The fact they’re adding _new designs,_ alongside recreating old (original) designs, and even keeping standard enemies to the original GC game’s design versus later PM entries, is really good to see. I don’t know if IS is making it, but they’re at least acknowledging unique designs (and a proper battle system) which hopefully influences future games.
The audience is also more active and lively than the original hopefully they bring new powers and of course partners' moves too could be upgraded even more.
@@quangamershyguyyz7166 They acknowledged how much people loved this game to put this much effort, so it's still a good sign and gives more hope that the series will return to its roots. They even remade Super Mario RPG, so it's as if they suddenly care about Mario RPGs again.
It is, in fact, being made by IS. In the separate trailer on RUclips and Twitter, you can see the copyright information and it confirms IS is making it
@@quangamershyguyyz7166I think it depends. A remake obviously doesn't take as much time as a new game, so if a new game was already in the works at the same time or before this one, it might not. If they're not starting a new game until after this, I have a bit more hope. They could just say "we're just being authentic to the original game" and label it as a one-off, but I'm not ready to give up hope just yet. If they had the mindset of "we're just doing a carbon-copy remake that won't affect anything going forward", why make a _new_ Toad variant? Not that that specific one will be used again, but to me that implies they're interested in doing more than the bare minimum (character design wise).
One detail I’m surprised you didn’t mention: The Trouble Center now has a sign on the building similar to shops and ins. Probably to make it more obvious to the players and lower the risk of flat out ignoring the place thinking it’s another random house.
Yup, that's a very good case of game design improvements. I fully suspect they'll have done something to alleviate the backtracking in certain chapters as well. Anything that causes players to completely miss major game elements is something to be improved upon.
Hopefully, in the remake, they'll include the original partners from Paper Mario. Originally, they were going to appear in the original where you could talk to them, but they were scrapped, except Bow. I really hope Nintendo makes this happen in the remake.
Well, technically Parakarry had a cameo too, since he appears in the intro, but he might not count since you can’t interact with him. Honestly, it would be a real surprise if they let you recruit all the old partners again just for the heck of it. Maybe just as an extra bonus after beating the game, so they don’t need to write them new dialogue.
Probably yes would be perfect if Mario's other partners from Paper Mario come back and Bow of course will reappear and Parakarry in intro but in actual game would be lovely, appearing in different places and saying hi and maybe have new places too, thought original Paper Mario would be remaked but TTYD is great and okay, Super Paper Mario may also be remastered soon!
I really like how in order to make TTYD's fluid character animation style fit with the modern Paper Mario aesthetic, they switched from having the characters being drawn on a single piece of paper (like they were post-Sticker Star) to having multiple little joints layered on top of each other. So now, instead of needing to redraw the entire character to make a new pose and thus needing to adopt a snappy keyframe-like animation style, they can just smoothly move the individual pieces around.
I didn't think it was possible to add even MORE charm to one of the most charming games of all time! I also didn't notice the updated voice text either. Still one of the greatest games of all time! Back then, and still is!
The picture of the Paper Mario 1 partners is also a reference to Super Paper Mario. In that game Mario has both that picture and a picture of the TTYD partners. Obviously he doesn't have the TTYD one yet, so now it's the the PM1 partners.
I can’t believe TTYD is getting a remaster for the Switch. It’s simply mind boggling and I can’t wait to play it! One detail that was missed is that certain animations are faster now. For example the blue stairs in Glitzville unfold much faster compared to the original. The stairs in Hooktail’s Castle also flip sides much more quickly too.
Yeah I noticed that too--so was the Peach transition. I really hope it's actually that way in the game and not just sped up for the trailer; that's a great quality of life change, even if it may seem small
The part about Luigi being dressed as a bride and Luigi being grass in a play were my favorite parts and seeing that in the game would be amazingly great. xD
Them going out of their way to add even little new touches like the charachter expressions is a good sign their taking this seriously. If it does well it'll mean great things for the future of the series.
Hopefully the next Paper Mario game will be much more like this instead of the last couple of them. That is assuming we'll ever get another Paper Mario game.
I'd love if they added scenes where your partners have dialogue with each other. Would be fun to see their personalities bounce off one another. And though I know this is less likely, it'd be cool if they added Wario as a recurring boss in the vein of Jr. Troopa who wants to find the treasure before Mario and ends up recruiting his own party of partners that add a twist to each subsequent fight.
