,5, and 6 and then an ending. Overall, sure maybe Netflix is milking this but it'll make the most sense on a finished standpoint

Watching it dubbed definitely clouds my opinion of your opinion lol. Even if a viewer doesnt speak the language, tone of the original dialgue comes through better.
With that, it makes sense in the show that Gi-hun devolves back to not knowing/struggling to operate because this wasn't his plan. Originally he hoped to take the Front Man hostage in the real space. If not that, plan b was to allow enough time for the hired guns and the cop to track him to the island. He figured he could take the knowledge of the games and minimize deaths. Well the game runners decided to give him all new games so he naturally falls back into the "I dont know what to do" role while trying to find a moment to overthrow.
Netflix not making it known it was essentially a part 1 has led to most of the justified criticisms, imo

Hot Take: I like Season 2 more than Season 1, although it's because I am acknowledging that Season 2 is incomplete rather than being a full season. Season 1 had several narrative shortcomings that took me out of enjoying the show (the questionable founder plot-twist, Hwang's plotline going nowhere, third clause?)
Season 2 has more characters with potential arcs and more conflicts that could potentially converge to a satisfying climax. It plays deeper into the politics of the characters, because the "Third Clause" never played a large role in the first season (even though it had always existed). The villains were also a lot more compelling and seeing the Pointman in action brought out a sense of dread that no other villain in the show did. I am curious as to how Season 3 will wrap things up the numerous plotlines going for them.
Of course, Season 3 could easily mess everything up harder than Season 1 did since it has more elements to juggle, but I like the setup for Season 2 moreso than I did for Season 1, and I hope there aren't any random twists that takes me out of the story.

The frontman wants to show Gi-hun that trying to save these people is a hopeless endeavor, because most of them want to play the games. The frontman wants to break Gi-hun down and destroy all his hope. Which is also why he lets the rebellion happen just to shut it down when they’re about to win.

I really feel like you misunderstood ALL of the characters and themes in this season. Like for one, we are NEVER lead to feel sorry or sympathize for the crypto bro. He's manipulative and sleazy the WHOLE way through. Hell, his girl even outright tells him that he only wants to win with her so that he can take all her money once they get out and he DOESNT EVEN DENY IT. Gi-Hun is not back to being wimpy either. they had a CONCRETE plan that seemed so air tight but as soon as they got to the island it all fell apart cuz the leaders were one step ahead of them so OF COURSE hes gonna be like "well shit im screwed.....". PLUS the SECOND game is different from last time so hes completely lost. you DID NOT WATCH THE SHOW DUDE (and PLEASE dont tell me u watched it in the english dub)

nuh uh shouldve watched the subbed version. love your channel alex but this one thing is just not it. shouldve done more research honestly. this season is becoming over hated just because of influencers like u who dont really get the moral. was the squid game ever good ? yes, did this seaskn take us no where? yes, but was it good ? YES. they just shouldve put part 1 clearly and that one thing wouldve changed the whole pov honestly
"this season we didnt bond enough with the characters" neither did we in the last season till the marbles episode, this season is just like a movie before the intervel. "they did this and it lead to no wjere the pink guard the ship" OBV NOT YET THEYRE SAVING IT FOR THE FINAL SEASON WHILE TEASING US THINGS NEED A BUILD UP also the voting after every game is a new thing just to message with gi hun to prove that even after given all the money and even after given a lot of chances people won't change and are greedy, and frontman playing in the game did change gi huns perspective gradually he goes from saving everyone to saving few who listen to him and sacrificing few

I guess you don’t watch a lot of Kdramas. They are not always „action“ based, rather hightlight „internal progression“ of characters. I really liked the second season, and I think most people just misunderstood it completly. First of all, don‘t see Season 2 as a season and more as a part 2. Especially as Season 3 drops this year and has been filmed back to back.
Okay, so season 2 is all about choice. Very clearly established by the russian roulette scene at the beginning. Suit man knew what he was getting into, he knew the odds, and yet participated. Even in the end he had the choice of giving up his beliefs or pulling the trigger. He did the later.
In the first season 456 was just thrown into the games and was „blindly“ fighting for his life. It hightlighted how the rich take advantage of the poor for personal gain and entertainment. The second is all about choice. The main character is filled with (survivers) guilt, shame and rage and just wants to cancel the games in order to somehow let go of thise feelings. When he is thrown (or freely enters) into the games again, he realizes it‘s not as easy as just telling the other contestants to leave and then they all live happily. Hence the heavy focus on the voting. Contestants WANT to be there. So much so that they initiate „their own game“ when the votes split 50:50. aka they start killing each other unprompted. That’s on the contestants NOT the game makers. Sure, the game sets up the situation, but the choice is still with the individual. 456 „does the same thing as before“ as you put it, because there is not much else he can do. He has to play or die. Sure, he tries to convince the other players to vote NO, but to no avail. In the end, he „finally“ takes action, but he risks the lives of others „for the greater good“ and in doing so, makes an excecutive decision for other peoples choices. So is he morally better than the game makers, than the people wanting to stay in the games? I don’t think so. He is making the same decisions as them. The whole point of 001 joing the game was to make 456 realize how pointless it is to rally against other people‘s choices. Every time there is a more and more „unethical“ choice 456 has to make in order to survive or sway others, 001 gives a tiny smirk. He want 456 to actually understand the point of the games.
Personally, I wouldn‘t be surprised if 456 ends up as the Game Maker in the end if Season 3. Either that or he kills himself in a similar way suit man did - as a choice of personal beliefs. Or else, I agree, this season was pointless.

As a trans person I'm pleasantly surprised with how they handles making trans character. I wish they could have casted a trans woman or at the very least, a cis woman. But the show is from Korea so I understand why they didn't. This is a big step for them. I like how they showed how much danger trans people r in just by being ourselves. How much just living our lives could ruin everything.
