How in the hell have I never heard of this wonderful talent.
It hurts a little and maybe it’s too soon to say there’s an upside to the pandemic... but... there’s a strong chance I would have never heard of Otis had it not been for Covid. Man I love your stories. I love your personality and the easy way you share your passion for music. There are people fortunate enough to find what they are born to do and you obviously are one of those rare birds. Your music and this song in particular is/are captivating. Thank you for seizing the moment and introducing yourself and your music to a whole new group of fans! Carpe Diem!
I'm 73 , I thought I was a pretty well versed country music fan,I saw some of this guy's stories & looked him up. It just blew me away He reminds me of the Hag and John Hartford I don't know how the hell I missed out so long
Why haven't more people seen this fella ?
Livin' proof that talent doesn't always achieve the rewards it deserves.
That happened to me, too, when I saw him on Austin City Limits, afterthe had died.
I immediately liked him and his music.
It was like "love at first sight."
@@candacewilliams9073 What? Otis Gibbs is alive!
First Time I heard this song I was driving to work one night on 3rd shift and was listening to sirus Xm outlaw country station. This song came on and I was blown away. Had it stuck in my head the rest of the night at work. Such a great song.
Great song, no doubt! Otis is kinda new to me... Seems like every day I run across another one that just blows away
Wow... this song sure does something to me. I used to live a different life.. i was a different person. But I didn't morph and shed my oldself .. just buried him. From time to time he flickers back.
This song really makes me realize... i have to make peace with him
I've listened to a few of your stories, but this was my first time hearing your music. Really good stuff!
Respect. That song is deep.
I remember a few years back when Otis Gibbs came to play at a venue I worked at in the Netherlands for an internship of school (Sound and Light engineer) and I loved the music and the stories between the songs. I loved working there and meeting and get to hear alot of artists I wouldn't normally get to know. I'm glad I got to know Otis Gibbs his music.
Great song , with a Tom T Hall feel
Frickin otis gibbs is amazing I love all his stories and his music he truly embodies what it means to be a musician who loves what he does
yep you’re the best Otis so glad happened upon your channel 🙌🏼🙏🏼🤙🏼
What a great song! My ears perked up when you said "Lake Michigan". Born and raised in Michigan. Spent many a day on the shores of Lake Michigan. Maybe you'll be by this way some day!
Wow. I'm sure Tony Rice just brought me here. Otis, who ever you are, you are officially on my list of RUclips tunes.🙌
Love when I find great, new (to me) music.
2021,,Valentine Sunday morning coming down,,good tune and keeping it simple is what will last. stay safe and Free.
Wow, great lyrics. You really described the human emotion and the ole Great Lake's culture well.
Sometimes we all need to see the darker side of me😎👍💙🎶
Love ❤️🔥
Hell yeah, I could definitely drank several cold ones and listen to this, and I just mite.
I wish I could’ve heard Johnny Cash sing this one. Happy enough with your version though.
Fuck. Every now and then somebody seeps up through the cracks with a real country song. This is it. Man, I've got days and days of listening to catch up on this dude.
I just started listing to his singing tonight been listen to his stories for sometime but never heard him sing he has a great voice and it will take me awhile to catch up.
What a great song.
It’s very seldom a new bluegrass type song comes along that I really like. Thank you for sharing this wonderful Performance on RUclips
How am I just hearing this?! OMG! REAL music again! 😁❤ (I married a Gibbs...he's also a musician, can't wait for him to "meet" you!😉)
Dude! I've been listening to this song for some months now as Spotify has been feeding it to me. I liked it and hummed along but my neuro-spicy brain has always found it difficult to hear lyrics, so when I was younger I learned to not listen very closely to that part but more the "vibe" of the songs. Discovering country/Americana/folk has been so wonderful because I can understand most ot the lyrics! So, the 20th time I listened to this song, I remembered I could pay attention the words and I discovered a really fascinating and kind of sweetly brutal song. I love it so much more now!