Different dialogue sounds is such a good change. In Super Paper Mario in particular, it gets really confusing to keep track of who is saying what, especially with multiple characters on screen. Also, it’s funny how the characters more like plastic figures than paper to deemphasize the paper thing
They look more like cardstock than plastic. Also the dialogue sounds are clever for a game that doesn’t have any voice acting! Really genius idea on their part if I’m being honest.
This is looking great! It kinda feels like Intelligent Systems actually listened to the fans of Paper Mario wanting a remake of this game, but had to wait a while for Nintendo to give the green light.
Since we’re bringing up things that weren’t changed like Luigi in the audience, one other thing is that they kept the noose hanging in the middle of Rogueport. I wouldn’t have been surprised if they cut that, but it’s still there to make the game subtly dark! 😊
The visual is really different too, like many elements during the combat are more 3D papercraft aspect, the squid for example, or even the trees. Its clearly not just a remaster, it was remade in severall levels.
I mean, the visuals being redone from the ground up doesn't point to it being more than a remaster. It's possible it could be a full-on remake based on the addition of new NPC's, but it might also just be a complete visual revamp on the same gameplay as before, like Metroid Prime Remastered
Bowser probably calls Kammy Koopa a Lunkhead now as a reference to King K. Rool's go-to insult for General Klump and Krusha in the Donkey Kong Country cartoon.
This remake is looking positively beautiful. I didn't even notice the back sprites for the partner characters at first. What a revolution! Fortunately, every detail that we loved about the original is also intact or improved. Great stuff. 2024 can't come soon enough. Still can't believe it will have been 20 years since the release of this marvelous game.
Im really hoping that the tattle check button is to check and see if you already tattled on an enemy because keeping track of which ones you have logged already was a CHORE before
Well, I never bothered to tattle if already had the peekaboo badge equipped, and if you didn't have peekaboo you simply wouldn't see their HP and that would let you know. I don't know if that's just for the sake of wanting a log of every enemy for completion goals. I think the point of it is too see the full description whenever you want, such as its behavior and defense.
I would love it so much and it would be so in character for the game if that purple toad says something like: 'What do you mean I wasn't in the original? I've been here all along'
I’m just hoping *Toadsworth* isn’t scrapped in this new version of the game and still forgotten by *Nintendo* . Considering that he was at the beginning of the game warning *Mario* on what happened to *Peach* .
Toadsworth will appear Kammy Koopa is in trailer and she will still appear, Toadette will appear to help Mario I think she will wear her current pink outfit and not orange like the original so she will look different with her current outfit but everything else is same.
Speaking of TEC's newly red eye: when it speaks, the light flashes! Since you said the rest of the party was on the blimp in the cutscene, I wonder if they'll all talk when they arrive? Each one had a different line during cutscenes that plays if they're active, so I wonder if there's any way to see all of those lines in the same playthrough. A neat detail I noticed is that every single element has what appears to be thickness to them, a bit of white just past their outlines of things like character pieces and certain objects. You can really see it when it zooms in on them, like when Peach is shown, and it kinda makes sense with the angle the camera's at. That just adds to the aesthetic of everything being made of paper!
One detail you didn't mention was that the boggly woods floor seems to have color animations now instead of being static! The atmosphere looks amazing in this remake already!
One thing I hope that changes in this game is that you can choose what color yoshi you can have once you get him in Glitzville instead of letting the game pick for you randomly
My hopes are that Ryota Kawade is back to direct this one. He was in charge of the first 3. Either way it looks incredible but I really hope he’s back.
I noticed there being room for another digit in the coin counter in the battle part of the trailer. Hopefully this means we can hold more than 999 coins.
I think yes we can hold more than 999 coins, looking like 9999 coins like Sticker Star and Color Splash or 99999 coins, Origami King was 999,999 coins that would be very nice since the more the better to hold but not likely, we'll see when it gets released and in future traliers.

I really love the big and small details also as me being a fan of attention to detail, I've noticed some stuff too that you missed. I love that there's separate parts and shadows like ambient occlusion on the characters. Such as legs or arms. Also I noticed that there's fresnel now on the characters. That little sheen around the characters to make them pop more.
