The Circuit was the gateway drug for me into DAWless/groovebox production and I still love it years later. It's still one of the best designed setups for fast, intuitive music making, and there's a surprising amount of power for people willing to dig into it. Also, it's how we discovered each other's channels!

I recently got into music production and had done a lot of research on what groovebox I should start off with. I found your channel (Gabe Miller) and I decided to get the Novation Circuit because of how much you talked about it 😂
But then, I found that it did not fit my workflow at all and the sound was not had I imagined unfortunately.... Also, I broke it so I decided to get a different synth. I did some more research and went with the Maschine mk3. That machine is a beast 😭😭😭
It comes pre-loaded with over 2000 sounds and the workflow and sound quality is almost that of professional producers. It's absolutely insane.
Anyways, the Novation Circuit is good, and fun to work with, but unfortunately it just did not fit my style lol .

I couldn't believe how easily I threw everything together, just sitting down for 10 minutes with it. I've barely used it yet, and have yet to upgrade the firmware and dive into it deeper. With all the external synths I have now, it's going to be a big change. I have a Tama Techstar TS305 and TS204, that I'm going to pair up with this and a Beatstep Pro. It's gonna get weird. Quick!!

What I like so much about the circuit, that it feels like a handson instrument where you can express yourself musically without knowing much about music. This is rare.
I can't play any instruments, never owned any and have very little experience. I was looking for something for my son. Saw one in a pawn shop and couldn't resist. Really good purchase, it's easy to get into and picking up is features comes just by using it.
Just wish I could transfer the melodies I have in my head to key presses. I also bought an Arturia beat step, hoping to set the tones using the dials.
After this I bought a midi controller (taktile), behringer neutron, donner b1, volca drum & a poly end tracker. I'm looking at the Behringer edge & a mixer.
You changed my life with the circuit, I’m pretty hyped for Tuesday but I’m happy I moved up to the Maschine Plus, it fits my work flow really well
Honestly the way Novation develops its products further after release is just fantastic. You buy a good product and it becomes great and classic.
That could or could not be interesting as this seems like the original was pushed to the max and this is really the original with an sd card 2 midi tracks same effects a built in battery so it seems they stuck with the core of the original added a few good bits on but probably no where as near alot they can do with the firmware but we will see
Immediacy of operation and flexibility has kept this on my desk since day 1. And thank you for all your help with getting me started back then. Good to see the love still there for it.

Havnt seen his vid. deluge is triple the price and way more complicated. So to some I think it just becomes a matter of how deep you want to go. A bit like digitakt vs octatrack, where Octa is very powerful but also requires so much more energy spent on it.
Exactly what I needed to see after missing out on Jamuary due to pure laziness. Thanks as always Bo, your channel is a mainstay in my circle of inspirations. Also Coffee & Beats Vol. 2 is awesome and breathed new life into my Circuit :D

Man the way korg abandoned Electribe users instantly breaks my heart whenever I think about. That box had so much going for it just needed a few simple updates but instead we never got even the most basic problems fixed.
Korg says, "Updates? Lol. Who do you think I am? Novation?"
@@ToyKeeper seems kinda unfair to dog korg like this, plenty of volca updates and minilogue (both xd and non-xd) updates. prologue, etc.

I thought Korg didn't do updates, because I have seven Korg products and they haven't gotten updates which didn't require buying new hardware with a "+" on the end of the name. Sound like I just picked the wrong products.

Bo Man, you really inspired me to go away from the DAW tonight and get out the circuit. Thanks for inspiring me with your short sketches of songs. I can say after one hour back with the circuit it feels great, very creative out of gate. The synth gets the juices flowing. Twisting the knobs like no other synth makes happy mistakes happen.
I was about 10 minutes in using my circuit and my head was bobbing just like yours in the video :). Brings a smile to see you also enjoy this synth.

Hi Bo! Great video - never owned a Circuit - I went the Electribe route and don;t regret it but I understand 100% why you love these machines. My mate Inky swears by them and she knows....!!!
I first heard of the circuit from your channel and fell instantly in love with it. This has always been a go to device for jaming quickly when I felt the mood to. I was frustrated of its only 4 drum sounds so I ended up searching for a replacement. I found the MC101 and I'm very happy with it even though the synth controls aren't that accessible than with the circuit.
Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for this channel.
So intuitive as a writing tool, the workflow is so easy to understand and get ideas now. Have expanded to get the monostation and now the sl mk3 as my main studio sequencer as a result. Its influence cannot be underestimated, I'm interested in seeing the new version launched tomorrow!

