- Visited the wonderful porch of Sabine McCalla, and her wonderful little canine friend, while on a little jaunt to New Orleans last year. I'd heard her name a few times, and actually met her however briefly at the Sister St house in the lower 9th, dancing the night away to the strums of guitars and the reverberation of fiddles. She doesn't remember me from that night, all the better as I was just a weirdo with a little miniDV cam, like the kid from American Beauty filming the paper bags in the wind. You can see her in this video, along with a few other weirdos you might know ( • Camden Pugh, "Go 'long... ).
Anyhow, on this visit she treated me to two songs, and this one is about the dreaded Tall Lonesome Cowboy man that sweeps into your life, sweeps you off your feet, then drops you on the ground. As I said in the video, I've met quite a few of them in my time, and though they never romanced me, they sure can be annoying. This one is about someone we both knew, she confided in me. I'll have to leave y'all guessing as to exactly who though.

As someone who got the privilege of being Sabine’s drummer for a couple years, I have to say to all the TLC’s out there not to go snakes and waterfalls and stick to river and lakes with catfish in them. Okay! Really though, proud of ya buddy it sounds damned fantastic.

Found out my father in law is dying in the hospital today, and can’t go see him. My wife is being touched by misery for the first time in the worst way is can be experienced. I didn’t get to say goodbye to my own years ago, cancer left him a shell. Here we are again.....losing a father to both of us. I prided myself on being the fixer, fir her and everyone around me. Well I can’t put a wrench on this one for her. Fucking life man, I was diagnosed with hiv this year too, the woman stayed by my side. What a beautiful tragedy this whole thing is, this life.
Goodbye to Pap, the lonesome cowboy who lived on a mountain on The Appalachian Trail, and who’s favorite daughter is my Angelina. The song will always remind me of the morning I saw a look on my wife’s face I saw on my own Years ago, one I prayed I would have to see. 😥