I am being spoiled with the remakes I can re play Mario RPG and now my favorite paper Mario Vivian such a icon that been forgotten just like Geno excited for these two remakes to come out
I'm honestly curious about that myself, they seem to be paying respect to the original jp release so it's possible, but at the same time many including myself have called Vivian by female pronouns for so long they may keep that particular change. I think even Super Smash Bros. still refers to Vivian as a she.
@@solidneptune6423 they have shown more flexibility regarding LGBT issues since. Could go either way but they must know it'll attract some level of fuss either way.
@@theshadowdirector I wouldn't mind either way honestly, grew up with the localized ver and found out its history as I got into my teens. I don't mind whether I call Vivian a she or them (Although I'll probably always call Vivian a she due to childhood habit). But yeah it's a lose-lose scenario here in regards to the EN ver. On one hand people who don't know about the change will call it forced(without doing the research) if they do, and the other people who'll call them Transphobic if they don't.
Is a curious case, as in my country version this was uncensored, so Its gonna be a little bit weird if this got censored somehow. Is hard to tell, as probably this remake is gonna be based on the japanese original version, but I think were gonna still see a bit of censorship with things that was out of place imo (you know, the crime scene in Rogueport)
The "loading screen" before it shows Peach is MUCH faster and doesn't linger on screen like how the original did! Assuming they just didn't speed that up for the trailer, Mario & Bowser's loading screens will probably be just as fast. 😎
I played the original one and finished yes and this remaster looks even more exciting now the characters are showing more expressions like the recent Paper Mario games.
Great video! I learned a lot of new stuff here especially about the back sprites and using the original Japanese logo as inspiration! Another thing I noticed in this trailer is that more things now have a paper aesthetic such as the various switches Mario can hit.
Really love how instead of simplifying the visuals and attention to detail, they added way more, tastefully and faithfully too. Like the picture of the original cast of partners and the map from the first Paper Mario, or showing all the partner members in the blimp with Mario. The fact that they put so much care into remastering this game and acknowledging how much people love the first 2 Paper Mario games really makes me hope the series will return to its roots and become a proper turn-based RPG again.
I know a tattle check might seem insignificant but that's a quality of life improvement. If that's in the game I can only imagine what they've done to really flesh out this game.
In the minority that thinks this remake.doesnt need to exist But I appreciate the amount of love being put in..beyond surprising they made original characters when they're straight up not allowed to for sequels
you guys forgot to add that when the trailer showed the Mario Bros. residents the house was attached to a blue building like there was something behind it you can see it when it shows Parakarry delivering mail
I really hope this means nintendo is going to be more open to making new and original characters in the future. Even up through origami king they did not want to make new npcs and instead just used generic toads, Goombas and bob ombs. Hopefully this means that we see more enemies with clothes in the future.
I have to say, I am looking forward to seeing the release of my favorite Nintendo role-playing game. The paper universe is a significant icon that I describe in my younger days. A relaxing way to maneuver your hands anywhere rather than in one place with the Cube.
Like Tris was mentioning earlier this game is hard to find & expensive on ebay. I never got a chance to buy this game & im glad it's remastered & going to be released for the Switch.
I don't know if I'd really call it a detail, but I noticed that the character designs here are actually pretty similar to the artwork for Sticker Star. They had more of a felt-looking texture there, whereas here they look like some kind of thick crafting paper, but it uses the same layered style. The 3DS obviously was not powerful enough to pull that off, so it didn't translate in Sticker Star. After, they really leaned into the paper aspect and made everything completely flat. I wonder if they went back to the layered craft style since it seems like the direction they were looking to take things originally.
u nailed on every detail i've noticed and missed except one or 2 things. 1. mario never took battle stance when touched by enemies to start battle in OG but new one did. 2. when battle starts, enemies does their own intro animation. (and also their attack animation like blooper is more expressive).....also minor thing, mario's counter attack spin looks a lot slower than the OG
One thing I did notice, when it shows the clip of the blue boxes getting unfolded in Glitzvile, you can see some characters in the Fresh Juice Shop window, and I think (could be wrong) not only do we see Podley in the window, but by the door, I think I can see a toad head, which could be Ms. Jolene
If there's any new content, I hope it's the waffle kingdom stuff so we can finally get a Princess Eclair design, especially with that Mario/Nintendo Princesses rumor about
The Airhead/Lunkhead change is a localization thing. He says Lunkhead in the Japanese version, and with the logo and TEC color change, it looks like we're getting a remake based more on the Japanese version exclusively, which is great. The preservation of content, free of censors and pointless alterations is always a good thing.
