Honestly tearing up towards the end. It's one thing to read that we should accept ourselves and that we aren't wrong for being the way we are, but to hear it and know they're being sincere is so great

    I've always loved this poem.
"Do not bury your demons on the dark side of the moon"
"Do not align yourself with someone else's expectations"
"Hold on. because I've seen people I love stave themselves out of the sky."
"We hear you. Loud and clear."
Really inspiring. Kevin and Sierra always make great poems.

      Processes Of Becoming
Oh my, I’m so happy for making your day 😁
I didn’t expect you to answer, especially not this fast.
You really made my day too.
It’s wonderful that you have friends to reach out to now.
Thank you for asking, yes, I have a group of friends too. I’ve met my best friend in kindergarten, we’re still very close and he can tell by what I type how I feel. And I made a deal with another friend, I asked her to send me the link to „keep passing the open windows“ by queen when she knows that I feel down.
      So yeah, awesome friends.
I hope you and your friends have some good time and stay safe

I've already commented on this video but I just noticed something new. When they say 'you are not just anything' j think of something my drama teacher said - when I ask you about your character, never say they are just anything. They are not just a cashier. They are not just happy. They are a cashier, and they are happy. These things have to be important to them, because that's who they are. You should never put down any aspect of yourself because then you try to downplay that and when you do that you stop being yourself - something about that woman is so quotable, and although she has those deeper more meaningful quotes there's also 'I'm a busty crustacean' or 'when I see dead birds I think of Teagan' or 'you just need to get in touch with your ass' so idk

This was so amazing! I've been told that I don't know myself, and should wait to label my sexuality until I'm older (I'm 15, btw), because apparently it's straight until absolutely proven otherwise in this society. This poem really made me feel better about myself; I was in shivers the whole time. It was really the lasts lines that I needed to hear, though- "We hear you. Loud and clear". That really hit me hard.

I wish I'd heard this when I was told I was just going "through a phase" when in actuality I was learning I was a lesbian and it was something I wanted to rejoice about b/c I finally understood myself but instead found myself defending myself from everyone. Luckily I have a happy ending, those that doubted eventually realized this was not "a phase" and accepted me.
    Beautiful amazing poem. Thank you.

    PHASES
by Kevin Kantor & Sienna Burnett
Both: I just got a Tumblr.
    Phia: I don’t understand Tumblr.
Sun: I don’t know what a note is. Dont like the feeling of being followed
    Both: by strangers.
Phia: Why do they call them followers?
Sun: Instead of friends? I have 81 followers
    Both: Mostly strangers
Phia: and they send me messages that say
Sun: Honey, you dont look like a feminist.
    Both: I didn’t respond.
Phia: Your septum piercing is sexy.
    Both: I didn’t respond.
Sun: My grandmother who’s been raising me since I was a kid. Fallon Im gay. She says that Im just going through a phase. Its really bothering me, I dont know what to do about it. P.S. I love your poems.
Both: Phase, known as a distinct period in the process of change of development.
Sun: I am seven years old and leaving a play date from Samantha’s house. I give her a kiss on the cheek and both our mothers swoon. I am seven years old and leaving a play date from Michael’s house. I give him a kiss on the cheek and his mother says
Both: “Now thats enough up.” Phase, verb, to introduce in gradual stages.
Phia: I am 22 years old, dating a woman for the first time wondering where I had been before this, wondering why it took me so long to see it. Her name is
Both: phase, verb, to remove in casual stages.
Sun: I spent most of high school dating a painter. A hopeful romantic who always wanted to exchange poems for portraits. Im afraid if I write him one now, it will sound too much like the suicide note he didnt leave signed.
Both: Phase, verb, the process of waxing and waning.
Phia: The moon takes 29 days to orbit around the Earth, appearing to us only its fractions of its full self.
Both: Phase, verb, illuminating the darkness.
Sun: How could we ever exist outside of a phase,
Both: if being human he’s constantly trying to find the light.
    Sun: To that boy
    Both: our reply
Phia: when people tell you your love is just a phase
Sun: tell them you dont like the word just.
Both: You are not just anything.
Phia: Do not bury your demons on the Dark Side of the Moon
Both: instead, phase hate out of your sky. When they treat your love like an eclipse,
Sun: like its meant, that you are meant to leave it in a shadow,
Phia: like it deserves to be swallowed in darkness because it burns too bright to look at.
    Both: Do not
    Phia: let them.
Sun: Do not align yourself with someone else’s axis of expectation.
Phia: Do not fight your own Pole.
Both: Trust in your own gravity. We are closer to the stars and they will ever be.
Sun: And if anyone ever tries to tell you that you love wrong,
Phia: And if anyone waits for you to backwards become yourself,
Both: tell them. Tell them that you ate sorry that they’d rather live in darkness and that lurks lock your light. Learn to love your flicker flasher radiation. Learn to love your full moon.
Phia: And even on the days when you hang just a sliver in the sky,
Sun: but it feels like you are holding on for dear life to this rock, but you are in a death grip tangle with the Sun
Both: Hold on. Because I’ve seen people I love starve themselves out of the sky.
    Phia: Her name is Sarah
    Sun: Signed Andrew
Phia: My starry-eyed girl and her constellation kisses
Sun: My man on the moon in his ghostly glow.
Both: I still don’t understand Tumblr. But I consider us friends. Thank you for sending us your secret satellite. We promised it did not get lost in space. Yes, we hear you. Loud and clear.

