Corporal, Really enjoy all the videos! About 13 months ago I had a severe heart attack (37 years old). I was Overweight, lazy and never healthy. I found a passion for the outdoors since and the healthy lifestyle has literally saved my life. Your videos have been very informative, helpful and inspiring for me. So thank you!
Wow, That old cabin looks like a SOLID 50 different ways to get hurt, glad you didn't go in there. Being one of your earlier videos, I notice that your fire lay is different than your more recent videos. I have used the fire lay that you use now, I really like it and find it very efficient. NO BACON on the fish?!?!? You really are roughing it there. I guess the "Outstanding" came with the Beard. Well it would seem that every time I think i have seen all you videos, RUclips spits out another Oldie but goodie. Be Good, Be Safe!!
That was awesome! Thank you for not feeling like you have to keep talking throughout the entire video. The time went by very quickly. It might have been one of your longer videos, but it sure didn't feel like it. I enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I had the interest in such things and have the courage to do something that is far away from the city to relax or to vacation even when you are alone. It is also nice to camp because it help to relax your mind and continue your life. I salute you sir and im very thankful. From philippines mabuhay!!!!
Love it. Especially the turtle and abandoned housing. For wetter areas, I'd suggest to create a small overhang in your tarp/poncho setup and secure from both sides, gather some insect repellent herbs/plants on the way and occasionally chuck that into the fire. Like rosemary, citronella leaf, cedar tree bark, lemon balm, lavender, vanilla leaf, whatever grows where you are. Creates a little more smoke, and that's what you want. Also, make sure you do a good raking job around your fire before you set it, really thorough. If people did that more, we wouldn't have as many wildfires.
Just wanted to say that I have learned so much from you! These videos are priceless information that I am sure to practice and pass on to my boys as they grow up. I really do appreciate what you are doing here. I know it's a lot of work to capture all of this stuff on video. I am actually a Navy veteran myself and have started prepping recently because of how crazy and volatile things are in the world. Thanks again Corporal! /Salute
I love camping in the eastern woodlands, new jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, Virginia, love all of these places. I've always been able to find all of the water, shelter and food in abundance. Now I'm in the desert and it's grim! Great video as always, learn something new every time.
This was awesome! Just the right amount of explaining vs quietness, and good video too. I appreciate the effort that went into doing this for us! Watching it was a fast 30 minutes, look forward to similar ones in the future :)
Nice - Thanks for sharing! Two tiny toggle tricks which I use in similar situations: 1. Instead of having to use bankline or paracord to tie off the center grommet of your poncho-tarp to the ridgeline (at 10:12), simply loop it through the center grommet and stick a toggle through this loop. 2. When wrapping the bankline around the shaft of the gig (from 18:00 onward), winding the bankline a few times around a toggle will multiply the strength with which You can pull the line taught. ATB from Germany, Gereon
Great "in practice" compilation of key survival tasks! Excellent!! I'm sure it seemed long to you (behind and in front of camera let alone editing, but from viewer perspective, not really as it is engaging. Thank you for your time, effort, and always informative videos.
Great video, looks like our property in Arkansas! Complete with rotting houses, wildlife and dense lush woods. Spring or summer? But the ticks and chiggers would be very active and the Corporal would be absolutely covered!
Such a Great Spot. At the point sitting by the fire fashioning the frog spear, 'Predator 1987' Arnold by the fire music vibes completely. The frogs on your side fell silent and Mud'd up for sure haha.
Shawn this is one of, at least I think, your best videos. I enjoy the explanations straight and to the point. Always very informative. This is one of your best. Thank you.
Great video! Showing things to do while actually in the field is very helpful. I'll be practicing all Summer and taking trips so something like this has my mind set on what to actually do while in the woods.
Outstanding video. Great to see you out in the woods putting your skills to use. I vicariously enjoyed your overnight experience. Bonus footage: your work to plan for the next night's fire - well done! I can't wait to use that method (and material) to make some char material.
Really impressive. All the corporal's vids are consistently good, relevant and useful but in the last few moments of this one, in his usual matter-of-fact no bullshit approach, he made fire starting by spark look as easy as using a lighter. I salute you. Keep up the good work and carry on as you were!
I was thinking the charcoal should have come after the sand in your water filter. Charcoal sweetens the water in addition to helping remove insecticides, heavy metals, etc. Any foul favors or contaminates in the sand would not have been removed. Otherwise, absolutely stellar job. Thanks!
I honestly didn't know that after you boil water to make it safe it could still taste like crap.. I already learned something in the first 7 minutes...dang you good 👍
Thanks for the memories! I love this video. I grew up in Delaware and spent my summers running through the woods. There was a pond in the woods that would freeze, and we would ice skate on it. (early 1960s)
Hi Cpl Kelly. Thank you for 'pulling it all together' and showing it how it is. Appreciate the honesty that you let us know the frogs were on the wrong side of the lake. Keep them coming. ATB. Nigel
Great video! I like that you show not only the practical use of what you've been teaching but you show what it is you get to see when you go out off the beaten path into the woods. Thanks!
Awesome I injoy your utubes very much reminds me of time when I was young and would spend all my time with him back in the woods 🪵way up in Northern Canada 🇨🇦 back in the 60s God bless
Very cool video sir. I have to comment on that knife edge... You were popping slices off that gig stick like it was butter. I really enjoyed this type of video. You have tons of knowledge and experience. I love to learn. Keep these awesome videos coming. Thank you! -Mark
Enjoying all you show and learning all I can from you. You do a great job, and thank you for taking the time to share. Very , very interesting and informative videos. Thanks from Uk
Many thanks for this video, I really like the way you’ve filmed it, loved the shots of you in the long grass, love your pieces to camera. Best wishes from England (former Commando forces - watching all your videos since I found your Chanel!)
Following all videos...quality and narrative provide the needed support...length is supplemented with great skill set lessons. Thanks for your time and effort.
I learn something new from ever one of your videos, whether it is how to survive using my wits, the minimum needed to carry on your person to survive, ways to look at life and how to get the most out of it. Thank you again.
Charring the punkwood and your method for accomplishing that was a revelation to me. Here in my part of the Ozarks, fatwood is a rarity but downed punkwood is everywhere. Definitely going into my"tool bag".
The Eastern Woodland would be where I'd want to be in a SHTF situation. There's a hidden bounty to be had. I learned survival camping in the NJ pine barrens in scouts, and never lost interest in that area. Plenty of water, plants and small animals, and easy-to-catch fish. Thanks for not killing a box turtle, they are the heart and soul of that area, and are now endangered by careless drivers who run them over, as well as well-meaning people who take them as pets. Tom McElroy has some great survival video, and great ideas, like building fish traps.
Great video! I have a feeling you would be ok doing even longer vids than this one, even an hour or more. Length is not a problem as long as it is educational, interesting, or just fun to watch. You excel in all 3 areas IMHO!
Thanks for another "good to go" video. The " junk on the bunk" segment showed that your kit was simple but complete. It was good to see the use of found items to improve your situation. Don't worry about the video length. Have you ever watched ReallyBigMonkey? ha! Keep em coming.
I was reading some of the turtle comments.... You can eat water turtles, but not box turtles. They eat poisonous plants and mushrooms and this toxicity can be in their meat. Cool video!
I know this was a few years ago, but I still dig it! I know of some punk wood near one of my camp sights, next time I'm out there, gonna do the punk rock knife trick!

