They didn't change it. If you look at the slow-mo replay on another video, she clearly grabs Jillian's key by mistake. And I agree, Jillian deserved it many times more. Gary was out of the game for like 3-4 weeks for some r&r time.
Alex Staggenborg he was out for two weeks before coming back and before and after coming back he was pretty much competing for himself while Jillian had a showmance and her allies

Alec got so caught up thinking about the chess board he didn't think with his instincts. He probably could have won, or at least gone farther if he kept Aj. It's ironically the same issue to why he didn't want Topaz to help Gary during Tom's HoH, that he thought there was no value to working with people he deemed "would be out in a few weeks." Honestly, that's probably why he dropped Topaz as soon as the twist occurred. She was suddenly leaving the house soon, and he distanced himself hard. Evicting Andrew would have weakened Emmet and Jillian in favor of keeping Topaz who was loyal to him.