#17: the buttons on the UI are color-coded to their colors in the Super Famicom and new Nintendo 3DS variants: A being red, Y being green, most likely B being yellow and X being blue as well.
Super Mario RPG remaster allows you to replay bosses I'm guessing similar features to this too and made battling even more fun and easier hopefully here too.
It’s been so long that when I watched the trailer it completely went over my head just how much the graphics and designs really changed. Seeing this many little changes in the trailer alone makes me hopeful they could even add a little extra content, like extra post game content, or an added side quest mini game or some cameos from other characters in the mario universe or something. But honestly I’m just hoping more than anything it leads to a new game in the style of the first 2. After origami king, I decided I would finally give up on Paper Mario and would not be buying into the franchise anymore. If the next trailer for a new Paper Mario game they show isn’t a true RPG like TTYD, I’m gonna cry.
I seriously can’t believe this is finally happening, I froze during the direct when this trailer came up. I never got to finish this game back when it was out on the gamecube and been wishing for it to come back since the Wii U. Super happy is finally coming.
The environments look more Papery, but not too overboard. So yes it's still very faithful. The first 2 Paper Mario didn't really imply they literally live in a Paper World like the later games did, the dialogue reflected that, it was more of a stylistic choice.
I find it an interesting (and good) sign that Nintendo had this as the big final announcement of the day… Maybe the fan feedback actually does reach them after all? Up until recently I heavily doubted that. It even goes back to the original art style! I’m actually amazed!
I like how both remakes of Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door have no extra subtitles that suggest that they're remakes, like it's their subtle way of saying, "This is the definitive version"
Also some of the animation changes to things are a lot faster and smoother. The staircase in Glitzville deployed much faster and more smoothly then the original did. It's really apparent in the side by side comparison vid GameXplain put out.

I am being spoiled with the remakes I can re play Mario RPG and now my favorite paper Mario Vivian such a icon that been forgotten just like Geno excited for these two remakes to come out
I hope Vivian gets her backstory preserved in the English script this time.
@@solidneptune6423 well I'm pretty sure Vivian would want to be called 'she' either way.
The "loading screen" before it shows Peach is MUCH faster and doesn't linger on screen like how the original did! Assuming they just didn't speed that up for the trailer, Mario & Bowser's loading screens will probably be just as fast. 😎
So excited to play TTYD finally!
It really looks like whoever made the remake made it with love and I absolutely love it!
Something I noticed that in the original, Goombella was a sophomore archeology student, but now she’s a junior!
She was a junior in the original too
@@johnnyhickman3083 actually she was a 'student', don't know why they changed it to junior, don't they say student anymore today?
Fun fact the picture 2:36 might not have been in the original game but it does appear in super paper Mario
If Super Paper Mario is next to get a remake, I'm going to explode
Hope we get a true Paper Mario game after this becomes successful.
It would be cool if tgey had an option to change back to the original dialogue noises, cuz that sound is pretty nostalgic
You forgot to mention, on the bowser area in his castle.. Bowser's painting on the wall.. He has a mustache
I know a tattle check might seem insignificant but that's a quality of life improvement. If that's in the game I can only imagine what they've done to really flesh out this game.
I know it’s the slimmest of chances, but maybe if this sells real well they’ll go back to this kind of play style for the next paper Mario.
You must not forget about the Great Gonzales Jr. Mini-Yoshi. He had his dialogue sound in the trailer.
In the minority that thinks this remake.doesnt need to exist
But I appreciate the amount of love being put in..beyond surprising they made original characters when they're straight up not allowed to for sequels
you guys forgot to add that when the trailer showed the Mario Bros. residents the house was attached to a blue building like there was something behind it
you can see it when it shows Parakarry delivering mail
That's just the rest of the house where Mario and Luigi's bedroom is
3:36 read the captions 😳
I really hope this means nintendo is going to be more open to making new and original characters in the future.