I think it is that hands on live performance capability that makes the Circuit so amazing. I was introduced to it by a Ricky Tinez video where he said he used it as part of his live rig because he knew it so well he could just jam with it on the spot in a gig. I totally know where he is coming from, I love the performance aspect, and once you start exploring there is so much you can do with the box. My only wish is that you could program flips by editing a step rather than by playing. There are workarounds but they are just a little clumsy and not as quick as everything else.
You led me to buy a circuit as my first piece of equipment 2-3 years ago and honestly its been one of my best purchases so far, its honestly an amazing piece of tech that surprises me more and more over the years! I still use it all the time and use it to drive my other synths as well.
Can i use at a sequencer and play multiple sequences at one time with different sounds?🎉

Wow, I didn’t think the circuit made the move to the new studios. Bo’s circuit videos were my first intro to BoBeats.
the original circuit was the thing that reignited my love of making dance music. I had tried some various bits of older gear before that from the s/h market but they just didn't feel intuitive and user friendly and at times had really frustrating quirks that I couldn't work around. the circuit was the thing that got me back into really enjoying making loops and just enjoying the process of laying something down quick and easy. I would agree that the sound engine isn't it's strongest point but it's great that it's patchable and we can coax some really interesting and unique tones out of it. more than anything it's been central in my work since I got it because it's just so useful, flexible and fun!
A wonderful groovebox, no doubt. Great portability, excellent user interface, intuitive and very fun to play with.
I got one ages ago, and I bought the mono station too. I’ve never really got on with them. I kinda like the circuit as a basic drum machine, but I struggle to do much else with it. I think the problem is I never invested the time to learn how to get the most out of it.
Just saw the ad about tomorrow Novation event. I really can’t wait!!! So exited 🙈😎😄

I’ve been holding out for an update to the Circuit so I can get it. I hope it doesn’t disappoint and that it becomes the obvious choice over the mc101.

for me, i found the JDxi was very inspiring..only 4 tracks but a nice seq and good sounds plus the vocoder/autopitch
I had to pack everything up to move, and have left it all in its cases, as one does. Hearing you browse those synth sounds made me want to dig the Circuit out.
Cant wait until the Circuit Rythm & Tracks comes out! Hopefully ill finally get to decide what sampler to get
The circuit was my first electronic instrument. I've gotten many more since, and sold plenty as well but the circuit is one that outlived many hypes in my rig.
That was my gateway too! Since getting it I also got an op-z, mc 101 and a deluge. The latter seems like all those combined into one super device but I still hold the circuit near and dear

I like your enthusiasm Bo 😎 I found the original Circuit to be good for quick jams and entry level synth sounds but I got a bit fed up of the editing capabilities (frustrating, random and restrictive without the use of a computer). I’m really enjoying the Circuit Mono, the analog synth/cv outs/digital sequencer combo is a winner for me. Loving your new studio set up btw 👍

The Circuit was my gateway drug as well. It is the one piece of hardware I would never willingly get rid of. From the groovebox functionality, to using it as a sequencer and / or controller, it is infinitely useful and inspirational.
How can you programme change the synth in the box for productions ...im envious of the bass nation 2/ circuit mono, update that has the patch flip / synth per not option...

I picked up the Circuit because of your demos and this channel has provided a ton of inspiration for my exploration of the synth world. Thanks Bo! Looking forward to what’s happening next with the Circuit family.
Hardware has some advantages over a computer. Two handed tactile and fast access to music via natural articulation has a gigantic advantage over a mouse or flat tablet. Hardware has limitations, these limitations focus your attention on what you have. And, hardware never changes (unless you want optional firmware) so you get to know hardware on the highest and deepest levels. After throwing a perfectly good audio/MIDI/control interface in the trash because Window7 would not accept it, I ended my computer recording days with the purchase of a ZoomR24 hardware recorder. All my synths and groove boxes are hardware too. Since going 100% hardware I have recorded over 60 albums - albums recorded on a computer = zero.
Is it a standalone machine or can it integrate with a dj set from ioneer. So i can use it on stage?