This is a great song. I named my 'Darker Side' Vic. He's gotten me jailed, busted up and married more than a few times. As I look back each experience was about the same. 'Vic' would get a glazed look in his eye and 'The Darker Side of Me' showed up uninvited. Listening to your adventures sung to great music shines a light on those forgotten times.
Lived em and loved em, thanks for taking me back there👍
Truly great song whose quality is that it could have been written in the 1950s or 1970s, but is right at home in the early 21st century. Thanks for the songs, American folk is better for it.
I only heard his name this morning and came to give a listen. Wow!! Instantly added to my favorites!
I like this tune. Great lyrics and picking fellas.
Nice to see my friends Sergio and Thomm here. Always great to see them, live or on film.
put his name next to Guthrie, and Prine, and Van Zant
I never heard of you. I hit upon one of your videos and ended up subscribing. Now I've heard one of your incredible songs. What a talent!
Damn Otis, you've grown on me like kudzu vine. First, I found you on RUclips telling great stories and my interest was peaked. Now I'm hooked on your music. Keep up the great work and I hope that one day our paths cross.
I’ve watched a lot of your interview videos, which I love, but this is the first time I’ve heard your music. Excellent! I’m so glad I found your channel. It brings a lot of peace to my day. Take care of yourself.
Wonderful..Thank U Ottis
Can't believe I'm just discovering Otis. I've found his great stories usually cover old musical heroes of mine and his taste and humor seem to run parallel. I enjoyed that great musical scene in the D.C. area during the 70's and could usually be found when any great music was being showcased at the Cellar Door, the Childe Harold, the Birchmere and all the other great music venues around D.C. so I imagine we may have bumped into each other at some time along the way. I have turned on a couple friends who also have become fans and relish his music and stories. Keep up the great stories Otis!
How did I ever miss hearing this guy? Gladly sending $10 your way Otis
Otis is a geordie!!! Loved the concert in gosforth, newcastle upon tyne..howway the lads!
Love this Otis Gibbs Standard ❤
2:06 shows the Quayside in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. My hometown. I saw Otis play in July on the free outdoor stage at the Sage Gateshead Americana festival, on the banks of the river. Absolutely pouring down rain, freezing cold and sitting on a muddy hill, but nobody left.
It was a really special gig. Everyone kept edging closer together to keep warm, listening to some of the best music I've heard in years, in, despite the weather, one of the best venues for music in the world.
It was the first time id ever heard Otis Gibbs , and he was a lovely guy when I met him afterwards too. I've not been able to stop listening to him since!
Thanks for the music Otis :)
Heard this song years ago on a shuffle playlist and loved it but lost it. Been listening to alot of your stories recently and then just found this again, small world
Think I need to listen to that song again. Again.
This song is quite amazing. Love me some Otis.
Otis, I love all you videos of all the great country singers. But, there is no better song than this one. It's became one of my favorites. God Bless!
Just Started Listening to your Stories. Decided To listen to your music. Awesome! I am an instant fan!
This tune kept appearing on Spotify. I loved it immediately. Hearing your voice was like hearing the voice of old beloved friend that I hadn't heard in a long time. Familiar yet slightly different.
As a sconnie it struck me that you weren't just guessing about our great state. I love this song, and as dark as it is it sure can make me homesick.
Ok , Mr. Gibbs you got the stuff they call the right stuff.Tell on , story teller.
Great tune. My first time hearing him
Great Tune, Otis!🎶👍🎵🎶👍🎵
Great 👏👏👏👏💜💜💜 gives me a warm feeling in these cold times .
This is one of those songs you wish was a movie
I’m hearing so much kris kristofferson I’m in awe!
Great track Otis! Also it's always cool to Mark Fain out in the wild, I've played a lot of music with that man.
Love your music and your podcasts. There's nothing better than good real story telling music.
