Fuzzy pixelated graphics allow for much more imagination. And there's something about a CRT that just feels more real to me, like theres actually a little world in that clunky box. In many ways Half-Life will never look as good as it did on a CRT in 1998. Well, unless you play Half-Life on a CRT in 2022 :)

Mr.RadHaz, thank you for your efforts, you have single handedly kept me interested in things related to half-life, whether it be with your mod reviews or that fantastic album you uploaded recently. Your quality has grown so much from when I first found you at 500 subs, and im glad to see you still keeping at it during these difficult times on the platform. Im sure all of us dearly await your next upload :)
I really like these kinds of mods, mods that enhance a few aspects of the game without straying too far from the vanilla game. and Half-Life Enriched does a pretty good job on that. The creator (Hezus) is an experienced Source and Goldsrc modder and he's developing Enriched entirely on his own, gotta respect that.
MP5 looks too shiny and glossy though, I think it'd be good if it stayed as the original's grey and generally non-shiny looking MP5 except higher res and proportionally correct.
These kinds of mods are - by a landslide - my favorite ones. Dont get me wrong, new and creative concepts for hl in form of a mod are great, but the idea of rethinking very certain parts of the game and giving in a lot of thought is so mind blowing if you think about it! As always, thank you haz for this amazing video!
I really do adore the small updates, especially the ones that make the world feel more realistic. Like, how in Questionable Ethics when you open the door after the headcrab electrocution room there is a marine there and a security guard around the corner; because the marine should have killed the Barney in the original Half-Life.
Its a really nice mod, I love how it doesn't change the game too much. Though I am looking more into the release of the Half-Life: Extended demo which will have first five chapters iirc.
GoldSrc can support up to 512x512 Maximum WAD textures (some of de'dm'_dust2_2020 textures "HLDM/CS 1.6 map on GameBanana" are in 512x512). .TGA Detail textures (512x512 Maximum?) "r_detailtextures 1" feature added to GoldSrc since CS:CZ was released.
4:10 - I'm almost 100% sure this sewer was changed because of maps being merged together. In the original HL layouts of the sewer and maps above it were physically impossible to seamlessly connect with each other.
This looks pretty cool. I first played half life around 2016 because for some reason despite being a PC gamer as a kid and playing a lot of the classics, army men, cnc, the like I somehow missed Halo life completely. I still haven't played much of 2 but the first one was an interesting ride even though I first played it in 2016. It has a certain quality to it that I really liked.
Gosh yes this is the perfect mod for me my favorite styles of mod are ones that stay faithful to vanilla games but improve them without completely changing it into a different game. Thank you for making me aware of this mod!!
The diference i've noticed right away is the use of "detail textures" That's a feature seen on the Source Engine where you can place a higher resolution textures above other ones, but why place a higher resolution texture above a low resolution texture? Why wouldn't someone put right away a high resolution texture in first place instead of the second one only being high-res? Because you can repeat the second layer on as many textures you want, so you preserve the memory to run the game, instead of having 15 high-res textures loaded, you have 15 ok looking textures and only one high-res loaded above it all that makes all the other ones look better. Thats a GREAT trick, many games use it if you pay attention to, thats personally one of my favorite game graphic tricks ever... If you scale up the detail texture you can even cover up the repetition of the textures below it, you can notice it at the grass of gm_construct from Gmod
my favorite thing about half life mods (especially hl1) is when they make slight remasters like this, the original game was amazing but just straight up ugly with the repetitive models and blurry textures and seeing these kinds of slight remasters make me even happier than full standalone mods and expansions, this is exactly what i always wanted the original half life to be to the point where if i only had the energy (and a little bit more skill in modding than i currently do) id 100% make this myself, also amazing video my guy as always
I really love half life enriched and i played a lot i know everymap from memory every single pixel and i loved the little but heartwarming changes and as always good video
God i love the high quality textures, not too high but enough to feel refreshing! and it was the main problem for a friend so when this mod is done he'll finely be able to play it without having that issue (gives him a headache), thanks again hazard else i'd have no idea all those mods and secrets from the betas existed!
this seems like the perfect mod to play if you're coming back to Half Life after a while of not playing and want to experience it again how your brain remembers it, or if you just want to play with an updated look. Also, hearing your Half Life 2000 beta music in the background was quite nice.
