I am a massive Classic Diablo 2 advocate. Don't get me wrong I still LOVE Lord of Destruction, but I do personally feel that Runewords kind of ruined the spirit of the games core draw, that of course being the loot hunt. I'm not talking about Holy Grail runs here though I'm talking about just natural character progression. Rare items aren't meaningful in Lord of Destruction because all you ever do in LoD is hop from one Runeword to another and every class uses basically the same exact Runewords, with the only real true customization coming from your jewlery slots, and even that's kinda iffy at best. In Classic getting a rare is a big deal, and you can actually feel the burst of power when you get some random unique to drop or a rare that rolled with favorable stats for your class/build. Gems were actually useful for something other than just rolling sockets into gray items for Runeword crafting. Set items were actually meaningful as well, and a lot of sets had cool visual effects when you wore the entire kit. Trang'Oul's for example turned you into a Vampire when you had the whole set equipped. Anyone playing exclusively LoD probably doesn't know that since running sets is just deliberately gimping yourself since One helmet Runeword is better than 90% of any fully complete set.
d2 lod pre runeword was so much fun. Felt good to find unique items and almost everything could be used. I hope they would make 1 season with LOD classic
@@CJSoSuave Been a long time since I've had a full Trang's so I forgot. However the point still stands with the other sets that were in the vanilla version like the Sigon's set and whatnot. Sigon's didn't transform you into anything but the full set iirc gave you a white aura when every piece was equipped.
@nicolasbascunan4013 Solo self found, as in singleplayer and no trading between your characters, adds more challenge because you can't just stock up the stash with epic gear to Jumpstart your characters

classic. (from my mrlama comment and adding a bit more info and hints. as I played more.) I don't play Resurrected am on 1.14D with pluggy and basemod (only for fps fix. it adds more features but I don't use them). As I don't like the changes and TZ. - Stash. yes it seems small. But inventory is stash because there are no runes, charms and jewels so it doesn't eat up space. - Best thing is sorc static has no cap in NM or H. - No shared stash. so muling oldschool - No orange cube crafted gear - Synergies were added with 1.10 even back then but everyone played LOD. so no one cared - no item charges. so no life tap wand or lower res wand - no class specific items like barb helmets - Summons also don't travel with acts - The Resist penalty per difficulty is lower. NM: -20 and Hell: -50 - leech is op and different. combined with... - Whirlwind hits every frame - Hard to find info on classic as the d2 forums are gone and not all of it is archived which is a pain to go through on archive site. Might be nice to have some videos and resources for classic. It is a valid game mode which is fun. Area and boss levels are different. For example SOJ (39) doesn't drop from NM Andariel (37) - Purediablo has a drop calc for classic but it is in german and hard to use - Some levels: Bosses: Andariel (12, 37, 62) Duriel (22, 47, 72) Mephisto (26, 57, 76) Diablo (40, 65, 90) typical areas: A1: Cow (28, 53, 78) Pit (7, 32, 57) Trist (6, 31, 56) Mausoleum (3, 28, 53). A2: AS (14, 39, 64) TR-Tombs (17, 42, 67). A3: LK (22, 47, 72) Trav (24, 49, 74). A4: CS (28, 53, 78) So in CS the seal bosses are 81 (lvls are from old d2jsp forum post no clue how accurate the lvls are) - Block on the shields means block on the char, dex doesn't give block. For Example, Twitchroe gives flat block on top. so a Tower Shield 44% + Twitchroe 25% = 69% Block - Only normal uniques and sets. Amulet (Nokozan Relic, The Eye of Etlich, The Mahim-Oak Curio) and Ring (Nagelring, Manald Heal, The Stone of Jordan) - Gambling. As far as I can tell does not upgrade to exceptional. So better to spend gold on the +2 amulets at 86, until then FHR on belt and armor, boots and fish for rares or hold onto the gold. at 73 rings can have +40 life. Or if melee in need of Attackrating rings Platinum Affix can roll from 22+ 101-120 AR. - Speaking of bases no elite bases so only normal and exceptional bases in classic - Den of Evil quest gives respec in classic ever since it was introduced back then too. But no essences for respec tokens obviously. - expansion conversion without to have to do NM ancients happens as far as I can tell only when "boots on the ground" in kurast act 3 Hell, taking the boat from act2. important if you want to do classic at start and hold onto ancients quest until 98. - cube recipe add socket to magical weapon lower ilvl25 ilvl30 cube recipes are great. for example so Executioner Sword with qlvl of 54 can have affixlevel 27 so affix savage 66 to 80% ED can roll. not as OP as expansion elite bases where later on with the same low recipe a Champion Sword qlvl77 can have afixlevel up to 55 which is enough to get the cruel affix 200-300% ED - Not all Affixes can drop. Example for ED, Cruel (201-300) and Ferocious (101-200) were added with LOD. In classic it goes up to Merciless (81-100). - 0% MF Diablo kill in hell will drop rares. personally I like classic ssf very much. Sure I would like to have shared stash. but pluggy in classic does not have shared for classic chars either.
Seems like a bad time for me to start D2 but I'm wondering what happens with all the previous season runewords? Are they gone forever can I find them in season 7? Should I just play nonseason? I'm confused lol
For the last couple weeks I've been playing D2 v1.03 fresh disk install with no patching. You should give it a try Phil, it is challenging! After playing the original D2 I feel like runes/runewords ruined the game.

