Frieren love to make us see the little things that affects our perceptions. Sometimes they're a positive like a thank you or a praise. Sometimes they're a negative like a bad word or rumors. I initially thought Stark was abandoned by his whole family but as it turned out his brother was his beacon of strength in his progress to get stronger. Stark put up a neutral face but deep down he was still so affected those words that he even believed he was a coward who ran away from the village when a demon attacked. The same goes for Denken. People whispered rumors about his ruthless rise to power as a military mage for nobility. Instead, he turned out to be the kind ruthless mage in the Northern lands. He kept telling Reichter to not kill Frieren's team mates and later sought out to give a pep talk when he failed the second test.
An important detail: Stark didn't decide to run away. Stolz told him to run away and save himself because he knew the village was lost and Stark would die. So Stark blaming himself is misplaced (and I do wonder if it's the same of Eisen)
I know, I address this at 18:59. I didn't mention this at the start since from Stark's view, he does believe that he is a coward up until the dinner they have for his birthday and that flashback is shown for the first time. It was more of a narrative thing for the video :^)
People blame themselves all the time when their loved ones die , because we always keep thinking , " only if I did this " , " if I did better " , " had I known" . It's misplaced, sure , but it's a very human thing.
Excellent, excellent review of Frieren, and the character of Stark. I also was highly triggered by Stark. When your own father tells you that you are a failure, then that is how you see yourself. This kind of negativity is crippling for a young person. Too many parents, teachers, and others in authority, tell young people, "You cannot do that." That kind of thing is the killer. Young people need encouragement and constant encouragement. They need to hear that if they try, if they work hard, then they can succeed. And most tries fail. But you pick yourself up and continue just like Stark did in his fight with Linie.
Thanks dude! And to add on, I love that during the birthday dinner scene, Stark realizes that even though his father was disappointed in him, there have been several other people that he's met on his travels that thought highly of him. And even back when he was a kid, his brother was there to encourage him. It's a very touching story to me.
Or, you go into despair, rage and sorrow. create a inferior complex or lose your ability to care about outcomes, because of that. What if, someone is triying all the time and only fail all the time? While it feels, that everyone else can manage the same task, like a walk with no problems. Where his work isnt enough or doesnt matter at the end? And all the person is hearing is laughter about his failure, complainments, that he failed or here, that he should simply try more, when there is nothing left to improve, that there is no better way to do that. Or, is simply not able to do that. Its sometimes simply the true, that you have to stop things and dont try it anymore, because, you are simply not good enough. If you only expect failures, can you at last prevent saddnes, because the outcome is exactly, what you predicted. And the smallest better outcome can feel better.

@@hasseo195 I answered your comment but someone deleted it, perhaps because they thought it too glib, and I understand that. But I did not want to leave your comment unanswered. If you are in school then you have options to talk with a teacher or one of the many fine counselors that schools maintain. Beginning of probably a long rant for anyone who cares: I also felt really inspired by the Stark/Eisen arc. The truth is I’m like Stark. As someone who has always found it really hard to believe I have any worth at all, I found it always harder to do things that I’m scared of. And I do a music performance major. That shit paralyses me and I always fail really badly and get in my head too much even though I could play well on my own. Watching Eisen and stark tremble before they start a battle, reminds me of the same tremble I always have before I begin a performance. And by showing how they do it bravely anyway, even though they’re trembling, shows me that you’re able to conquer something, even if youre scared of that exact thing you’re about to do. Do it scared, do it even if you’re super scared of it. It’s really inspired me to face something dead on, even if I’m trembling really badly.
definitely, i loved the scene of stark trembling before the dragon fight, and the statement "Fear is what brought me this far" is so powerful and inspiring. honestly wished i talked about it way more in the vid lol
Thank for your video. It makes me cry again after the end of the show. Even reading the manga it still make me feels empty. But I will try to be a better person, to questioning my self-doubt and also to treasure the present.

