His use of imagery is absolutely wonderful. The phrase "sheets of skin" really encapsulates how thin one thinks the skin is in a moment of panic. This is probably one of my favourite pieces of his thus far.
That last line got me, I just love how the perspective of another person can make you start rethinking your own. Like as far as panic attacks go it's easy to dilute everything else and focus on the "panic" side of it all, but he instead concluded this poem in glorifying it, not as a crushing anxiety but like a courageous fighter that refuses to give in. Disconnected from my emotions but mentally checking off boxes;" Yep, I do that, Yep. Yep. Sorta. Yeah, etc.". Then he said that last line... Fuk me! You mean the agony isn't from the terror of dying from demons with meathooks in my soul, but from the desperation to LIVE🌞?! I BURST into tears. And instead of feeling frustrated or hopeless, I was overwhelmed with compassionate and love for Myself. Where did that come from? It will help if you have a chronic condition, severe depression, an anxiety disorder, asthma, this is ideal but may not be possible for everyone. Your body will instinctively will revert to its most primal state, fearing for your life. Your sympathetic nervous system will activate its fight or flight response in the face of this perceived danger, its decision between chipotle and Chinese food. The body can only panic for a maximum of about twenty minutes. Follow these instructions closely to make the most of this tine. Your breathing is the only part you can control, do not, this will drastically shorten the attack, focus on the construction of your rib cage, on your drum major heart control, conducting this frantic march. Mistake this for a heart attack or a stroke, if successful, you may lose control of your extremities. This is the most I've ever connected to a poem on this channel. I was on medication for my panic attacks because they were so bad I would even pass out because I hyperventilated that much. I never thought I'd find something that truly puts into words what it feels like to have a panic attack.

I love humour he used when advising to do all the "wrong" things as to not cut the panic attack short As someone who suffers from chronic anxiety this poem is not only accurate but it's comforting. I guess it's nice to know that you're not alone and that other people feel the way you do

I watch this everytime I have a depressive episode and it kinda helps. It helps to know that my body is trying to protect me although the fight or flight instinct does me more harm than good.

Just to clear things up in the comments, an anxiety attack is triggered through some sort of event or something along those lines where as a panic attack can happen at any moment without a trigger. But those with anxiety tend to have panic attacks at some point in their life. The lines between an anxiety attack and a panic attack can be blurred though depending on the situation. I realized at his last word that I was pretty much holding my breath. I have panic attacks far to often over things like deciding what to eat for dinner and no matter how many times myself or someone else tells me it's fine, it's not a big deal, or get over it, for some reason..I can't.
I'm not sure why he thinks the body can only panic for a maximum of 20 mins. When I first started having panic attacks they lasted hours on end becuase I didn't know how to control them at all I didn't even know what it was I thought it was a heart attack at first so every time I slightly calmed down it started again. Years later Iv learned about it and how to help not have one keeping my breathing under control and taking what I'm prescribed sometimes but even now the shortest panic attack Iv had was about 20 mins and I was super proud to shorten it so much. There's different levels on panic attacks I know mine was very severe anxiety but 20 mins is surely not a max.

