I’m a New Zealander and Alan’s story really resonates for me! He came back to Auckland some 10 years or more ago and played a trio concert o standard tunes. What an experience that was!

Monk, your incredibly sagacious, thoughtful questions made this interview so informative and "heavy" but accessible at the same time. Some of your best work here. And Alan's responses were at the same level with wonderful candor and detail.

Thank you James. I was so impressed by Alan's thoughtful explanations about his work and his balance of pride and humbleness.

I am a great fan of Alan’s recent trio albums and an even bigger fan of Mel Torme. Alan arranged Mel Torme’s Tribute album to Bing Crosby. I think this album is my least favorite Torme album, i think it’s boring. I wonder how Alan thinks back on that cooperation with Mel and on the album?