Stark is best boy! Qnd this analysis is a great reminder of how details matter a lot in Frieren. One of my favorite moments was wheh in a scene that felt like a throwaway line, Fern asked what was the point of learning mundane spells like making grapes sour, and it ends up coming up later when in a flashback, Eisen mentions he loves sour grapes, and not long after that, Frieren gets Eisen sour grapes when she goes to visit him
I completely agree, Frieren is so great at having little scenes like that mean so much. It’s a very heartwarming thing to see. (One that’s up there for me is Fern waiting with Frieren when she examines treasure they just found just because she likes seeing Frieren happy) Also ty!
I feel like you missed two very important points: Stark looked up to his brother, who was the golden child of the clan, and that the reason the hamburg steak realization was important was that his brother made it for him on his birthday in the same way. Despite his village having no confidence in him, his hero, the hero of the village, acknowledged him.
i felt like these things were somewhat implied in the video but i could've definitely expanded on them more, especially how stolz's acknowledgement effected stark. ty for the feedback
I think there is a lot ahead for Stark that I really hope we see. When/If we get to the Aureole his reunion with his brother will be a big moment, also I am interested in what may happen with the Hero sword. It is still there and Stark didn't try and pull it. I could see him or Gorilla Warrior trying at some point. I think together with Fern they will grow to surpass there masters.
Really good video on the true moral center of Frieren as a show. I'm honestly just happy to see someone give so much attention to Stark since he can sometimes fall into the background (especially during the mage exam, understandingly so) but he never stops to be a funny and heartwarming presence in the series.
Sometimes? I don't remember a single time where he genuinly mattered after Linie. I mean, there was one demon, but he had to share the spotlight with the other guy present. Can't spoil too much after all
the final scene from stark and orden hit me like a truck. stark saw his own father through orden he even have the same scar. so it kinda like both of them having closure in the end.
Absolutely incredible video. I think you hid some wonderful notes through the entire thing. I cannot deny tearing up during so much of it. Self worth is hard to deal with. Seeing how it's treated in Frieren is a fresh breath of air. I cannot wait to see what comes next! From both the Manga, anime season 2, and from someone who absolutely nailed a Stark video essay. I finished the anime and i did watch some videos, story explain and analysis, but i wanna say the classic quote "he's just like me fr" I'm a person who keeps doubting myself, i see rewards as like just a lie or even compliment, it felt like something i keep hearing that isn't for me, but then now days after i actually realised about myself i'm slowly making good changes, it felt nice once i feel that i can see the other person inside of me.
definitely! i find it difficult to just accept praise from other people too, mainly because i don’t think i deserve, but like you said, i’ve also been trying to get better at receiving praise these past few years and i’ve felt that i’ve made progress too. :)
Something I think should be mentioned is that his brother specifically told him to run. His brother wanted him to live. He was just a child and would have died. His brother knew that.
i know, i talk about this at 18:58. it’s just at that point in the timeline, stark believed that he was the one to decide to run away and that’s why he felt regret. he doesn’t remember his brother told him to run until the dinner with frieren and fern on his birthday.
Dang you, Frieren!!! Why do you have to unleash a barrage of emotional impacts. It hits deep, man.😭 I feel like Fern hitting me with those endless fast Zoltraak.😲😱 Also, love this type of essays where the creator relates to a show's characters and principle points. Great video exposition, man.😍👍
As a person who loves Friren so much, I've wathed many videos like this and I can say this is one of the best. I really appreciate that u made video about my favorite character from all shows I've seen. Thank you!
I love everything about your commentary and analysis, Stark resonated with me a lot and I'm glad you shared your own connection to him in your video. There's an anime from 20 years ago called Haibane Renmei, it changed my life and it covers a lot of similar themes. It's only 13 episodes long but you might like it, if you want something similar
ty for the kind words :) and also ty for the recommendation, because im pretty sure my friend actually tried to recommend me this show before but he couldnt remember the name lol, just that the art style reminded him of serial experiments lain. ill be sure to check it out
A very good review of Stark. Dont doubt your video editing skills either; I thought it was very insightful & professional, especially the music at the very end to tie up the video.