Man I played with my father years ago, I was excited to play again for the past few years however I have a 89 skeleton Necro and I’m stuck. I only get a few chances a week to play,I watch your videos on drops and can’t help to get jealous!
Other things about D2R Classic (Pre-Expansion): - No charms - No jewels - Can't resurrect mercenary - Can't equip gear on said mercenary I may be wrong though
I like how I found a 15%/15% perfect 4 socketed Dusk Shroud 2 days into Ladder, and no one is rich enough to buy it yet. Lucky yet so unlucky, I would have rather found Jah and Ber and 2 Gul runes instead of perfect COH base no one can afford yet.
The thing I wish I was able to do is to run the damn game. It just won't bloody start even with reinstalling, scanning and repairing, running as an administrator and turning off windows firewall. It just won't budge, and the D2R forums provide 0 help so far.
Dude, i had this issue on Windows 7. I don't think the game is compatible. I tried everything, and then hardcore looking on forums and reddit -- i came to the conclusion that there are some things that need Windows 10+. I'm on Windows 11, and when i downloaded the game, no black screens, no not loading in, it just worked. So there has to be a correlation there.
@@vividly94 I was on Windows 10, upgraded to Windows 11, fixed all the drivers that got corrupted in the process and the game started working, but the compatibility on this game is just next level...
Sad I tried to login and my battlenet info got messed with and it changed and removed all of my purchases.. I AM SO SAD- I really want to play D2R.. I can only hope Blizzard helps me reverse these things. if not I guess im SOL.:(
If you want new stuff to do for diablo 2 is playing Project diablo 2 new stuff every season. pd2 is 100 times better then the original. Every character you want to play you can because they balance all characters.

Trang isn't in Classic, no Exceptional or Elite uniques or sets are. No elite anything is.

@@SomethingScotty For sure. I don't know if Sigon did or didn't, but it was still a great set when wearing the boots/gloves for that 30% attack speed.
Rares are still the best and most expensive items in the game.
I've been playing D2/D2R for like 15+ years I believe. I play it in small increments these days, ive been SSF in all games for quite a long time now.
Have you tried hardcore SSF?
Interesting challenge that makes it more fun, the threat of possibly losing 100 hours of work is thrilling

There were unique items in classic. Such as the stone of Jordan which was the currency for all trades(rares) and silks armor was used.
youll know who likes hardcore because they will tell you within the first 2 minutes of meeting you.

Runewords are a fine concept but they should've never been more powerful than best uniques and rares.

There are uniques in pre-expansion but there are no Elite bases.