"It's like playing on your memories of these maps" especially since memories of games as old as Half-Life always seem to make the game look better than it actually did back then
I'm currently saving up for a steam deck, and one of my first goals is to binge the entire half life series (excluding alyx because I'm too poor for VR lol), this would be a fun way to replay Half Life 1 again.
I really like the look of thinks in these, such as the glowing health station (it looks so cool). I personally am still mostly looking forward to Hard-Life, as it seems to be much more of a Half-Life reimagining in the goldsrc engine.
I like the new weapon models. they are more accurate to their real life counterparts and the mp5 and spas are no longer deformed.and the 357 actully looks good now.
Heck that's how I felt when I helped a couple Redux mods with upscaling textures and adding detailed textures. Updating sprites. Then modifying the materials file and adding new steps sounds according to textures used, so you're not running on tile....while on another material ;) . Those subtle visual and audio changes astronomically rejuvenates the GldSrc engine games/mods. Honestly if I knew how to do 3D art....I would love to make a mod on my own. The GldSrc maps can handle their fair share of 3D assets to complete the map geometry outside of using brushes. Alot of people sleep on the GldSrc engine, but it is still very capable to this day. Just hard as hell to find people who program and want to work with an old engine. Everyone has jumped to Unity, Unreal.....or flat out wants to get paid....instead of just doing it for fun, like the old days. Which shows....you go to MODDB....not nearly as popular as early 00's.
Pretty sure any engine, no matter how old, can handle high res textures. It just takes more memory. The beauty of texturing is it works in UV space not pixel space, meaning it’s mapping onto a percentage of the texture dimensions. You could replace a 128x128 texture with a 10x5000 texture and it’d still look correct, as long as the new textures roughly match up.
This reminds me of how the original deus ex had LoDs for the wall textures, and would load up higher quality ones when you got close to the walls I wonder if you could run this with gameplay mods like brutal hl or counter life
I tested it on Xash3D FWGS and it worked perfectly fine. No crashes, glitches or anything that makes it chore to "play through"... Get it... "Play through"... No... Okay...
I hope that there will one day be a mod that takes the redesigned weapons from other mods, and lets you choose which weapon uses what design. For instance, the Azure Sheep Glock, the C.A.G.E.D SMG, and the Signal Lost RPG.
Ah, nice. I love mods like these, it doesn’t do anything too drastic to change the game’s visuals, so for classic curmudgeons like me, I can get an OG half life fix that doesn’t look like the HD pack. No offense to the HD pack, but… … no thanks. Happy thanksgiving Rad ✌️
I thought the game already had 256x256 textures. This was already my standard size for map creation and making of sprays. Infact I threw 512x512 at it and it handled that just fine too. But with color pallet limitations in place.
anti mass spectrometor looks like the one you see at the start of half life 2, that version was very undrtialed, but here you can see a similar version in a little more detail
Its still on Alpha version 0.885 i think...but it says it can be played on anywhere...yet on Xash3D FWGS,Barney models starts to glitch like, first its black (IM NOT RACIST!!!!!!) then when he died he randomly turns into a normal white American...but still it's a really good mod for someone who wants to play Half-Life but HD but also have the same textures, storyline and still faithful to the game
Good mod by HezusNL (I believe so). And yes, the loading screen always make me feel it is a waste of time. So much time I went back to few older sector (had to) and the loading screen kinda get me. Though those little loading do allow my physical body a second of rest.
Personally I love the new weapon models, they look great and realistic, but I can understand why some people dislike them. There should be and option to turn them on or off in the options menu
I'm a sucker for subtle details and remasters.
This honestly looks like how I imagined the graphics back when I first played.