The first time I heard this song was when Otis was opening for Todd Snyder in Grand Rapids, Mi. I loved it and I have listened to it many times since then
Sometimes I feel like the darker side of me is the one driving through this life, but when I hear this song i can feel that lighter side creeping up inside.
Another timeless song from Otis Gibbs.
Real music for real times. I needed to whine down after a long week at work and a much needed distraction from the insanity of my world so I clicked onto this channel.
Keep up the good work Otis.
A really brilliant masterpiece song. It clearly breathes the heart and the spirit of Elvis 1969, with Reggie Young on guitar.
Great song😍
I’ve been watching your channel a while.... I apologize for never hearing your music, I’m not apologizing to you. I’m apologizing to my ears! Great music!
Damn !!! I have been listening to your stories here on RUclips all the time. That was how I got familiar with you.. I never thought to listen to you sing and play. Lol. Your BADASS !!! Wow you have gained another fan !!!
Now I have to catch up. LOL
I love the stories in this guy's songs.
This one always makes me sad. Man is just trying to do right and keep the wolves away and somebody always has to fuck it up. We can only try. Great song. Great story. Otis Gibbs.
I love your interviews and now I know your music and love it. Your voice reminds me of Glen Campbell on Wichita Lineman. Jesus man you are great.
Sweet. God bless America.
'If we meet inside a boxcar may you never see the darker side of me'. What a tagline! Great storytelling, Otis. Just enough detail to move the story along and let the listener's imagination fill in the rest. Outstanding!
Wonderful tune, glad I clicked this.
One of my all time favourite songs. Thanks Otis
You know you’ve just experienced a great song when at the end you pop back into the here and now and realize that you’ve been somewhere else for the past five-odd minutes.
Just heard your song dark side of me, for the first time. " Love it".....
great songwriting the melody moves it along ...nice otis
Not sure how I made it to 42 years old without hearing your music before, but I'm glad I found you now.
This reminds me of a job I quit on the spot. Trust me, I got paid including vacation time I had accrued, he never saw it coming from quiet, little old me 🥸 I’m now self-employed 🙂
Great tune sir.
...this song , was the first one of yours I have heard, ,, nice one !, nice and mellow, ..and lyrics ! X
Okay, I really *like* this, a lot. I've been watching your interview and story videos; this is the first time the algorithm recommended your music. I'll be catching up on what's here, and likely buying some albums. Great stuff!
Your music is a gift that keeps giving. Thank you🎼
Good job Otis!
Love your interviews so much and now THIS. MERCY, Otis.
Really great lyrics!!!
Beautiful song, Otis. I've been watching a lot of your videos about other artists and now I've heard some of your music I'd love it if you did a gig in Ireland sometime. I'm not a promoter but I'd make sure you got a good crowd in cork!
This song sounds like it could have been written by Merle Haggard . Good stuff!
One of my favorite artists is Jason Isbell. His song "Live Oak" is a modern day murder ballad. It's another one about a man with a dark side.
Really good and I'm just finding Otis Gibbs and in this video I can see that he has been very close to me and used the Ironbridge in his video nice one Otis 👍👏👏👏👏👏
Just incredible I loved it
That was an amazing work of Art why cant i write like ThaT ,love it like pure genius

Thank you for simply being real.

Outstanding! Great tune and great story.
Love me some Otis. I grew up in the sticks just a few miles from Gillsburg
Great song!
I've always loved this song but for the longest time, failed to connect the dots back to the peaceful & mellow Ottis Gibbs.
Wow, how good is Thomm Jutz ?
Otis is amazing! He oozes depth and authenticity. Love you Otis!
Been listening to Otis for only a short while. Great music and great storytelling too! Fact.
This is a great song! Thanks Otis!
Just discovered you Otis, new fan here, I love this song, you've got a classic right there man, look forward to catching up on your work, keep on rollin!
Brand new to Otis Gibbs...I discovered him speaking about Jimi Hendrix on RUclips...I'm sold!