Even up through origami king they did not want to make new npcs and instead just used generic toads, Goombas and bob ombs. Hopefully this means that we see more enemies with clothes in the future.
I mean Origami King DID have custom designs for Toads in the same vein of the first two games, such as Professor Toad and Captain T. Ode
I never got a chance to buy this game & im glad it's remastered & going to be released for the Switch.
fr, i own a gamecube cuz it has an insanely good game library but they’re all so expensive :( still worth it tho
@@crunchysalmons And more convenient, I own a gamecube too.
If this outsells the other Paper Mario, maybe Nintendo will go back to this classic battle system and partners again!
Would be fun to add a Luigi playable side quest like the bowser /peach ones
i hope we get a map of both paper mario ttyd and super mario rpg as a preorder bonus, i would preorder it like that
I don't know if I'd really call it a detail, but I noticed that the character designs here are actually pretty similar to the artwork for Sticker Star.
1:43 Probably for some funny slang terms that would sound like something Paper Bowser would say.
Jolene
I love the fun references in Mario's house.
If there's any new content, I hope it's the waffle kingdom stuff so we can finally get a Princess Eclair design, especially with that Mario/Nintendo Princesses rumor about
Seriously doubt it… Nintendo remakes are usually just that… which is a shame. I’ll just stick with my GC copy
@@V8chump to each their own, I don't need it playable, I just want an official design ya know
The Airhead/Lunkhead change is a localization thing. He says Lunkhead in the Japanese version, and with the logo and TEC color change, it looks like we're getting a remake based more on the Japanese version exclusively, which is great. The preservation of content, free of censors and pointless alterations is always a good thing.
Before watching: TEC is red now instead of blue. Maybe to make it closer to HAL?
What if they readded the cut partner cameos
2:18 love the 3 colors here 😊
Im always impressed with the details you can find. Well researched 👌
I hope we get the spinning move from the first game and a harder game mode like triple pain or something
#17: the buttons on the UI are color-coded to their colors in the Super Famicom and new Nintendo 3DS variants: A being red, Y being green, most likely B being yellow and X being blue as well.
And the Super NES controller buttons, not just Super Famicom (the japan version)
the paper mario intro coming back was neat to see!
I bet the airhead insult was changed to avoid any possible lawsuit with the candy of the same name.
I hope that Purple Toad is a gateway to replaying bosses!
Super Mario RPG remaster allows you to replay bosses I'm guessing similar features to this too and made battling even more fun and easier hopefully here too.
Fingers crossed this does so well, we see "Paper Luigi: The Marvelous Compass" a few years later.
I really hope they go out of their way to add new game modes or making the backtracking for certain quests less tedious
The amazing details you showed make me want to buy it, and I only play Paper Mario with partners.
I'm glad I didn't play The Origami King.
I KNEW LUNKHEAD was different! I'm gonna miss airhead. 😭
This is such a faithful looking remake... my hype is through the roof
The environments look more Papery, but not too overboard. So yes it's still very faithful. The first 2 Paper Mario didn't really imply they literally live in a Paper World like the later games did, the dialogue reflected that, it was more of a stylistic choice.
I find it an interesting (and good) sign that Nintendo had this as the big final announcement of the day…
Maybe the fan feedback actually does reach them after all? Up until recently I heavily doubted that.
It even goes back to the original art style! I’m actually amazed!
4:07 most likelyit be used in a chapter introduction
It's good to see the old Paper Mario intro since Paper Mario Origami.
I like how both remakes of Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door have no extra subtitles that suggest that they're remakes, like it's their subtle way of saying, "This is the definitive version"
Rather SMRPG's initial subtitle got cut entirely lol
(Probably due to do it not having seven stars anymore, but more)
Now remake the original 64
They already put that on switch online, but that would be nice
Cope harder maybe they make 99 game of it
(1:42) "...Why was this changed?"
Maybe the word 'airhead' offended someone? Lol, I dunno. XD
I can't wait for the scene where Mario looks at the ghosts diary
This is so freaking exciting, I still can't believe this is real
Also some of the animation changes to things are a lot faster and smoother. The staircase in Glitzville deployed much faster and more smoothly then the original did. It's really apparent in the side by side comparison vid GameXplain put out.
Nintendo adding MORE unique Toads is the most shocking thing I've heard all year.