I totally disagree on that spoilers do not ruin your experience. It totally does. But i also totally agree on that every story should be viewd blind :)
@@fancyman3206 of course i can respect that as well!! I can see that it could not matter that much because we dont have context but lets say the classic if you watch the sixth sense and (If you did not watch it yet spoiler ahead :D) ................ somebodey spoilers you that he is dead from the beginning of the movie then it is pretty much ruined.
@@georgplatzer8213 thats true, stories like sixth sense do somewhat rely on their big reveal so being spoiled will have a negative impact. i was referring more so to stories that have more of an emphasis on the journey rather than the destination.
as manga reader my theory here spoilers: We see that demon who destroy Stark villige is non other Rivale Bloody God of War, in the end The Monument of the Goddess we see that Hero Himmel has memories of Frierien time travel so we could determine Eisen also has. So here is my theory part of reason Eisen took Stark as his student is because he felt responsible for not killing Rivale back then.
I don't think eisen could hv killed rivale back then.... Like frieren confirmed how there were much more powerful shoguns in the demon king's army than eisen and as we know rivale is the strongest fighter in the demon world ....and we also see how rivale was kinda playing with eisen....
Didn't read every coment here, so i dunno if someone cares or if someone has already mentioned it. Since we all like Stark a lot, i just wanted to mention about the pronunciationof hes name, that its spelled with an "sh"tark... Like in "sh"ield or "sh"elter. Hes name is also translated to strong/strength. Good video by the way.
oh shoot i didn't even realize that, thats on me. i had just went along with how its usually pronounced in english, i forgot the names were german lol. thanks tho!
I think those people who want the pacing picked up will, much like Frieren herself, eventually come to understand the passage of time much more clearly-provided they live long enough. (40ish teams m years oughta do it)
you made a greate video , astounding qualitie especialy for someone with only 30 subs keep going, I can easely see you gettind a thousend subs, althou that does come from someone with no sence of scale when it comes to subs
"Why bother trying, if im only going to fail? What does it matter?" Good queston. Why should i try something, when i know, that im only will be failing. Or, where i try for hours something and am failing the whole time? Its logical to stop than, or not even to try it. At last, will it prevent you from losing time and prevent you sorrow of the failures aor going into a rage mode and hurt yourself or other things than.
I can somewhat see your point, but I think that if you are truly passionate about something, then you should still keep trying. It might be helpful to breakdown what the goal you’re trying to achieve into smaller goals. Maybe you can’t succeed today but doing anything, even the smallest inch of progress is worth it in my opinion. I hope my advice helps and I wish you good luck 👍
At no point did Stark actually say he was going to go fight the demons. He always meant to go get Frieren. You can tell because he wasn't trembling at all
ty for letting me know, tho i think i already know the guy ur talking about lol. i saw he plagiarized me and another youtuber, but neither of us could get through to him. ive decided to just report him and move on (tho idk if youtube will do anything lol) also ty for the kind words!

i know, i talk about this at 18:58. it’s just at that point in the timeline, stark believed that he was the one to decide to run away and that’s why he felt regret. he doesn’t remember his brother told him to run until the dinner with frieren and fern on his birthday.
Dang you, Frieren!!! Why do you have to unleash a barrage of emotional impacts. It hits deep, man.😭 I feel like Fern hitting me with those endless fast Zoltraak.😲😱
Also, love this type of essays where the creator relates to a show's characters and principle points.
Great video exposition, man.😍👍
yea no frieren is just so great at hitting you in the feels in so many different ways. also ty!
I want more focus on stark in the manga aswell our boy has so much potential
Your video is amazing. Please keep working, I want to see more videos from this channel in the future
ty! i’ll try my best to deliver :]
As a person who loves Friren so much, I've wathed many videos like this and I can say this is one of the best. I really appreciate that u made video about my favorite character from all shows I've seen. Thank you!