This made me cry. This poem means so much to me. Ever since I came out to my parents they have told me "you're confused. Your friends are just influencing you. You're too young to understand" and I have doubted myself many times wondering if they were right. But this poem was sent to me by a friend and it has made me cry. These people are amazing and I want to thank them for helping me believe in myself.

I don't really know why but at the end of this I cried and when I watched it again I still cried. Maybe because this reminds me of when I dated a girl and her parents didn't approve. Or maybe because I felt like for the first time the poet was talking to me directly.

    tl;dr I'm emotional and I need to rant/vent.
Ya know, I always come back to this poem when I feel unwanted thoughts and emotions catching up to me and low self esteem comes uninvited to have a nice chat. This poem is so versatile to so many things. Outside of the topics it covers, the theme of the poem speaks to me personally in terms of how I perceive the world--that I am not crazy for feeling and thinking the way I do, that my SOS' and cries for help do not deserve to fall onto deaf ears or be brushed off, that I'm allowed to seek attention and feel bad and discover and question and rediscover who I am or who I'm not. And that whether struggles be situational or conditional or medical or chronic, they all deserve validity. Even if it's "just a phase," like they said, it is not just anything and just because it's a "phase"--implying that it may be temporary or it will pass--doesn't mean it gets to be trivialized. It means that as much as we are allowed to feel pain and suffering, we are allowed to feel happiness, relief, and the want and need to get better. I remember crying the first time I listened to this and feeling listened to, comforted, whole and absorbing the raw emotions this poem expresses. I never expected a poem could make me feel so...not alone. Even if I sound or seem to be over dramatic to whatever I'm going through, they remind me that I am absolutely allowed to feel the way I do because there's a reason for it as there is a reason for most of everything. And that's okay. What's most important is recognizing that I can feel this way, that I am this way due to something ingrained in me, of which can be worked on to alter or change or improve in whatever way is possible.
I loved the way the tone progressed throughout the poem, almost simulating the journey of struggle, confusion, defeat, despair, and/or desperation that can happen within seconds or stretch into years or lapse into repetitive moments or episodes. I speak of myself in a roundabout way because I'm not comfortable with expressing my self directly, but that in and of itself is also okay. I don't need to change immediately. I don't need to trivialize or suppress how I feel, how I express myself, and who I am or am not. I don't have to know everything all the time. It's a so called "phase," and I am allowed to experience it without judgement but with the open-mindedness I'm allowed to seek through the methods of comfort I'm allowed to get. And when I near the end of this phase, I'm allowed to cling on and grab on to hope, just like the way this poems ends with a promise of reassurance. Thank you for making this poem. I'm eternally grateful for the existence of your words and just how much they mean to me, especially whenever I need them the most, when I'm down and can feel myself spiraling out of control. This poem is always here to ground me and assure me that everything is gonna be alright. That though my emotions and my thoughts may be sinking me, I'm allowed to know they exist. So that I'm not blindly fighting off what I can't see and can turn around to face what's holding me down and pulling me back.

hey, being gay is awesome. and the people who think it isn't are homophobic and that is not awesome. it isn't always easy to be proud of who you are especially when surrounded by those telling you not to be but you will make it and be happy and out and comfortable enough to correct people casually

    • @bobenagena5388
      @bobenagena5388 9 лет назад

Because i go by Bisexual which only applies to male and female. I would go by Pansexual but i've already came out as bi.

+The_Girliest_Banana That genre actually does exist because slam poetry is different than spoken word. Slam poetry is a type of competition where people read their poems without props, costumes, or music. Spoken word is poetry intended for onstage performance, rather than exclusively designed for the page.

    • @floraldanni8026
      @floraldanni8026 9 лет назад +2

I do now know that the genre is spoken word and the competition is slam
