Probably the best demonstration on the internet of how it's not the instrument, but rather the player that creates their sound. I'm sure if someone had given him a $100 throw away kids toy trumpet Arturo would have made it sound like a professional horn. His demonstration of his tone with free lip buzzing only totally showcased where the Arturo sound is made. Wonderful clinic. Wonderful player. Amazing sharing person. Bravo!!!

I'm not a trumpeter but I enjoyed the whole workshop by this incredibly good and complete musician, Arturo Sandoval. During this COVID-19 pandemic, I'm studying every bit of workshops by Arturo on youtube. I'm actually a saxophonist in the United Kingdom and I like listening to music wisdom from experts. I like everything about him including piano and his jokes.he's made my day. Thanks

I have met Arturo a handful of time and have played with him on a big band that backed him up. I got to say he is a interesting guy. As far as musician and trumpet player I don’t think there is anybody in the planet that can play the trumpet like he can. Incredible! Is that a Harrelson trumpet he is playing?

I am impressed! I am from Haiti and love the trumpet...wow! sooo much dedication to learn such a powerful and delicate instrument. I wished someone gave him a cheap chinese trumpet to try loll (i have one)i watched the whole masterclass! i feel like i was present ...perhaps 6 years ago. Thanks Arturo for all you did for trumpet, your community, the United States and the world! Thank your Jeff Purtle for bringing me into the lecture class! THanks RUclips!!

Thank you Jeff for posting this video. Arthuro is a real deal. I personally want to thank him for mentioning Timofey Dokshitser . He truly raised the bar for classical trumpet players and inspiring many to pick up the horn and wanted to sound like him. To me Arthuro is a musician with his own face in music that always will stand out as unique and broad in range of magical ideas that we can always enjoy. ❤🎉 thank you maestro.

There are some funny parts to it too. Originally, I hired Arturo to just speak for 90 minutes. He went an hour over and we were running out of video tape and I was trying to cut him off. After he got on a roll he didn’t want to stop. It was fun and then afterwards I took him to dinner with some friends, one which was Peter Voisin, son of Roger. Arturo was telling Peter how his dad translated french for him when he was in France with Maurice Andre. Lots of fun stuff that weekend.

@@JeffPurtle I heard a story that Maurice went to see Arturo at a jazz club in Paris and saw the state of the hotel Arturo had been booked into. He took him Back to his massive place where they cooked, swam In Andre’s pool and Maurice gave Arturo a piccolo trumpet and taught him to play it.

    • @JeffPurtle

@@bd1845 I remember hearing that. I need to post some pictures of our dinner after this masterclass. Peter Voisin was dinner and Arturo told Peter that his dad Roger did translation at that even with Maurice Andre. I don’t think Peter knew that until that night.

Please share it with others. Arturo is a gem and it’s not an accident why he is great. He practices very hard and smart and consistently. My favorite part is when someone asks about if there is a secret. Yes! Smart consistent practice for years! He didn’t always play that great. In Los Angeles I played salsa gigs with a Cuban sax layer that had defected and knew Arturo and played in Mexico with him when he couldn’t play a High F! Everyone likes to think it’s just talent. Arturo has that too but the hard work matters more. Work will be rewarded if you are smart.

I actually know the guy and kind of snickered to myself. The story Arturo told about a student that didn’t practice was actually directed at a good friend of mine in the audience that Arturo had been frustrated with to get him to practice fundamentals. I knew what was going on because I knew more of the backstory but I still kind of laugh at that too and tease my friend to practice more. Arturo practices like a maniac and there is no substitute for that. I played with a Cuban sax player in Los Angeles that had known Arturo and loved in Cuba before and during Castro. He told me how Arturo didn’t used to be that great at high notes but practiced all the time. That was a fun thing to put together.