I’ve also watched so many vids on frieren and I don’t think i’m anywhere near the best lol but thank you regardless
Beautiful video man, genuinely brought a tear to my eye. Thank you for making it.
ty, glad u enjoyed it!
@@fancyman3206 y/w definitely earnt a sub, you have talent your channel should be bigger
@@Mercy_Aint_Safe_In_India thanks man, i appreciate it!
So well said and relatable man,
Stand proud, you can cook 😢
ty bro i appreciate it!
I love everything about your commentary and analysis, Stark resonated with me a lot and I'm glad you shared your own connection to him in your video.
There's an anime from 20 years ago called Haibane Renmei, it changed my life and it covers a lot of similar themes. It's only 13 episodes long but you might like it, if you want something similar
ty for the kind words :) and also ty for the recommendation, because im pretty sure my friend actually tried to recommend me this show before but he couldnt remember the name lol, just that the art style reminded him of serial experiments lain. ill be sure to check it out
@@fancyman3206 Lain was made by the same person! He was a painter in college, so there's a lot of watercolor vibes. He also made Technolyxe
@@HaibaneRakka571 ah thats cool to know, technolyxe was another show on my watch list that i need to get around to lol
A very good review of Stark. Dont doubt your video editing skills either; I thought it was very insightful & professional, especially the music at the very end to tie up the video.
ty! i still don't think i'm that great at editing but i think that i have gotten better with each video i've made :)
Well spent 21 mins. Beautifully done.
ty!
At least everyone that saw him flee from his village is dead now. It may make The journey to heaven awkward.
:(
I totally disagree on that spoilers do not ruin your experience. It totally does. But i also totally agree on that every story should be viewd blind :)
ty, of course i totally respect people not wanting to be spoiled, i can understand how spoilers ruin a story. my view is purely my own opinion
@@fancyman3206 Ah yeah i understand and in that regard i agree
What an amazing analysis of an amazing character!!
ty!
as manga reader my theory here spoilers:
We see that demon who destroy Stark villige is non other Rivale Bloody God of War, in the end The Monument of the Goddess we see that Hero Himmel has memories of Frierien time travel so we could determine Eisen also has. So here is my theory part of reason Eisen took Stark as his student is because he felt responsible for not killing Rivale back then.
shoot, ill have to come back to this after reading the manga, but ty for the comment!
Good video by the way.
oh shoot i didn't even realize that, thats on me. i had just went along with how its usually pronounced in english, i forgot the names were german lol. thanks tho!
stark is basically zenitsu but good
real
Great work, you’re a natural
ty!
good video. brought a tear to my eye.
ty!
@@fancyman3206 keep it up!!! :D
I think those people who want the pacing picked up will, much like Frieren herself, eventually come to understand the passage of time much more clearly-provided they live long enough. (40ish teams m years oughta do it)
This was really fancy , man
I am very sorry but great analysis anyways!!
lol ty!
Great video, thats a new sub 👍

Loved the vid keep up the work.

Stark is Zenitsu if he was a genuine person.
real
"Why bother trying, if im only going to fail? What does it matter?"
Good queston.
So he’s like zinetsu from demon slayer
but better >:)
Good video 👍
ty!
nice
ty!
20 minutes talking about my BOY? Don't mind if I do
At no point did Stark actually say he was going to go fight the demons. He always meant to go get Frieren. You can tell because he wasn't trembling at all
In that scene, he first states that someone has to stop the demons, implying himself and fern, and then says he wants to beg Frieren to do it
someone stole this video with AI bro, this is awesome and you deserve more views
ty for letting me know, tho i think i already know the guy ur talking about lol. i saw he plagiarized me and another youtuber, but neither of us could get through to him. ive decided to just report him and move on (tho idk if youtube will do anything lol) also ty for the kind words!
@@fancyman3206 Guess there is not a lot more to do, just be patient and move on, you've got amazing talent and charisma, so keep at it bro!