I'm not talking about a general feeling of unease, I'm talking about multiple times per day, I'm getting anxiety attacks. I've been to the hospital because I couldn't breathe. I've been to the doctor multiple times about this, I've been diagnosed by two different doctors and prescribed medication for it. But I've never heard from anybody that panic attacks can only last a max of 20 minutes. The time I went to the hospital I was having an anxiety attack for 4 hours straight. So again, I'm just confused about the whole "Panic attacks can only last a maximum of 20 minutes" because for me, it's rare for a panic attack to be LESS than 20 minutes. Right now for instance, it's been just over an hour for my current panic attack.
One of the worst panic attacks I've ever had was in the living room of my old house. I don't even remember exactly what triggered it, but I remember well the feeling of my arms and legs going numb, of not being able to breathe, of thinking I was dying. My dad was confused and didn't say or do anything. And then my stepmom walked in and said "What the hell is wrong with her?" in a tone that made me think she was angry with me for panicking. That was before she got anxiety. She understands more now, but her's isn't as severe as mine. I've had severe generalized anxiety since I was a little kid. Anyway, point being, this is very accurate and had me in tears. ❤️
I have GAD but I don’t have panic so I’ve never felt like I was dying, just scared of being around people. My grandma gets panic attacks. She’s been to the hospital several times because of it. Luckily I only get anxiety attacks. Not that I’m lucky to have anxiety. It could be worse.
I saw this for the first time a few years ago when I had my first panic attack and went to the ER bc I genuinely thought I was having a heart attack. I always had anxiety crises but not panic.... Since then I did'nt had again until last week. And this time, IDKW but some parts of this were in my brain and I knew I wasn't gonna faint, or have a heart attack but its still really hard to convince yourself you're not dying. I kept remember that in this bit he said there was a limited amount of time that your body go through it, but I could'nt quite remember how long. This was the first time after years without having them, and now I'm having more than once a day. I'm waiting for my consult but it will take a while. Don't know how i'm gonna get through this for the next few weeks.

I also sometimes feel really warm or cold and sometimes feel sick. but I don't usually get the feeling like I'm going to die or impending doom just incredibly frightful and nervous and panicky. usually it goes away after a few hours or so. I'm not really sure if it's an anxiety attack or panic attacks. I don't have generalized anxiety disorder or panic disorder but I do have clinical depression and soical anxiety disorder. lately it seems to happen late at night when im trying to sleep, not sure why
***** anxiety attacks and panic attacks are the same thing. When I say I've been diagnosed with generalized anxiety, I mean I've been diagnosed with a generalized anxiety disorder. I'm not talking about a general feeling of unease, I'm talking about multiple times per day, I'm getting anxiety attacks. I've been to the hospital because I couldn't breathe. I've been to the doctor multiple times about this, I've been diagnosed by two different doctors and prescribed medication for it. But I've never heard from anybody that panic attacks can only last a max of 20 minutes. The time I went to the hospital I was having an anxiety attack for 4 hours straight.
So again, I'm just confused about the whole "Panic attacks can only last a maximum of 20 minutes" because for me, it's rare for a panic attack to be LESS than 20 minutes. Right now for instance, it's been just over an hour for my current panic attack.
Biological panic only lasts for so long. The emotional and physical after effects can continue for however long.
The biological part of a panic attack normally only lasts for about 20 minutes, but you could still feel shaky and panicky for a while after.

One of the worst panic attacks I've ever had was in the living room of my old house. I don't even remember exactly what triggered it, but I remember well the feeling of my arms and legs going numb, of not being able to breathe, of thinking I was dying. My dad was confused and didn't say or do anything. And then my stepmom walked in and said "What the hell is wrong with her?" in a tone that made me think she was angry with me for panicking. That was before she got anxiety. She understands more now, but her's isn't as severe as mine. I've had severe generalized anxiety since I was a little kid. Anyway, point being, this is very accurate and had me in tears. ❤️

I have GAD but I don’t have panic so I’ve never felt like I was dying, just scared of being around people. My grandma gets panic attacks. She’s been to the hospital several times because of it. Luckily I only get anxiety attacks. Not that I’m lucky to have anxiety. It could be worse.

I saw this for the first time a few years ago when I had my first panic attack and went to the ER bc I genuinely thought I was having a heart attack. I always had anxiety crises but not panic.... Since then I did'nt had again until last week. And this time, IDKW but some parts of this were in my brain and I knew I wasn't gonna faint, or have a heart attack but its still really hard to convince yourself you're not dying. I kept remember that in this bit he said there was a limited amount of time that your body go through it, but I could'nt quite remember how long.
This was the first time after years without having them, and now I'm having more than once a day. I'm waiting for my consult but it will take a while. Don't know how i'm gonna get through this for the next few weeks.
