This is what happens when a couple of guys watched carnikcon back in the day, realized they missed the channel, and then made their own channel that is heavily inspired but not a rip off.
When DSA were still putting guns together from imported parts kits they were awesome. Ever since they started their own domestic parts quality and reliability has been spotty. I was lucky to have an OG FN made FAL and that was a fantastic rifle. Also Falklands "the only place it saw combat" while karaoke singing about Africa should be triggering Larry Vickers right about now.
Reliability issues are to be expected when domestic manufacturing of a “uncommon“ firearm commences, it’ll probably be like the AK currently and take a few years (or decades) to get right provided political situations are nice to it
DSA bought all the original tooling and plans from FN. Probably what is more likely, is that DSA is making "top quality" FALs, but top quality FALs just aren't as good as what we have today. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
They were originally designed to hold 3 or 4 inches at 100 yards. Mine from DSA holds a lot better than that with Federal 147 gr. ammo. The only problem I had was the spring got weak after 7 yrs. and would not push the rounds out of the magazines.

Ah yes, The Falklands. One of one conflicts that the FAL was used in. The Falklands, in the southern reaches of a continent. The only continent where the FAL was famously used.
@@hawkmilitary10 Sorry, but the Argentinians (who were using the full auto version i e. The FAL) actually lost. Breaking my heart over here. The FAL is the gun I want to love but just can’t bring myself to buy one. This review may be the nail in the coffin for me
I’ve wanted one for a while because I have a thing for Cold War era firearms. But you’re absolutely right. Thinking maybe I should look harder into the G3 pattern clones like the PTR91.
@@DIYDad1 PTR91 user here. You have to get the "FR" model if you want a good rifle. The heavier barrel makes all the difference. If you don't, you'll be missing out on the roller lock's best characteristic - accuracy, and you'll wish you had an AR-10. Don't wish you had an AR-10, get the FR.
@@mitchwerbell4679 thanks for the advice. From what I’ve seen in videos the G3 pattern rifles somehow have greater recoil than the FAL pattern guns despite the roller lock action. I’m guessing because of the adjustable gas block. But I’ll keep your advice in mind. I would definitely want something more accurate than the FAL shown here in this video. After all, that’s sort of why I want 308 in the first place so I can have better accuracy and power delivered at longer ranges.
Don’t get a new one from dsa. Maybe 10 years ago I would say get a fal now don’t buy one. The ship has sailed. Look at more modern 308 platforms. Pof revaluation, scar, are really the only modern ones I would recommend. G3 kick harder and m14 s suck too. If you’re willing to pay then you could source a good fal with good mags that would preform like a military grade weapon.
@@DIYDad1 The real problem with the G3 platform is that it will maul .308 brass badly because of how harshly it ejects. If you don't reload, that doesn't matter and you can avoid the following problem - I run 7.62x51mm NATO through it because it has a thicker case and the brass can withstand the rough ejection by the rifle. But, because 762x51 is loaded at a lower pressure than 308 (which the PTR91 is built to run), you can get failures to feed & eject unless your recoil spring is sufficiently worn in. Again, because of the lower pressure in 7.62x51 Nato compared to .308, which the rifle is built to spec for. Recoil genuinely hasn't been an issue for me. It's mild for .308, and even less notable for 762x51 cartridges. Again - I have the FR, which is the bull barrel, and that has more heft. Probably plays a part. So far, I thoroughly enjoy my purchase. It was worth $1300. For a good AR-10, you'd have to spend $2000.
Don’t know about DSArms quality, but I had the great pleasure of hauling around the FN C1A1 for 8 years in the infantry …. well, ok it sucked during the bloody death runs. I was accurate on it at 500 m with iron sights and it was extremely reliable in mud, dirt, rain, snow and slush … all of which could happen in a single day in Canada!!
You wind the gas down until it has stopped and and go two clicks back. It is nice that you have the Aussie / British folding charging handle. It is definitely nicer than the original fixed one. I do remember the rear peep being small but not that small on the L1A1 SLR's I shot years ago. Better off with an inch pattern receiver as you can use both metric and inch pattern mags. Inch pattern are better as they have a much larger lug at the front but being an Aussie I'm a bit biased towards inch patter L1A1's. They served Australia and New Zealand well in Vietnam.

My railed cover on mine as held zero perfectly for about 6 months now but only about 500 rounds. Although mine shoots m80 and Winchester super Xs 180gr pretty well, just under 2 MOA. But shoots any 147gr ball ammo like PMCs very poorly
About the gas Ring. There's only ten settings. When you're just cranking it up like that, what you're actually doing is closing the cylinder vent, then opening all the way back up. Get DSA metal mags too, they actually fit, because the guy who runs DSarms changed the magwell spec.

The mag insertion issue is a common flaw with DSA guns. DSA has been known to put out receivers with quite poor quality control. Its pretty sad they can't do this rifle justice and make a reliable clone.
All my surplus FAL mags drop free just like AR-mags. It is true that you get a a coin toss seemingly on a good one depending on how many beers DSA had the day before production.