The OG overnighter!! Been watching for 4 years, wish I was here from the start. Learned so much from corporal over the years

That's awesome man. Keep it up!
You inspire me!
Just rewatched this video from 5 years ago. We are getting old what a journey you have had brother. I still look forward to your videos.

This is one of our favourite corporals corner vids. We appreciate the basics of your approach to survival and bushcraft techniques
I like your straight talk. No bs. Keep making them.

That improvised water filter was badass, thanks for another great video.
I will do a "how to" on this in the future
i dig the lantern from the soda can, i have not seen that before!
the water bottle filter was sweet too
another great video!!!
i like the long videos

and thank you for the perfect salute..not many of us do it that well..and correctly.
That was awesome how you were able to walk up on that fawn.
This was awesome! Just the right amount of explaining vs quietness, and good video too. I appreciate the effort that went into doing this for us! Watching it was a fast 30 minutes, look forward to similar ones in the future :)
Great video from 3 years ago ... I love the simplicity and also the back to basics style well done outstanding job 👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I've never heard punkwood before, but I've probably seen it a hundred times.

Great video Shawn. Very enjoyable to watch. Nice to see some familiar terrain in there.
I like the improvised lantern, I added this to my skills along with the water filter
A great video! What a beautiful spot! Your videos are straight forward, no-nonsense good information and very much appreciated!
Great "in practice" compilation of key survival tasks! Excellent!!