This groovebox is so quick to get jumping into. Now that they've released the Circuit Rhythm and Tracks, the price has dropped to a great entry level price. I bought one for 270 over a year ago. It's nice that people with lower budgets can get a groovebox, with more possibilities than anything under 300 bucks!

I agree with what you are saying here and only didn't get one because I felt as though it would cause me to ignore all the other things in my studio I spent so much $ on already. Thanks to Covid however I recently realized I miss this style box because I have been using Elektron Cycles heavily for the past year since I got it. Now I am highly interested in the Roland Verselab, do you feel that what you say about the Circuit will equally apply to that? I have a feeling it will & more!

If the SP series didn't exist I probably would've made a RUclips channel about the novation circuit instead. It has everything I want in a groovebox and nothing that i don't. It's such a fun little box and an amazing midi controller/sequencer 💜🌊
I just got completely onto the dawless hype train by treating myself with my first groovebox. Although it was not the Circuit, but the Digitakt, many of the core pro-arguments are just as applicable.

Awesome! I can get a Novation Circuit used at a good price... but it has no charger or cables... what would I need to pick up?
I've been thinking about getting one but noticed that even the refurbished ones from the Novation store have been sold out for a while and of course we know that Novation is going to announce the new one on February the 9th.
I look forward to seeing what the new one offers and but still might try to pick up a used a refurbished first gen sometime down the road just to see what the original is like.

I have two novation circuits also. I also have the new arturia keystep pro that i got myself for christmas. but, if i think whats going to happen tomorrow (feb,9th) do happen, the keystep pro will be in the closet and up for sale!!!
And there is new circuit devices from novation on the horizont already !
Just like you said, buying the circuit led me to more creativity, and I must say that's this little box will remain in my memory for a looong time ! BUT! The issue I have with it these days is that switching and installing the packs I gathered along the past 3years has led the patches to be very different in terms of volume/intensity, and that disappoint me... I currently only use it as a sequencer, except for the drums that I use a lot ! But this synth will be Legendary in the end ^^
Can I use it without a computer? Like, can I make beats and loop if I'm just going into my speakers?

I still want a compact, very fun, and immediate groovebox. I keep bouncing between this and Model: Cycles despite them being pretty different. I just want to fiddle with the Circuit. Very inviting interface.
My 2 cents, having owned a Cycles, is that it is held back so much by its terrible input layout. Having to remember which keys are sharps, not being able to play notes from multiple octaves on a single track, etc. If you don't mind being tied to a midi keyboard though it does sound amazing, particularly with Ctrl All functions and the way the distortion musically increases with how much is happening at once.

I write my backing tracks on the Circuit, copy the midi tracks to my MPC Live and tweak and record guitar etc from there.
I have old synths, new synths, sequencers and toys of all sorts, the Circuit is my favourite sketchpad of all time with the only close competitor in my arsenal being the Mc505.
One more thing, it's also kid friendly!!
I have 2 running with a lauchpad Pro MK3 synced together.
so basically 8 midi sequencers with drum samples .
I’m about to purchase a second hand circuit for $210. Would it be better to wait for the announcement on the 9th and save my cash toward the circuit 2? Or is the circuit still worth the buy? Thanks

prologue if you want a great keybed and overall better build + more voices. But the XD is almost as good I feel, overall.

I love my Circuit to bits. It's my sequencer brain for my setup. The only thing I want from a Circuit II is more drum polyphony.
The sound engine is really good, much deeper than the surface itself reveals, just not easily penetrable and the presets/patch slots are limited and a particular taste. You really need a full time controller like the launchpad xl in unison with it to really get into it. Having said that, there is a Novation sound relative to the competition, rather bright, edgy and in your face. There's a ton of debate over the microkorg vs. micronova sound, and that's really a matter of taste (even when the microkorg is a deeper machine).
I had this thing for a long time and ive no idea how to save anything. Nothing on the net for me either. People talk about saving patches and different things but I can't find basic info about saving a session.
O.o! I know, Bo! Will the new Circuits have more than one minute of total sample time? Will they have Sample flip?. And oh yeah-howsabout direct track export via USB into DAWs?!? The suspense is killing meh! :-) Greetings form Oregon to Sweden-love your new studio! :-)
