The last 2 years are still the best we've had in years. Anyone would think we're still in the Lambert or Gerrard years listening to this. How about we focus on being Top 5 of the Champions League - a competition we spent years desperate to get into. It remains a very special time to be supporting this club. UTV.

I don't disagree Chris, but I also don't want this to be as good as it gets. I'm sure Emery doesn't either.

Yea, my fear is that we end up like Leicester. They did exceptionally well and ended up irrelevant a few years later. We only won 15 in 39 games in 2024, which is the bottom half of the table form. The defending has been as bad as I've ever seen. Tottenham could have scored 10 past us the other day. Conceding from our own corners, back passing in the box against Chelsea is crazy. In fact, it's pathetic. We really need to improve to move on as a club long term, not one or 2 seasons. I'm genuinely worried about how poor our defence is. The errors are constant. Guys in midfield arent doing it this year either. McGinn has not scored a league goal this season, its not really acceptable for an attacking midfield captain. Bailey is the same. It has to improve.

@@ChrisJackson-zp2zl I'd agree with most of wot you say, but we can't stop now, it's like we are happy to b very good, but somehow we mustn't get very, very good, I'm talking the next level , I want a title challenge, win a cup, ...not settle for champions league football

I honestly feel like the Villa we saw that qualified 7th for CL was better than the Pau Torres 4th place Villa, it sounds silly but hear me out, we finished 7th after throwing away 12 games. We had more clean sheets, solid defense and still scored goals for fun, slapped Newcastle, slapped Brighton etc. Since last season we've been conceding wayyy too many goals, we never had games like 5-1 Newcastle, now I get worried teams can run riot against us if we're not on it. At least then, we simply outscored teams, but even Sheff Utd and Burnley we conceded 2+ sometimes. This kind of form has been coming for a while.

Only 6 mins in, but I don't think it's as simple as saying nearly all of our problems are at the back. Defending starts from the front and as a team. Not retaining the ball further forward when we are tasked with playing in this very wide open way is killing us. It gives opposition momentum and belief. If we want to create we have to take risks with the ball, which can be forgiven but we are giving it away far too cheaply far too often. I think too many are blaming individuals at the back rather than this team as a whole and this style.
If Rogers took care of the ball a little better and didn't hit that slump in form where he kept giving the ball away or Bailey was last season Bailey, we'd not be seeing as many problems at the back.
Same can be said slightly for Watkins, if he didn't have that injury he is supposed to be carrying, maybe he buries a couple more chances & has more confidence which in turn results in him burying a couple more. Duran's been brilliant and has saved us with big moments of magic *shudders*... but as a team, we're still better with Ollie right now - really promising signs from Jhon all round game though.
That's 3 regular starters. Now add in Torres, Carlos, Konsa, Cash - 3 of these 4 will start... and everyone is blaming at least one or all of them...
That's 6 of the starting 11. That's a team problem. I know McGinn gets some online too. As has Onana quite a bit as well. It's the whole team bar Youri, Digne, and Bouba. And against Newc Bouba lost the ball for Gordon's goal; And Youri could have helped out Cash better stopping the shot.
Crazy thing is I think this side desperately needs more pace in it and someone getting to the byline, and Maatsen has it but Digne God bless him has been our most consistent performer and doesn't deserve dropping.
Emery wants to play this way. I assume without giving it away so cheaply. We either calm down and stick with it, like Emery is, or criticise Unai and the coaches, not indivdiual players imo...
I think we as a fanbase as a whole should calm down (not you guys, but seeing a lot of anger online) and stick with it, if Emery is.
I would prefer we revert back to building up with a back 3, but I am not UE.

Back in the 1990s Arsenal under Wenger were often criticised for trying to walk the ball into the net. In fact it became a joke with them. We try to do the same, difference is Arsenal were good at it! ‘Take more speculative shots’ would be my recommendation.

How sad that even with the technology we have, we have to devalue ourselves to *try* and get fair treatment from officials (try because we still won't get it probably!!!)

Absolutely great point, Rob. Unai has done amazingly well, and the bulk of the team are still players Stevie G would have been picking, and also came up from the Championship. This is a process, a building one, which is taking time. UTV

Didn't Watkins form suffer when we bought in Ings and improved drastically when he was sold. Becoming evident he can't deal with the pressure/competition of another player in his position (happening again now with Duran) and that's a big problem.

The times I see them just standing still while clubs have a kick about between them selves 😡 annoying, go attack 🙄
Can you do a window blog who you want to go and arrive 🤷‍♂️
    I say sell
Philogene ( whys he here )
Buendia ( not same since injury )
    Carlos ( 😡 )

The Juventus deal was all PSR related(very annoying but had to be done).

The summer window was poor Barrenechea, Iling Jnr, Dobbin were a waste of money.
Onana and Maatsen are average signings as squad players.
We need better quality - backup (GK) RB, CB, RM (RW), LM (LW), ST
Players that aren’t good enough imo is Olsen, Gauci, Carlos, Bogarde, Nedeljokvic, Philogene, Buendia, Bailey, Watkins

@ yes I know FFP was the reason but it has definitely affected us. Our squad is getting thinner with quality.
Onana is a defensive midfielder option and I think Tielemans is better than Luiz was. I think the big loss is Diaby as Bailey has dropped off ever since and Philogene is shocking.