Great video, looks like our property in Arkansas! Complete with rotting houses, wildlife and dense lush woods.
Spring or summer? But the ticks and chiggers would be very active and the Corporal would be absolutely covered!
Nothing beats a fire at camp. Happy Fathers Day
Great video Brother putting the demonstrations to real time use puts everything in perspective. A definite educational vid.
Such a Great Spot. At the point sitting by the fire fashioning the frog spear, 'Predator 1987' Arnold by the fire music vibes completely. The frogs on your side fell silent and Mud'd up for sure haha.
Awesome video, no greater teacher than experience!
Shawn this is one of, at least I think, your best videos. I enjoy the explanations straight and to the point. Always very informative. This is one of your best. Thank you.
its lncredibly valuable to see all of the skills put together. Thank .you...
Great video! Showing things to do while actually in the field is very helpful. I'll be practicing all Summer and taking trips so something like this has my mind set on what to actually do while in the woods.
Thank you, Corporal. Very enjoyable watching you improvise at every turn! Semper Fi.
That beaver felled log looked like solid fatwood!
Outstanding video. Great to see you out in the woods putting your skills to use. I vicariously enjoyed your overnight experience. Bonus footage: your work to plan for the next night's fire - well done! I can't wait to use that method (and material) to make some char material.

Ya know what, the ALICE pack to me is as good as it gets, although I prefer the large as my pack, it has everything you could ask for, and then some.
Brilliant - especially the fishing kit, but shame about the foul tasting water. Smart thinking about the filter materials.
Thanks for a great video!
I already learned something in the first 7 minutes...dang you good 👍
I really appreciate the practical application of the great explanations! I am learning heaps! Thank you!
ATB. Nigel
A nice warmouth perch you caught there and a nice technique, second fish looked like a green sunfish great food source .
Thanks I always thought of punkwood as useless as it didn't burn worth a hill of beans. Now I'll have to make me some char for my overnight kit.
Video was not too long, awesome frog gig! Thanks for putting that together:0)
That was outstanding Corp. Real deal. Keep the long ones coming, loved it. Cheers Moose.
Very cool video sir. I have to comment on that knife edge... You were popping slices off that gig stick like it was butter. I really enjoyed this type of video. You have tons of knowledge and experience. I love to learn. Keep these awesome videos coming. Thank you! -Mark
Love the filter and the lantern totally awesome awesome idea
That was amazing that that small deer let you get that close to it. (Or you had good sneaking skills.) And good eye spotting the turtle.
Enjoying all you show and learning all I can from you. You do a great job, and thank you for taking the time to share. Very , very interesting and informative videos. Thanks from Uk
Thank you
Many thanks for this video, I really like the way you’ve filmed it, loved the shots of you in the long grass, love your pieces to camera. Best wishes from England (former Commando forces - watching all your videos since I found your Chanel!)
Awesome demonstration and a pleasure to watch! Look forward to more vids like these, thank you!
That is probably the most neatly-assembled filter I've seen. This whole video was just neat. Lots of stuff I've never looked into.
I like longer videos.. Keep'm coming! it's good to see the skills in use.
Following all videos...quality and narrative provide the needed support...length is supplemented with great skill set lessons. Thanks for your time and effort.
Thank you for the encouragement.
Love this ! I've been waiting for him to do a long one of him in the woods. Thanks Corporal 👍
Outstanding loved the water flittering bottle
I learn something new from ever one of your videos, whether it is how to survive using my wits, the minimum needed to carry on your person to survive, ways to look at life and how to get the most out of it. Thank you again.
Outstanding as well. Thanks for tagging us along
Loved this upload, it has me itching to get out with my boy! Very straightforward and enjoyable!
Corporal that was simply a masterful display of skill and knowledge! Thank you! Glad to see a way to char punkwood in the field for future reference
Great video! Punkwood is something that I never thought about. Thanks for the tip.
Looked like a fun and relaxing time. Great video.
Nice video. I liked the longer video and showing all the skills coming together. That looked like it was a visit to Dave's place.
Charring the punkwood and your method for accomplishing that was a revelation to me. Here in my part of the Ozarks, fatwood is a rarity but downed punkwood is everywhere. Definitely going into my"tool bag".
Well done sir. I enjoyed every minute of it.
Great work!
My favorite video thus far. Thanks.

Thanks for another "good to go" video. The " junk on the bunk" segment showed that your kit was simple but complete. It was good to see the use of found items to improve your situation. Don't worry about the video length. Have you ever watched ReallyBigMonkey? ha! Keep em coming.

Excellent video. Great details and instructions. Thank you.
I always enjoy your videos. They are very informative and I can't wait to practice the skills that you have taught me through them
Another spot on video Shawn, thank you once again
I was reading some of the turtle comments....
You can eat water turtles, but not box turtles. They eat poisonous plants and mushrooms and this toxicity can be in their meat.
Cool video!
Recommended and I have not seen this one! Awesome AF!
I learned the punk wood trick...

nice job ..... beeeaUtiful place, water like glass...makes me want to toss a few top water treats🙂
That looks like a cabin on property I use to hunt a long time ago in Jackson Ohio around Buckeye Furnace rd.
I know this was a few years ago, but I still dig it! I know of some punk wood near one of my camp sights, next time I'm out there, gonna do the punk rock knife trick!
I really enjoyed your video, the improvised water filter was pure genius
