I hated reading their scenes in the books... not because they're bad, just the opposite. They're so cute but have such a tragic end. It almost makes me cry.
This movie is terribly overlooked. Great actors, great main and side stories that intertwine. Great pacing between flashbacks. Great nostalgic factor for us that grew up reading the book and watching this.
it didn't occur to me when I was a kid that he got hanged because he was African-American. I was just like ''eww they're kissing" I thought they killed him because the town owners son wanted to marry her. I watched it again when I was 16 and was like ''oh they killed him because they had an Interracial thing going on''
I make spiced peaches. :) They're a rather simple concoction of peaches, cinnamon, sugar, cloves, and apple cider vinegar. You jar them up like she does in the movie, and they'll last a long time. Very tasty on ice cream. ^_^
If you've read the book, Louis Sachar said, I forget the exact words, so.. "The men only go to the schoolhouse because of Kate." Especially Mr. Foot Fungus. (who owns the lake)
All I have to say about people like that is "It's clear what must be done... Kill them all. Don't let a singe one of them escape. Sever their limbs and crush their wicked skulls!"
Anyone notice the similarity between this relationship and the Buttercup Wesley relationship in The Princess Bride? They both hang around and fix stuff as a sign of affection to their women. Instead of the classic "As you wish" we get "I can fix that". This relationship has more depth than Wesley/Buttercup though.
Hahaha omg I know his a awful guy in his character but that line “the duck may seem on the lake, but my daddy owns the lake” is too funny for some reason 🤣🤣🤣
It's an instrumental piece called "First Love," composed by Joel McNeeley. You can't get it on the official Holes soundtrack, but if you go to Joel's homepage you can download it for free.
I remember reading holes in middle school. I watched the movie before reading the book and man their moments in the book made me wanna cry because I already knew what was going to happen.
You know what's awesome? The guy who plays Sam also plays Gus in this show called Psych on USA. When I saw him then watched Holes the other day, I couldn't believe it.
Yeah and she became an instrument of hatred and revenge cause think about she kisses only those she killed and the sherif was the first to die and received the kiss before anyone else so my guess is she wanted to help sam from beyond the grave making sure she gets justice but also save herself something for a rainy day when it comes to it
Lol I was just reading Edgar Allen Poe's poem Annabel Lee, and when I read the lines "I was a child and she was a child, etc." I thought where have i heard that before?? this scene instantly came to me :)
Good eye! She is indeed. You can catch her all throughout the movie, if you notice in clip 2 where Sam is giving his onion spiel, Katherine is actually playing with her hair.
I forgot about this whole part of the movie. You ever see something as a kid not like it, not know why you don't like it then see it again as an adult and realize exactly why you didn't like it. Thats this part of the story
There were two reasons that Trout killed Sam: • He wanted to have Miss. Katherine all to himself and took it hard when she didn’t want to date him. So, he decided to break her heart by killing her true love. • Interracial dating was strictly forbidden in the Wild West. If you even thought about dating a black guy, they killed him with no remorse about it.
Americans killed Black people for just existing, for sick fun and entertainment. Trout killed Sam because yt men feel entitled to yt women (and women from other races but tend to show territorial dominance when it comes to yt women). When that unearned authority is threatened, they use violence to coerce everyone back into their assigned roles. They feel entitled to their privilege and any woman or person of color who threatens their place on the hierarchy is treated as an infringement on their rights.
@mustanggirl14 yeah that makes sense. Also the firearms that trout and kate use are from 1892 and earlier. Primarily his winchester carbine rifle, and her colt single action army revolver.
@zyzor Yessir! Of course, it wasn't uncommon in those days to hold on to older, family-inherited weapons. The 1892 Winchester didn't sell as well as the 1885 Low Wall Custom, simply because a lot of '85s were still in good working condition. I'd bet Lou Walker still has Trout's Winchester hanging around somewhere. Since youtube won't allow links, do a search for the Internet Movie Firearms Database and look at what they've got for Holes. I found it interesting. :)
“no one ever says no to trout walker.” “i believe i just did.” i remember watching this in my 5th grade class after reading it together, and the ENTIRE class clapped for katherine there. we all HATED trout’s GUTS. {edit: corrected spelling}
@spinjoh I do believe so! You can also see her in the preceding video, especially starting at around 1:30. Linda Miller -- later Linda Walker, of course. :)
I think the chemistry between Sam and Kate is much more intense and true to heart. Even after Wesley came back, Buttercup still wasn't sure she wanted to marry him until after she had that nightmare that she married Humperdinck.
Stanley's ancestor said he would carry the pig up the lake everyday til it got fat so he could exchange it with his love. When she made him felt worthless he went to America but forgot to take Madame zeroni up the lake. Madame zeronii is Hector's ancestor so when Stanley carried hector up gods thumb (the lake
@gabbyandlani The song playing here is called "First Love" by Joel McNeely, composed for the Holes soundtrack. You can download select tracks for free by visiting his website, joelmcneely (dot) com. :)
@zyzor Neither the book nor the movie are specific about when Kate's story takes place. The only clue we're given as to the date is in the movie, when Stanley and Hector find AT&T stocks dated 1905. If Kissin' Kate robbed Stanley Yelnats I at the end of her career, and she was an outlaw for 20 years (as stated in the book), it would put this clip at around 1885. But there's nothing that says when she encountered & robbed Yelnats I, so that is only a guess, as is when Stanley's story takes place.
@tweakersholiday Oh no, you can eat them with just about anything. My mom (very southern) usually just put a bowl of them on the table with breakfast -- eggs, toast, potatoes, whatever -- and you can have them with french toast or cakes or ... well, anything! They're great on their own, too. :)
when i was a boy growing up i watched this movie, now that im grown everytime things are not going well in our family i would always look at my mom and say, i can fix it. Now i knw where i got it from
I would like to see a movie with that embraces interracial romance that takes place during the 1860's where a white woman, who is the daughter of a wealthy plantation owner, falls in love with a black stable-boy but their secret love is soon exposed and the two find themselves fleeing for their lives as a racist lynch mob hunts them down along with federal marshals. I think that would be a Great movie! A romance film mixed with a action-adventure thriller and a historical drama!
The side story between these two could've been a whole movie in itself.
Absolutely(100).
Kissin’ Kate Barlow solo movie
True that . For real tho.
Yess
STRONG AGREE

2:10 "That day Miss Katherine realized that when Sam said, 'I can fix that,' what he was really saying was 'I love you'"
Wow❤
it didn't occur to me when I was a kid that he got hanged because he was African-American. I was just like ''eww they're kissing"
I thought they killed him because the town owners son wanted to marry her.

He didn't get hanged tho more like shot on his boat
Wow, the mind of a child is a great one. No racism in a child's mind

+elikana31 they were going to if they caught him alive but I guess they just couldn't wait :/
Omg same i thought it was just cause that dude was jealous they were kissing
"No one says no to Trout-Walker"
"I believe I just did"
BURRRRN!!!
Gaston moment that inspired the creation of the Gaston archetype.
To sone
Trout reminds me of Gaston from Beauty and the Beast. lol. Just from his attitude and the way he flirts.
Like he’s doing HER a favor… YOU don’t even have to row it 🙄
I make spiced peaches. :) They're a rather simple concoction of peaches, cinnamon, sugar, cloves, and apple cider vinegar. You jar them up like she does in the movie, and they'll last a long time. Very tasty on ice cream. ^_^
Can You Type The Recipe For Spiced Peaches Please? 🍑
_I’ll tell you what, I’ll fix that roof in exchange for 3 jars of your spiced peaches._
Well sheeeet you just gave me a brilliant idea
That man was so evil, I mean why ask someone out, when you can't even write or read?! And making fun of that man too! Kate too good for you!!

Yup! That’s the line I looked up to find this video. I wish they’d included the last one before he kisses her- drat
"The duck may swim on the lake, but my daddy owns the lake". Just fucking brilliant!
I can't believe the otheren laughed about that.

they should make more movies like this.

I love you
I already loved Edgar Allen Poe’s Annabel Lee but this made it extra special 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️
Patricia Arquette is so pretty as a teacher into the middle of 1800's
I remember reading holes in middle school. I watched the movie before reading the book and man their moments in the book made me wanna cry because I already knew what was going to happen.
Oh man this is one of the most romantic scenes ever filmed!!!!!
You know what's awesome? The guy who plays Sam also plays Gus in this show called Psych on USA. When I saw him then watched Holes the other day, I couldn't believe it.
I LOVE the part when he's like nobody says no to trout walker . she says well i think i just did . I screamed out loud " EAT THAT " .
Kate was a very nice loving woman when Sam was around. It made me sad when Sam died it just completely changed her. 😢
Yeah and she became an instrument of hatred and revenge cause think about she kisses only those she killed and the sherif was the first to die and received the kiss before anyone else so my guess is she wanted to help sam from beyond the grave making sure she gets justice but also save herself something for a rainy day when it comes to it
I love Dule. This is just like "As you wish".
Floyd Mayweather needs to be in her reading class.
Their relationship is every girl's dream for an interracial relationship!!!! Btw Psych guy!!! Love him to pieces

Feleciapink22 I literally only read the poem because of this movie. It sounded so beautiful
I love how Sam can fix anything(:

This is sooo cute, I cried when I saw this part of the mivie which I totally love!!
aaaaww, so cute, so romantic and so sad... love, love love
Stanley sung to hector whilst he drank and that's what lifted the curse
"The duck may swim on the lake, but my daddy owns the lake"
Trout really loved to tempt fate, didn't he?
Still a better love story than Twilight
Waaay better

This mentality is still very much alive and well today
Funny enough I read the book in the five grade after the movie came out and still love the book and movie to this day
I've thought that from the moment that I first saw it! I love it!
3:11 "I can fix that"-Sam
I'm not trying to be funny or rude, I was thinking about that quote Sam would use when Trout moved that desk.
Yes indeed it is! Patricia Arquette -- David Arquette's older sister. :)

They definitely went bad and got zero sick lmao
Read that poem, Annabelle Lee, in grade school & I thought of this scene
Is it too much to find someone like Sam in real life 😩 he has such a big heart and he wears it on his sleeve. So beautiful 🥹
It would be nice if there were men like Sam. It's such a shame those two couldn't be together.
He was all butt hurt at the end kicking the table lol
@mustanggirl14 yeah that makes sense. Also the firearms that trout and kate use are from 1892 and earlier. Primarily his winchester carbine rifle, and her colt single action army revolver.
@ztslovebird Yes he is! Dule Hill is the actor's name.

Trout: No one says "no" to Trout Walker!

@andStack I never thought to compare the two before, but you've got a point! ^__^
That would be a very good movie! Maybe if you're good at writing, you could write it as a short-story or a novel. I would read it :D
I read the book when I was 11 and I sort of understood why Trout killed Sam but I was too angry about his death to pay attention to the racial issues.
I can fix that
